Isabella did not have such an easy time sleeping.
She was just as tired, but she was tormented by nightmares. Her memories flashed in her dreams, twisted and contorted by her subconscious to create a horrifying scene. Her brain recounted the experiments of the S.H.G.S, tens times more painful in dreams, she saw her brother, bruised and battered after trying to protect her. She recounted their night through the city, her terror papable, running from unseen agents and praying for someone, anyone, to help her. In the dream, she ran alone. Her brother already captured, she unable to save him. A hand reached out from the darkness to grab her. Before she could scream, she woke up.
"It's okay," A girl's voice said. Allison. "It's only a nightmare"
Bella turned away from her, embarrassed to be seen in a moment of weakness.
"Sorry you saw me like that"
Allison gave her a warm smile "It's okay. Why don't I help you get cleaned up?"
There was no mirror to check herself in, but Isabella knew she must look like a mess. Her hair was a nest of tangles after running around all night, and she couldn't remember the last time she showered or brushed her teeth. She took Allison's offer without hesitation.
"That'd be great"
"Perfect, I'll wake Gio and have him run you a bath. I don't think we're the same size, so you might have to borrow some of Lily's clothes until we can get you some..."
She left before Isabella could object. While she waited for her return, she tried to tame the birds' nest that was her hair. Her effort was futile. After a long struggle, Allison finally returned and led Bella to the bathroom.
"The water's a bit cold," Allison said "Gio always makes it cold in the morning. He doesn't like being woken up."
"He makes it?"
"Yeah. Like how you make fire? His mutation?"
Isabella recalled Eli's words from the night before:
"You're one of us"
Felipe woke up in a daze, hardly remembering their journey to the cabin-in-the-woods. He sat up, wondering where the hell he was, and how the hell he got there. The sun was too bright, and his body ached all over. He allowed himself a moment to recollect his thoughts.
It didn't help.
Who were all these people, anyway? What did they want? How did they find him and Bella?
Where was Bella?
Felipe jumped to his feet and practically ran to the door, smacking right into Eli.
Without missing a beat, Felipe asked: "Where's Bella?"
"She's getting washed up."
"Is she alright?"
"She's fine"
"Why are we here? Why are you helping us?"
Eli sighed. "You ask a lot of questions."
"Only because you don't answer any of them"
He smiled at that "I guess that's true"
Felipe glowered, unimpressed by his dazzling smile. "Stop avoiding my questions"
"I just want everyone to be there when we talk. So we can introduce ourselves properly"
Felipe pushed past him in the hall.
"Where are you going?"
"If you won't answer my questions, I'll just find someone who will."
Now it was Eli's turn to be impatient.
"Just hold on, would you? I'll call a meeting, and then we can talk."
Felipe sighed, tired of all the waiting, but he needed answers, and it would be easier to just play along (for now).
"Fine" Felipe said "You got a shower here? I smell like crap"
