Minotaurs are half human, half bull. Because of this, their destructive nature combined with their intelligence is terrifying. The bloodthirsty Minotaur charged straight at Kori.
Kori was low on mana and didn’t have the energy to do anything but keep running. One foot in front of the other. Kori was exhausted and was on the verge of collapsing.
But the Minotaur kept charging. A shadow loomed over the both of them, and Kori thought it was over. Then, CLANG! A loud noise like swords clashing sounded. Kori looked back and saw a large man the size of the Minotaur itself stand between Kori and the Beast with an even bigger metallic shield of what looked to be iron.
“Don’t worry lads! The guards are here!” The giant man said. His voice was rough and deep like an old man, but he stood strong and proud against the Minotaur. Strong hands helped Kori to his feet. It was the other guards. “Thank you…” They were the only words Kori could get out before he blacked out.
Kori awoke in an unfamiliar bed in an unfamiliar room. For some reason, he felt as if he was in tip top condition. He stood up with a grunt, only to face a maid. “Ah! You’ve awakened. In case you’re wondering, you’re in a room in the Evergreen Hospital. Please stay here while I go tell the captain of this.”
The maid left him immediately without waiting for a response. She had told him to stay put so he just laid back down on his bed. It was made of wood, but it seems the mattress, blankets, and pillow was made of Hellfire Moths’ silk and Mountain Sheep fleece. They say products made by these two class E Demon Beasts are noble class items.
“Hey you’re okay! Good. Cause you looked like road kill when I saw you last night.” A gigantic man walked into his room. He barely fit in the door frame. “My name is Fredrick. And I’m the captain of the guard here. Nice to meet ya!”
“I'm Kori. Thank you for saving me and Elizabeth. Speaking of, where is she?”
“Ya mean your lady friend? She’s in the room next door. She’s recovering nicely.”
“Thank the gods.” Kori sighed.
“Now then, as a guard I’m gonna have to ask ya some questions. That okay?”
“Yeah go ahead.”
“First, what are ya intentions here at Evergreen?”
“As a place to stay.”
“What were ya doing before?”
“We were fighting Sabertooth Murk Wolves and on our way here to stay for the night.”
“So ya be a traveler?”
“Yes.”
“Do ya have an Adventurer's License?”
“No.”
“You can get into other cities quite easily with one so I recommend you get one at the Guild along with the lass.”
“Thank you. Is that all?”
“Yep. I have to question ya friend as well so do this old man a favor and wait here until I’m done questioning the lass.”
“Alright.”
A few minutes later, Fredrick came back with Elizabeth in tow. “Hey Kori. You feeling okay? I heard they fully healed you.”
“Yeah. I’m feeling great actually. How about you?”
“I’m good.”
“Ahem.” Fredrick loudly cleared his throat, getting their attention. “You two are released and are to head to the Guild and commission an Adventurer’s License immediately. Got it?”
The both of them nodded their heads in response. After they received all their belongings, they headed to the Guild. “Hey Kori…”
“What?”
“Did you carry me all the way over here?” Elisabeth's eyes wouldn’t meet his.
“Um, yeah. Sorry.”
“No! I’m not concerned. Just… wanted to make sure.”
“Alright.” Elizabeth turned completely away from him. They had received a map from Fredrick and approached the large guild. It just looked like a hotel with a bar.
They pushed opened the door and found every other person here to be just brutes. Large, muscular, scarred old men drunk on alcohol. They felt very out of place and approached the receptionist desk with several eyes on them. “Hi, um, we would like to commission an Adventurer’s License.” Kori felt nervous having this many people stare at them. He felt very out of place.
The receptionist lady explained the process to us. “Right away. Please put your hand over this ball and fill out this form. We will commission one based on the information received. This information will be private and we will notify you once we are finished.”
“Thank you. Oh and can we sell these Demon Beast parts?”
“Yes you can sell them to the Guild and the Guild will pay you the market price for them depending on the quality. A professional here examines them.”
“Then we would like to sell these.” Kori took out their fangs from the wolves.
“These are… a very rare and high quality fangs I would say. Sabertooh Murk Wolves correct?” She was looking at the large one they got from the alpha.
“Yes they are.”
“We will notify you when the money is ready.”
“Thank you.”
The ball she mentioned was the same one as the one from the Elemental Affinity Test. So they were getting information on our magic capabilities. The form basically was to just fill out personal information like name and date of birth.
They tested for their affinities and turned in their forms. A few minutes later, they received their Adventurer’s License and their sum of money for the fangs—3 silvers. They could buy three nights at an inn.
The Adventurer’s License had all the information they had on it. Including their affinities. Kori wondered how they reacted to his affinity with Time.
Kori and Elizabeth both got what they were here for and were ready to leave this town. But, before they left, the receptionist lady notified them of something else. “Ah! Kori and Elizabeth was it? The Guildmaster would like to see you.”
“The Guildmaster?”
“Yes. He runs the Guild here. His office is upstairs down the left hallway, 5th door to your right.”
“What does he need us for?”
“He was… curious about your affinities.”
