As the class ended with Kaia, Aaron led me to a room. He opened the door and led me inside.
"You can sleep in here. I know it's a bit dirty but It's better than the clinic beds."
"Wait... this is your room?" I felt my face burn. I'd never been in another person's room that wasn't family.
"Yeah. Is that OK?"
"Yup! It's fine. Are you sleeping in here too?"
"No! Not unless you want me too.... which you definitely don't." We both laughed awkwardly. "I'll leave you to sleep... goodnight Renn." Aaron closed the door behind him as he left.
"Good....night."
I crawled into his bed awkwardly. The sheet were really messed up. I straightened the blankets then pulled them over me. I curled up and fell asleep quickly. I had a dream about a cave made of ice. A woman walked out of no where. Then I woke up to light piercing my eyes. I sat up with bad bed head. I ran my hands through and fixed it a little.
Kaia blinked through the door and started to dress me. She threw me into one of Aaron's mages robes. It started to tighten around me to fit tightly to my body perfectly. She pulled the hood over my head and pulled me out the door.
She dragged me into the room we were in yesterday. There were tables and racks full of weapons.
"Today you are learning how to match frequencies Renn. You'll be matching with Aaron after we explain and then show you. Like usual classes. So matching frequencies is pretty easy when you break it down. You both follow the same beat and conjoin magic and mana. Now, come on Aaron. Let's show him how it's done."
Kaia started to snap and Aaron nodded his head to the beat. They picked up the beat quickly. Aaron picked up a huge butchers blade. It looked like a butcher's knife but like nine times bigger. Kaia rubbed her hands to together. When she pulled her hands apart plumes of fire erupted from her palms. She ran her hands a long the blade. It started to glow red with heat. Aaron's foot slide across the ground and a stone statue appeared. It was a tall male figure. He spun around and sent the blade through the stone. It cut like paper and fell with a boom.
Kaia turned around and smiled, "we mixed our abilities to create an ever stronger ability. The abilities vary from pair to pair, or group to group. I can mix my own abilities together to make a strong move on my own, but I can't hold it for long. Some people can hold a connection with themselves for days. Now, you and Aaron will try it. He'll be putting in the magic sense.... well it doesn't matter. He will put in the magic and all you have to do is pick a weapon and swing it around. It's pretty easy once you get the hang of it."
I walked over to the table filled with weapons and picked up the one that looked the easiest. I turned around holding a large stick.
"A staff.... really?" I could feel Kaia's mental face palm.
"It's the only one I kind of know how to use."
"Well, Anyone can swing around stick, Renn! What can you make out of a staff Aaron?"
"I don't know. But, in his defense, I've never tried it. It might even be better than our tempered blade."
"Doubt it." Kaia crossed her arms and watched us.
Aaron started to snap. I closed my eyes and imagined what was happening. It felt like a movie. I could see everything that was happening. Aaron slid his hands through the air. The ground around him started to rise up. It was bent and contorted into odd shapes. His hands moved slowly then picked up speed. He sent the lumps of earth at the staff. It molded around it and made a weapon. I opened my eyes as Aaron stopped snapping.
"Nice. A halberd." Aaron chuckled before Kaia walked over obviously unimpressed.
"Try it out." Kaia was monotone and sarcastic at the same time. Maybe that was one of the magics they teach here.
I swung the halberd above my head. It looked like a spear and an axe had a baby and this thing was that love child. I swung it over my head. It was surprisingly light. The momentum took over. It got way to much and I sent the axe blade into the ground. The momentum didn't stop. It rather sent me over it. I closed my eyes expected to hit the ground but I didn't. When I opened my eyes I was higher than before. Kaia and Aaron looked surprised.
I looked down to see I was standing on the hilt of the halberd. The stone blade disappeared from the staff and I fell. I hit my head on the floor. My sight got fuzzy before Kaia pulled me to my feet rather aggressively.
"What affinity did Rein assign you?"
"What? What the hell is an affinity?"
"Kaia, calm down," Aaron ripped her off of me and stood in between us, "Renn, affinities are the types of magic we can use. I use mountain moved. Kaia used flaming furies. Rein uses frozen frenzy and liquidation. They all do different stuff. I control the earth and Kaia controls fire. Rein can control the weather and can condense water into ice and use that to her advantage. Now, what did she assign you?"
"She... called me... an infinity. Is that something?"
Kaia and Aaron looked at each other. Aaron picked me up and they both ran out of the room. I tensed up as I got confused. They ran all the way to Elder Finn's office.
"Finn? What the hell! Why didn't-"
Finn put up his hand in her face. "Firstly, Aaron set that boy down."
"It's fine. I'm used to being pick up... don't question me."
"OK. Never mind then. Now, Kaia I didn't tell you an infinity was found for a reason. I thought you learned that us Elders do everything for a reason. We are announcing his arrival tomorrow night. There is going to be a surprise ball." Finn knew everything Kaia was going to see. He then turned and looked me dead in my eyes, "Be ready, Renn. Try your hardest to learn everything you can about your magic before tomorrow."
"What...." I felt my heart sink as his words slithered from his mouth like a snake.
"Nothing. Just heed my warning. Now get out of my office dammit!"
Finn pushed us out wish a staff. Kaia and Aaron stared at me for a while just sitting outside the door.
"What did he mean by 'learn as much as you can before tomorrow'?"
"I really don't know... Kaia can I ask a favor?" My hands started to shake a bit.
"Yeah. Just ask."
"Can you teach me magic. Force it down my throat if you have to."
"Are you sure?"
"More than anything."
I felt tears welling in my eyes. I didn't know why but I was scared. It felt like i was about to see something or someone I don't want to.
