Felipe scoffed "You need us," he said, "To do your chores?"
"Not just that" Eli replied, (Which was not the firm denial that Felipe would've liked.) "We need you two to help us take down the S.H.G.S"
"Take it down? We really are rebels."
"We're not rebels. It's the right thing to do."
"That's what rebels always say."
"We need to take them down," Allison said, "Because if we don't, then they'll keep doing their terrible experiments, they'll keep growing their power, and then no one will be able to stop them."
"What makes you think we can stop them? We're just a bunch of teenagers"
"Allison and I are both nineteen. That's technically an adult." Eli argued.
"And I'm eighteen, but I'm not fooling myself into thinking I can take down the government."
"We can," Eli spoke with conviction. "We're the only ones who can."
The others at the table nodded in agreement with him.
"How can you be sure?"
Eli grinned at him "Because we're special. We have powers that no one else has, and it's our duty to stop the S.H.G.S form making more victims."
Felipe sighed and sat back in his chair and sighed. These people were crazy. How could they stand up against the S.H.G.S...? He looked over to his sister, who seemed to be contemplating the same question. He knew she would want to help any way she could, she was always like that - selfless, brave, and stupid. That's what this is, he thought, bravery and stupidity.
But was it really?
He had to admit, it sounded good to fight, rather than sitting on his ass and waiting for the S.H.G.S agents to sniff him out. Anyways, if he left with Bella, where would they go? They had no outside friends, and no family to speak of. This rundown little cabin was the best they were gonna get.
"So are you going to help us?" Oliver asked, seemingly excited at the prospect of new members.
Felipe and Isabella glanced at each other.
"We'll have to talk about it," Felipe said.
Isabella nodded "Right."
"Feel free to step outside to talk in private" Eli said. "We'll be here once you make your decision."
Felipe and Isabella walked out of the kitchen and into the summer afternoon. They stopped just outside the cabin's doorway. Isabella spoke first:
"I think we should help them."
Felipe laughed.
"I knew you would say that."
"And I know you think it's a bad idea."
"Of course I think it's a bad idea. We'll be risking our lives staying with these people, let alone helping them. I don't think they even have a real plan."
"So we'll help them make one. Come on Felipe, we could really make a difference if we stay and fight."
"Bella" Felipe said, as gently as possible, "We just got out of that hellhole, and I for one don't do want to waste my freedom by dying."
"How do you know we're going to die? It's like what Eli said: We have powers that no one else has."
Felipe scoffed "Eli? We only just met him, and you believe everything that he says?"
Isabella turned red. Arguing with her brother was always infuriating.
"He saved us from the city, Felipe. He's brave and selfless, unlike you."
"He's brave" Felipe spat "And stupid"
Selfish Hissed Isabella's thoughts That's what this is, selfishness and fear.
"You can sit back and watch if you want," Isabella said, anger infused in every word, "But I'm not. I'm going to fight."
"Bella, please listen. I-" Felipe's voice broke for a second "I have to protect you from them. I can't- I won't - let them take you back"
So over-protective.
"Felipe, you don't need to protect me anymore."
"Of course I need to protect you, you're only sixteen"
"Can we stay or not?" Isabella asked, tired of the argument.
Felipe gave a long-suffering sigh.
"Fine, but only if you promise to be careful."
Isabella jumped up and hugged her brother.
"I knew you'd come around!"
"Promise me, Bella"
She grinned at him and said, "I promise."
