Redgar came from the union of two different and yet very long lines of merchants. You know the type. His parents were merchants, and his grandparents were merchants, and their parents were merchants, and so on. Unfortunately, Redgar wasn't the pride and joy of his parents, for there was a significant difference between Redger and his parents. They were in it for the money, Redger, on the other hand, was not.
I think it may have been how he was raised. He never had to scrounge to survive. Everything had always been handed to him on a silver platter. I believe that is the phase you humans use. When it came to Regar, I think he had no concept of how expensive life was. Everything had been paid for by his parents, and they had hoped that he would save the coin he earned and strike out on his own. They even planned for him to expand their 'goods based' empire.
Redgar, much to their disappointment, had other goals for his life. Seeing as he lived off of his parent's fortune, he spent any money he earned in two ways. The first drink and food, the second and the vast majority of the coin he made went straight to the poor. Of course, his definition of 'poor' may not have been to most accurate. I wonder what your kind would call him. A noble soul, perhaps? A clueless clown? I will let you, my Reader, be the judge of that. Maybe you will be wise enough to bring some clarity.
