Castilla Chapter 4 - Freedom

Castilla Chapter 4 - Freedom

Oct 26, 2019

One of you?" Isabella asked, confused. "I don't understand..."

"Experiments" Eli clarified

"You all escaped from the S.H.G.S...?"

"It's more than just us three. They're excited to meet you two"

Isabella swallowed the lump that had formed in her throat. More. More people like herself and Felipe. More people whose lives the S.H.G.S had ruined. She wasn't sure if she should be relieved or angry. Her brother was less moved.

"How did you know where to find us?" he demanded

Eli laughed "It's a secret"

"Seems like everything is," Felipe said in a huff.

"I'll explain once we get home. Any problems, Gio?"

Eli turned back to Gio, who was piloting the ship masterfully. There was an awkward moment before Gio replied.

"We'll be over the wall in a moment. I'm sure that it'll set off an alarm."

Eli's brow furrowed "Can't you disable it?"

"I could, but it would take me some time, and I thought you wanted to get out quickly."

"I would," Eli said impatiently "But I would rather not let the whole city know we're leaving"

Gio gave a long-suffering sigh "You should have told me that before."

"I figured it would be common sense."

Their squabble continued as the ship advanced over the towering walls. Everyone held their breath as the hover ship flew over, expecting the cities alarm system to blare and blow their cover. Luckily, they passed without incident. A sigh of relief passed through the cabin. Eli turned and smiled at the siblings.

"You two should get some rest," he said, "It's going to be a while before we reach home."

He wasn't lying. Felipe tried to keep track of the time the spent cooped up in the ship's bridge, but it felt like an eternity. Eli tried to keep up the conversation, but after a night of running around the city, no one was in the mood to talk. After hours of waiting, Lillian spoke.

"We're here"

Below them was a seemingly endless sea of trees, each shaded with a different hue of bright green. Gio navigated the ship into a large clearing. Once the ship was on the ground, everyone filed out, happy to be free of the floating prison. Felipe took this as a chance to look around. Before him was a small, run-down wooden cabin, and beside it an equally run-down shed. All around the clearing wildflowers grew in patches, and the air was thick with their aroma. Insects flew lazily all around them. It was a stark contrast to the lifeless Capitol City. Felipe yawned. He couldn't remember the last time he slept. Yesterday? Two days ago? All he knew for sure was that he was exhausted. Just as he was sure he was about to collapse, a girl emerged from the cabin. Eli practically ran to greet her.

"Allison! Is everything ready?"

The girl spoke, and her voice was soft and gentle, Felipe could barely hear from a few feet away.

"Yes, I prepared everything while you three were gone."

"Perfect!" said Eli, practically screaming in comparison. "Let's go inside, everyone."

Inside of the cabin was shabby but clean. Allison led the boys into a small room where mats had been laid onto the floor with pillows and blankets to form a makeshift bed. Felipe could see that one of the mats was occupied by a sleeping figure.

"This is the boy's room," Allison said to Felipe "And the girl's room is this way" she gestured for Isabella and Lillian to follow, and they trailed out of the room behind her. Eli and Gio wasted no time flopping into their sheets, and Felipe shuffled over to the remaining mat. It wasn't the most comfortable form of sleeping arrangement, but after his night running around the city, it might as well have been a cloud.
