Tiredly, Nakatani let his body fall on his cushioned chair, now finally able to get some rest after having sorted out everything it was his duty to whenever national-level threats were to happen anywhere within Japanese territory. Conversations between the military and the government were never the most pleasant of chats but having to abridge the whole situation to not reveal the presence of the seven super soldiers in the base just yet had been pure exhaustion.
The existence of ‘The Union’ still wasn’t known to the Japanese government and, as far as it concerned Nakatani, it could very well remain like that forever. Human weapons were being produced inside of Japanese territory - if the Emperor or the Prime Minister were to become aware of such… it would be disastrous.
As a general, he knew that he was forced to make tough choices every now and then. However, he wouldn’t sell his men more than he had already been forced to.
“Haa…” sighed Nakatani, allowing his body to slide down the chair just the slightest as he motioned his hand towards his desk to grab a glass of iced diluted whiskey. As he did so, the reflex of a shadow briefly hit the translucent glass, forcing Nakatani to sit straight on his chair once again. “Good heavens, is this something that I will have to get used to?”
“…”
“Heh,” dryly snorted Nakatani, sitting back on the chair again. He took a quick sip to the cold alcoholic beverage. “When I decided to go forward with the mission to take down that lab, I confess that I wasn’t fully aware of what might have been kept there. However, I would have never thought that I would get much more out of it than I had bargained for. Much like I had never thought that Mitsu, the informant that got me most of the details of the lab, was one of you. Your ability to pull the strings is praiseworthy, I’ll give you that. However, I just want to make something clear right now.”
Nakatani motioned one of his hands forward and opened one of the small drawers present on his desk, taking from there a small object.
“I don’t want my men to die, be at the hands of any enemy soldiers, be at your hands,” sternly said Nakatani, strongly slamming the object on top of his desk’s surface. “Whatever it was that I was forced to do in the past, I want to make it up to them by allowing all of them to live long and healthy lives. Whether they may be humans or not 100% humans anymore.”
“That has always been within my plans.”
Slowly, Nakatani removed his hand from on top of the small object. A small, pale hand gently picked up the old, rusty key and withdrew it from the table’s surface.
“Liar,” snorted Nakatani, downing a few more swings of the cold alcoholic beverage. “One more thing before you leave. Can I finally have your human name?”
“I shall try to see if Shuuai-kun has a solution for that matter.”
