“The doctor really said Kyoto will be good for my lungs?” Natsu asks as she fastens a tight knot on her knapsack.
It’s a small lie, but one Chiyo is willing to tell. At least until they’re far away from their village. “Even if you don’t want to go, I already sold the hut. Your health is important, Natsu, we can’t take this lightly. After Papa died, you’re all I have left.”
Natsu’s grip tightens, her eyes lowered. “I don’t want to leave.”
“I know, Natsu. Trust me, please.”
“Okay,” Natsu whispers. “Let’s go to Kyoto.”
It’s a long trip.
