Not every story needs ships.
The only story that actually "needs" those, is a romance drama, on which the focus is on those elements.
Sure, there are people who watch series for ships, but I think most will agree, that the focus should be on the plot and the characters first. Because if you plan to do ships, but the characters aren't likeable or fun, or it makes no sense in the story... that's kinda a problem. :P
This is no criticism by the way. Just some friendly advice. :)
