Kile grabs his face hoping desperately that he wasn’t blushing on the outside as much as he was on the inside. “Jared.” He pressed his lips together to keep from smiling. “It’s nice to meet you.”
Suddenly He felt dizzy before he could make it back to the chair he collapses onto the grassy ground. This wind blew but no voice carried. His body weakened, Kile found his mind drifting away. “Jared I think something is wrong.”b (Oh right. You already left. I forgot.) A tear dampens his lashes as his mind melted into the darkness.
Jared was going over his medical books when he came across a paper that was only in the first file. He had a slight case of hypertension during his first visit. (The first case.) He shot out the office heading straight to 301.
There was a medical emergency as he arrived. “What happened here?”
"He just came back from his round of testing. We found his heart rate elevated afterward We hook him back to the heart monitor." The nurse answered quickly.
"Bring a vial of Heparin. Quick." The other nurse left and quickly returned with the medication. He quickly applies the injection. "Come on Kile, you are not going to give up that easily are you? We are still getting to know each other. Come on buddy relax. I am here and we have a good staff too. Kile? Come on buddy."
(Kile? Kile? )
Kile found himself lying in the patio bed. A woman stood looking off toward the water.
(Kile? Kile honey, wake up. Your friend is waiting for you.)
“Mom?” He tried to sit up but fell back down.
(Don’t move yet just rest. You will gain strength with patience.)
“Mom, come closer so I can see you better.” (It’s been so long.)
(Now is not the time, Another day maybe.)
“Another day? What day?”
(Maybe, remember strength in patience.)
He closed his eyes allowing the wind to lull him back to sleep.
A warm Autumn night. It was a year ago. He decided to attend the opening night of a gallery In Los Angeles. When Kile was introduced to a guy named Fred Keats.
"Nice to meet you, Fred. Kile Steel, Just call me Kile."
“ Great meeting you Kile. Do you live around here?”
He smiles warmly into the laughing green eyes. "No, I don't. Should I."
" Well, the plus side is that we can meet more often."
"Sound as good a reason as any." We hit it off really fast. (Maybe too fast. Had I taken my time I could have prevented what happens later. )
Later they were inseparable. Staying at each other's place every night. Until he came home early one day to see him searching his apartment. "Fred, what are you doing?"
"Oh uh, I was looking for your pin code. I wanted to pay a late bill for you like before but the pin change."
"That's because I regularly change it since I use the account so often." He said as sat his bag of art supplies on the sofa.
“Not a problem just give me the pin and I will go take care of it.”
“That alright just hand it to me I’ll just pay it from my phone.”
“No need. I will do it for you. What the big deal. I’ve done it before.”
Kile signs. “Completely until you said that sentence just now.” He opens the door. “Fred I think it’s time you made an exit from my life.”
"Fine, who need you. I was happier before I met you. You think you're great. You are just a lucky discovery."
Every word was like a sharp dagger to his heart. He plastered a cold smile on his face. "Glad to hear it. Then this lucky discovery doesn't have to worry where you end up. Have a nice life. I'm sure it will be golden without my wings to fly on." He quietly closes the door as if the matter was of no importance. Leaving a shocked look on Fred's face. He walks over into the bedroom to see his Mother's jewelry box broken on the floor. Kile sunk to the ground beside it and quietly wept. "We are better off without him. Right, mom?"
The memory made him suddenly feel cold inside. It has been hard to trust anyone after that. How could have been so wrong about someone I thought I knew so well.
Jared was about to head home. It took a bit to calm down after that scare. He barely managed to focus on work. He had just passed the nurse station toward the elevator. (Just one more check then I can leave reassured.)
He walked into the room. (It feels so desolate and quiet. Now that it was getting late.) “Kile you get a good rest and I will see you in the morning. Don’t worry I told them to let me know if there is any problem. I promised to come right away.” Jared gently squeezed his hand. “You are not alone. You have me.”
As soft blanket appears over Kile in his little world shielding him from the biting wind. He breathed a soft sigh of relief as his dreams moved to happier thoughts. (Maybe one day we will finally meet Jared. Maybe...)
