The start of Senior year of high school is when I wanted to know what I wanted in life. What I mean by that is by focusing on myself and making this high school year worth remembering. I was focused more on my life than education during this time. I shouldn’t have done that but the main reason why I did that is because I could’ve graduated the upcoming winter. I chose not to graduate early because I wanted to see my all my friends a little bit longer and I felt I needed to accomplish the whole four years of high school. I honestly wouldn’t know what I would do if I graduated school early. Two months within the school year, came the first school dance which was homecoming. Comparing this year’s homecoming and my sophomore’s homecoming is the total opposite. This time I was the outgoing partying guy. I went with my friends again but some of them didn’t make it. I remember one part of the dance is when I told my friends to throw me up in the air and carry me around on their shoulders. I don’t know why but I was having a blast and decided to tell them to do it! Throughout the school year, everyone basically knew who I was. I was that one Asian kid that was friends with everyone and my jock friends always made fun of me. I didn’t care because I wanted to be friends with everyone! It doesn’t hurt to spread positivity to all different kinds of people. Later into the year, it was about two months left of the year and there’s this one last dance of my high school career and it was prom. I remember I didn’t go Junior year because I didn’t know who to go with. The weird thing that happened that year was that one of my teachers gave me enough money for a ticket.. I’ll still remember you Mr. Walls. I never thought of going with someone to prom just being “friends.” If there’s something huge like this, I want it to be serious. It was too late to find someone who I wanted to be serious with so I gave the money back to the teacher. It was on my end who I wanted to be serious with someone or not because I didn’t think there was enough time to get set up for a prom date. Anyways, I found myself in the same situation as last year but something in my head was bothered me. My mind was telling me “it’s the last dance of your high school years, who do you want to spend prom with, even if it doesn’t go right?” The first person I thought was the girl who laughed at me the start of my sophomore year. The reason why it wasn’t a hard choice at all is because she usually pops up and disappears occasionally and I always thought there’s a reason behind everything. So then, I proceeded with finding a way to ask Sophia to prom. I didn’t want to be a “common” guy and write on a board with a message saying “blah blah, would you go to prom with me.” I wanted it to be in a special and spicing up the message game. It took me two days to think about what to do and so I asked my friend Andrea what hours does Sophia work. Only reason why I asked Andrea is because Sophia worked with several of our friends and Andrea usually responds fastest. Andrea ended up telling me Sophia’s friday work schedule so I agreed to myself with a plan to ask her during that evening. When that time came, one of my guy friends wanted to come with to see what would happen so I told him “okay, come and take a picture of her reaction.” Before I went to her work, I needed to go to a few stores to pick up some materials. One was washable markers, the second was a bundle of flowers, and lastly, silly string. When I got to her work, I uncapped the three silly string cans that I had and sprayed her whole car with it. I was a little scared because I’m literally doing it in the public and I glanced inside the windows of her job and one of the workers seen me. I didn’t know that worker’s name but she pointed at Sophia’s car and most likely told her “someone is vandalizing your car.” I didn’t know what to do so I ran back into my car with my friend and waited until that whole situation settled down. Two minutes later, four workers came out with a questionable face and Sophia’s face was all shocked. Her face expression was completely point blank. I could tell from a distance that her night is ruined, there’s nothing that can fix it. My friend wasn’t laughing as much as me. I was nearly laughing the whole time because now I know how it felt like when Sophia was laughing at me in math class. When Sophia and all the workers went in back inside, I had to get the job done so I ran out my car and wrote the message in pink marker “would you go to prom with me? Navs.” I was basically done with my way of asking her so I’ve waited until she got off work which was not that long. When Sophia came out of her work, she stared at her car every step of the way. I waited until she seen the message on her car and then I came out my car with the bundle of flowers behind my back and I asked her “would you go to prom with me?” She had both of her hands on her waist, one leg straight, the other leg slightly pointed to the side with a smirk on her face… and she said yes. Right before the main event at prom, both of us went in a group again which was Andrea’s group. There was a little more than a dozen of us in the group. We all took pictures at a park with a mini lake and it was beyond gorgeous! After we all spent around two hours taking pictures, that’s when the night began. Sophia and I took separate cars and I was the one who drove to the main event. Prom was the best dance I ever experienced. When we got there, I kept telling myself “is this really happening... holy cow.” As the night went on, a slow song came on and I had to get my ass off the chair, take her hand, and proceed to slow dance with her. Once we started to slow dance, it was all awkward at first but then I was asking random questions to keep it entertaining. My mind was all over the place. Thinking to myself “what should I do to make her my girlfriend, what am I supposed to say.” So, near the end of the song I asked, “hey, if I kissed you right now, would you be my girlfriend.” It took awhile for me to spit that out because I’ve never been in a situation like that before. Sophia didn’t answer but we had eye contact. So therefore, I went for the risky kill… then bam. We kissed for about twenty seconds and she finally answered saying yes. I must admit, we were both happy in the insides because the face says it all. After the song was over, we both walked to our group table and waited for everyone to get there. It took quite some time because our friends were taking pictures with half the people that was at the dance. By the time everyone came to the table, it seemed like everyone was happy except a few people. I could tell because my friend’s face didn’t seem like he had a fun time. Anyways, half of us left home and the other half went back to Andrea’s house for a movie night and it was just seven of us there. Andrea and her boyfriend on one couch, me and Sophia on the other couch, and the rest of the people on the ground watching the movie or on their phones. So then, we just cuddled the night away. This will be one of the best days of my high school years and a night to remember.
