Julie ran past the Halloween decorations lining the streets as she raced to school. She jumped up the steps to the school building and pulled open the door. Darting inside, Julie headed to her locker. As she approached, she tripped as a foot was kicked out in front of her.

“Ouch!”

“Watch it, dork.” The boy who had tripped her, Briggs Meyer, mocked her.

“Yeah, go find some friends.” Briggs’ friend and fellow bully, Clay Johnson, joined in.

“Leave me alone.” Julie pushed past them and put her books in her locker.
