Nélle couldn’t believe it. Kashi was without a magnus, but she had managed to sneak into this prestigious school. She wouldn’t have had minded if she was from an indigent family, and yet, this girl had dared to enter the school grounds with no abilities.
As a prefect, she couldn’t abide this. In vexation, Nélle tapped her toes, waiting for class to end. The elder wouldn’t be pleased to hear this, but Nélle’s job was to tell the truth. She hated those who lied.
Mrs. Osborne, her offense instructor, seemed to be aware of Nélle’s irate mood.
“Nélle,” she said, beckoning her,”What’s gotten into you? Is it perhaps the girl, Kashi?”
Nélle couldn’t lie.
“Yes, she has no power, but she comes and pretends like we’re all equals. It disgusts me... like how did someone with no abilities enter this school anyways? Did they cheat their way through the exam?” Nélle ranted on, bitterly.
Mrs. Osborne sighed.
“I wish I knew, too. Yesterday, I did overhear Doc and the elder talk about the girl, but their voices were too low. Only today did I hear that Kashi was powerless.”
That’s when Nélle’s brows furrowed in confusion.
“Why were they talking about her?”
“Heaven knows what they’re talking about. I don’t know. I’ll go see someone and ask if they know anything”
With that, the silhouette of Mrs. Osborne began to glow red, flicker, and in a second, she was gone.
To whom did she teleport to? Nélle wondered as she decided to distract herself by training. She, a healer, wasn’t accustomed to fighting, and felt no need for it. But the teachers thought otherwise.
Glaring at the stationary wooden dummy, Nélle prepared to land a kick. Leaping into the air, she whirled once and struck the dummy’s head. With a snap, the neck broke off, it’s head flying a few feet away. Her foot hurt, but with a quick chant, the pain was gone.
Nélle whistled in satisfaction. Despite being a support mage, she was in the top classes due to her exceptional fighting skills. Skills that she had acquired through years of training. Yet, Kashi had somehow manager her way to the best classes without any skill nor strenuous effort. It was unfair.
Envy and hatred clouded her mind as she swung her fist towards the dummy. It hit squarely in the chest, but didn’t topple over like it usually did. Damn, if only I could focus Nélle thought it’s that girl’s fault.
Wiping sweat off of her forehead, Nélle closed her eyes, clearing her mind. She took a deep breath, and with a concentrated blow, knocked down the dummy. That’s more like it.
Nélle was walking towards another dummy when she spotted Marco stomping into the training arena.
“M-Marco!” Nélle called out, waving at him as she flashed a bright smile.
Marco ignored her, like he always did, but something was off. Nélle could sense an aura of anger and fear in him.
“Alright,” Marco growled,”Who injured Kashi?”
Everyone went silent. No one wanted to be involved with the Darken Ice King especially when he was in a sour mood.
“Let me ask again,” he asked, glaring at Daevia, “Who hurt Kashi?”
Daevia‘s face was as pale as snow: Nélle knew that Daevia’s wind blades had cut Kashi. But what had she done wrong? She was stronger, not to mention superior, than Kashi and had every right to punish the girl for carelessly approaching a prefect.
“I-It wasn’t only me!” Daevia exclaimed, trembling,”Rolane and Daleson also hurt her!”
The two boys, who were usually talkative were now quiet. They both shot a nasty glare at Daevia. She’s gonna pay for that Nélle thought.
Marco beckoned the three to come. As they approached him rather cautiously, Marco froze the air, creating two ice-swords.
“Come,” he snarled.
The three, Daevia, Rolane, and Daleson, looked at each other in perplexity and confusion. With a nod, Daevia began to swirl around her arms, as the wind around her began to flow along with her movements. Rolane, as a red aura draped over his arms, smashed the ground. Debris were thrown into the air, and the wind picked them up, gathering them in front of Daleson. The rocks began to glow as a dark violet aura shrouded it.
Nélle watched helplessly as Daleson’s psychokinesis launched the chunks of rock at Marco. Followed by Daevia’s invisible blades, the aura around the debris began to glow brighter as Daleson furrowed his brows in utmost concentration. If this didn’t hit, they were screwed.
“Move!” Nélle yelled in concern before she could catch herself. Marco had been standing still the whole time, watching the trio. He seemed indifferent to the situation he was in, simply smiling menacingly.
When the rocks drew nearer, Marco began to run towards them, his swords crossed. Without a sound, he gracefully leaped into the air and swung his left hand, producing sharp ripples of frozen air. As the elements collided, the purple aura dissipated, and the rocks were sliced cleanly in half. Marco landed softly behind Rolane, the tip of his sword at the nape of his neck. During that time, Nélle had blinked twice.
“I g-give..” Rolane stammered, as the red aura that empowered his arms faded. Where Marco had been standing were the rocks, and they lay unmoving. Through fear, Marco had severed Daleson’s telekinesis.
“You’re this pathetic, and you guys beat Kashi senseless?” Marco sighed in disappointment,”
Marco pointed his sword at Daevia and Daleson.
“We lost,” they both said in union, dead serious. Nélle tutted in pity, knowing that Marco hated those who gave up so easily.
As the three slowly crept away, Marco slammed the ground with his fists, ice erupting from the ground as the three stood in confusion. In a matter of seconds, they were encircled by a ring of ice.
“The winner may go,” Marco said, as he turned around to leave,”This is a warning to all: do not mess with the strong.”
“Wait!” Nélle called after him,”They did nothing wrong! Kashi doesn’t have any powers!”
Marco glared back at her atrociously,”Don’t bullish*t me.”
