What was I thinking…? I thought trifling a hand through my hair as I stepped into my apartment after getting done with classes that day, I was rude to my employer… I really don’t want to go searching for a job again, but… It was time for me to be getting to bed, but would I even be able to sleep with all the thinking I was doing.” I collapsed to the bed snuggling up to the pillows with a sigh. Why did Onyx have to throw me for a loop like that? I could’ve acted as I normally did had he not brought it up again.
“I’m so confused…” I muttered slipping my arms around one of the pillows, “What am I supposed to do now?”
. . .
“Oi!” I complained that evening walking into onyx’s room, “You have work to do, Idiot!” The vampire only groaned flicking his eyes at me unhappily, “What’re you giving me that look for?” I crossed my arms before striding over to his bedside, “Just get up, I already have some blood and coffee set out for you, so get to it.”
I would normally chat with my employer over coffee before starting on the chores, but after the last few days, I wasn’t sure I could even look at the vampire’s face. It was no matter anyway if I could finish up early, then I would have time to start on homework. Though being that the author was a fairly neat person most of my tasks revolved around getting him to do his work and preparing his meals.
“Starburst!” Onyx came up behind me as I worked on cleaning up his mug from the coffee that evening. I gulped loudly nearing letting the glass mug slip from my finger as I looked at the vampire anxiously from over my shoulder, “We need to talk.” He said sternly as he slipped his hands into the pockets of his robe.
“What is it sir…?” I set the clean mug in the drying rack before patting off my hands on a dishtowel avoiding his hazel hues the whole way, “Is there something in specific that you want me to prepare for you?”
He sighed leaning against the far wall before flushing a dramatic hand through his pastel locks, “What’re you being so serious for all of a sudden? You’re not in trouble with me or anything, okay? I told you before that you can call me Onyx.”
“Right…” I massaged my forearm as I reluctantly slipped closer to the boy, “I just don’t know… How am I…?”
“I understand.” Onyx bit lightly at his lip as he lowered his face to the floor fiddling absent-mindedly with something in his pocket, “I’ve been really inconsiderate to you recently.” He pulled his hands from his pockets before tightly wrapping his arms around himself, “I’ll take it back.”
“Huh?” I hummed keeping my hand loose on my forearm as my rose from the floor and came to rest around the level of his neck, “What are you referring to?”
“I can tell all it’s done is trouble you.” He shook his head tightening the grip around himself, “You need time to think about this, right? I won’t say ‘I love you’ again for a while… If ever. Just don’t avoid me anymore, okay? I won’t get anything done if you don’t keep me focused. I know I’m useless, but I’ll pay you extra if I have to.”
My eyes finally found their way to his face. A rather pathetic face really. All strained with worry and eyes that still couldn’t reach mine, “And here, I thought it was my job to worry about you…” I started to laugh almost uncontrollably as I placed a hand on my midsection and rubbed one of my eyes, “I’m not going anywhere unless you want me to leave.” I smiled as Onyx really looked at me for the first time that day, “Onyx, you’re not useless. You just need something to fuel your inspiration. I’m happy that even if it’s only for the time being that I can be the thing that inspires you to keep going.” I loosened one of the arms around him sliding my hand to one of his and squeezed it just enough, “I won’t avoid you anymore if it makes you this upset, and I’ll take everything you’ve told me into consideration before I properly make comment on it.”
“Star…” Onyx whimpered almost going teary-eyed as he started to shake mildly, “I’ll never get rid of you…” His shaking increased as I brought my arms around him giving him a comforting embrace, “You’re the best thing that’s ever happened to me…”
“Don’t give me so much credit.” I pulled away with a smile as Onyx’s expression brightened, “Now then…” My face flickered to a more ominous one, “What was that about not getting anything done today…?”
“Well, you see…”
“Get back in that office before I skin you…” I flashed my claws at the pink-haired boy as he slowly paced away sweating, “Your moody editor will get on me for you not having your chapters done in time!”
“Yes sir…!”
. . .
He didn’t actually take anything back then right…? He's still saying that he’s infatuated with me of all people…? What’s wrong with that vampire?!?
