Max placed a plate in front of me; it had an egg omelette made with bacon and cheese. “I contacted the arrogation demon I was talking about. He’ll be over today.”
“Demon? What? I don’t remember talking about a demon!” His words had confused me, and I was a little worried at the mention of a demon.
“Demons are spirits. They are not evil; it’s just part of their classification. I had talked about him the night before you lost your memory again. This demon was the friend I was talking about yesterday. He should be able to tell us why you can’t remember your past and may be able to tell us why you lost your memory again.”
“So he won’t hurt me?” I asked.
“No more than a flu shot would hurt you.”
“I don’t think I like the idea of that.” I complained to him.
“You’ll be fine. I promise.”
Remembering a decision I made last night, I looked at Max and asked, “Could we date?”
“Why are you asking that?” He looked at me funny.
“I don’t know. I just feel like it would be nice, and I think we might have been close to dating before I lost my memory again. In fact, I get the feeling we were dating before I lost my memory.” It was strange, but I found it hard to believe that the two of us were not dating previously.
“You don’t need to worry about that. Besides you don’t know me well anymore.”
“Oh okay.” I felt a little disappointed. It would have been nice to date him. He was a really sweet man.
We finished eating our breakfast and sat on the couch to watch more shows. Max wasn’t able to find anything about animals this time, so we watched a kids cartoon about a sponge on the bottom of the sea.
It was a stupidly, funny show. It was very different from the things we watched the day before. This show made no logical sense. None of the things that happened in the show was possible, but it was still entertaining to watch.
We were in the middle of a different show when someone knocked on the door. Max got up and opened the door. “Hey Baxter, thanks for coming.”
“It’s a pleasure to be here. It’s been a while since we’ve last talked.”
“Yeah. I’ve been avoiding the spirit realm lately because I’m on a case and don’t know the dangers that may present themselves.”
“That seems fair enough. You said you needed me to evaluate your patient?”
“Yes. When I first met him, he had lost his memory, and he recently lost it again. At first, I thought it might have been due to trauma, but that’s normally just a human issue, and he’s not human. I believe there might be something spiritual blocking it.”
“Alright. I’ll just jump on into him then. Is that him?” Baxter asked as he pointed at me.
“Yeah, that’s Felix. You might want to just hang out and let him get used to you before going inside of him. He’s a bit nervous about you. He also doesn’t really understand spirits anymore since he lost his memory.”
“That’s a shame, but I don’t mind hanging out. I might be able to discover something by just talking to him as well.”
“That’s true; I didn’t even think about that.”
Max came and sat down next to me, and Baxter took a seat in an armchair nearby. I was nervous, and I didn’t know what to say or do. I just sat there and twiddled my thumbs while the two of them continued to converse.
“Felix, has Max explained what I’m going to do?” Baxter asked me.
I looked at him, “No.”
“Would you like to know?”
“I don’t know.”
“Are you scared?” He asked me.
“You’re a demon.” I said to him.
He laughed after I said that, “So?”
“It makes you sound scary.”
“Well, I believe you’re a demon yourself according to Max.”
“What! I don’t want to be a demon!” I shouted.
“Why not?”
“They sound evil.”
This time both Max and Baxter laughed at me. Max stopped laughing first, “Demons are not evil. I already told you that it was just part of the name classification. It really has no meaning towards personality, but rather towards the abilities.
In the spirit world, you have angels, demons, and guardians. Angles have abilities that are good for constructing, creating, or fixing. Demons have talents that are good for deconstructing, analyzing, or comforting. Guardians have abilities that are good for soothing, communicating, and transporting.
“There’s a bit more to it, but since you lost your memory, I think Max did a great job simplifying it for you. Being a demon is nothing to worry about or be ashamed of.” Baxter added to Max’s explanation. “I’ll explain what I’m going to do to you. I’m basically going to leave my body and enter yours. It’s going to feel like a big pinch when I enter into your body.
Once, I'm in, I’m basically going to analyze what’s going on with your brain, and see if I can find what’s blocking your memories. Depending on what was done to you and who did it, I should be able to easily find it and identify who did it to you in the first place. Once I’m done investigating your head, I’ll simply leave your body and go back into mine. It will also feel like a pinch when I leave your body, but it’s nothing majorly painful.”
As he explained what he was going to do to me, I tried to wrap my head around what was going to happen to me. I was very nervous and understandably so. “How long will it take?” I asked, wanting to know how long he was going to be in my head.
Baxter looked at me and thought a little bit, “well, it really depends. I would like to tell you about five minutes, but it could take longer.”
“What determines the time?”
“How hard it is to find what I’m looking for. I could find it right away, or I might have to really search your memory.”
Talking about him going into my head made me nervous. “What all will you be able to get from being inside of me?”
“Anything in your memory as well as any blocks and aids.”
“Can you see what I think or feel?”
“I can.”
This embarrassed me since I had a lot of perverted thoughts of Max, and I really didn't want Max's friend to see them and tell Max of them. This notion did not sit well with me. Why would I want someone to enter my most private thoughts? “I don’t want you to go inside of me.” I announced as I got up off of the couch and went into mine and Max’s room.
I locked the door so that they could not get in and dramatically laid on the bed. I wasn’t supposed to remember my past anyway, so it was great that I decided not to let Baxter into my head. After a few minutes, someone knocked on the door.
“Go away! I’m not doing it!” I shouted at whoever was behind the door.
“Let me in.” I heard Max demand.
“No!”
“Hiding behind the door won’t keep Baxter from getting inside of you if he wanted to. His soul can jump through the door and into your body. Let me in so we can talk.”
My body shuddered. That was one creepy talent to have. “I want to be alone!”
Then, suddenly, Max was in the room with me! He wasn’t there, and then he was! He just popped up out of thin air. “What the hell!” I shouted at him and threw a pillow at him.
“Is it a pillow fight ya want?” He asked me.
“No. Go away!” I commanded as he threw the pillow back at me. “Hey, don’t do that.”
“Make me.” He challenged me.
Accepting the challenge and forgetting about my problem, I charged him with a pillow in hand. He dodged out of the way and picked me up. He lifted me over his head and semi-roughly threw me back onto the bed.
“So unfair!” I Exclaimed as I shoved a pillow into his face.
“How so?” He asked me, trying to sound innocent.
“You know how. How did you get in here anyway?”
He gave me a cocky grin and answered, “Very carefully.”
I hit him with the pillow again, “no, for real, how?”
“It’s pretty simple. Remember how I told you I can cross the spirit and human border as well as make other objects do the same thing?”
“Yeah, I do, but what does that have to do with anything?”
“It has something to do with everything. All I did was move my house and you strictly into the human realm. You were unable to see the change, but since I moved the house into the human realm, it no longer existed in the spirit realm. Then, I just took myself out of the human realm and walked a couple feet past my door.
After that, all I did was put myself and the house back into both realms. In fact, I can get Baxter in here by using the same method, but instead, I’m going to talk to you alone for a bit.”
“That’s confusing.”
“What? Having a conversation with you?”
“Smartass.”
“Earlier, you seemed interested in letting Baxter find out what’s blocking your memory and now you’re against it. What happened?”
“He can see my private thoughts. It’s an invasion of my privacy.”
Max laughed at me, “That’s what you’re worried about? You’re silly. He can view your thoughts, but that’s if he wanted to. As long as he isn’t actively looking for your thoughts, he won’t find them.”
I hit him with the pillow again, “It’s not silly! I don’t want him to know what I think about things.”
“That’s fair enough, but he isn't going to be looking for that. He’s going to be looking for things that could be blocking your memory and try to find someone else's aura in you.”
“Aura? What’s that?”
“It’s kind of like a residue that gets left behind when a spirit uses a power to make something permanent. Every spirit has their own aura, so it’s easy to identify who did something by looking at or feeling the aura that is left behind.”
“Spirit stuff is pretty cool.” I commented without giving it much thought.
“Are you ready to let Baxter in?” Max asked as he placed a hand on my shoulder.
“As long as he promises to stay out of my private thoughts.”
“I’m sure he can handle that, you worry wort.”
I slung the pillow at him one more time, but he reacted quickly and managed to steal the pillow away from me. He put the pillow back on the bed and picked me up bride style. He made a tsk noise as he walked towards the door. Then, the most amazing thing ever happened. The whole house disappeared. A tingle ran through my body as the house disappeared into thin air. Max took a few steps on the ground that was left behind and another tingle coursed through my body while the house made an appearance.
“Did we travel across the border?” I asked.
“Yes, I did the same thing I did to get into our room.” He replied back to me.
“It felt weird.”
“I never really noticed, but I also do it often.” Max and I reached the living room, and Max set me on the couch, “so now, Baxter is going to see if he can find what’s wrong with you.”
“Stay out of my thoughts.” I announced to Baxter as I made myself comfortable on the couch.
“I don't have a reason to search your thoughts; that would make my mission longer. Plus, it doesn’t benefit me to even bother with your thoughts.
“Just get in me already and get this over with.” As I said this Max busted into laughter to the point he had tears in his eyes. “What?” I asked, not understanding what was so funny.
“Nothing my innocent little sweetheart.” He answered me.
Baxter scoffed at us and gave me a command that made me realize my mistake, “Prepare to be penetrated, our little demon.”
I blushed once I caught onto what Max found funny, “Meanies.”
After my statement, Baxter looked at me and randomly announced, "I am Baxter Lockheart of the arrogation clan class demon." I felt a quick sharp pain all over my body. It most definitely did not feel like a small pinch. It was the same pain level, but at least a pinch wouldn’t have affected my whole body. After getting over the pain of Baxter entering my body, I glanced in the direction he was, expecting him to be gone, but he was still there.
