Jared labor over his milkshake as Mike looked him over sipping his imported beer.. (This guy invited me to a restaurant with a full bar but he orders a milkshake.) He shakes his head. (How did I get such a light weight as a friend.) A small smirk emerges. (Then again. I never had a better one.) He finally give in. “Are you going to tell me what’s eating you or what? We have been sitting here for 25 minute. Not one word has come from you except our order.”
He sighs. “I feel a little lost and confused.”
(Now we are getting somewhere.) “Why, what happen? Did sleeping beauty finally take the deep plunge? ”
Jared winces at the imagery. “Mike don’t say things like that to me right now.”
The old friend looks up confused. “What should I ask?”
The doctor starts to open his mouth then close it. “Never-mind” He finally breaths out. “I’m the one who called you. I should have left you at home relaxing.” he reaches into his pocket to fish out his wallet. “I’ll just pay and we can go.”
Mike grabs his hand. “I’m not losing a free meal and a night out. ” He gesture for his friend to remain seated. “Just tell me what happened, will you?”
He pondered on what to say when he didn’t know what really the problem either. “I-I think I should start dating, but I’m not really good at dating randomly.” His friend stares at him. “Well, are you going to say something?”
“Is that it?” Mike starts laughing. “You have yours truly. Wing man extraordinaire, I’ll get laid, no problem.”
Jared quickly looks about. “Will you bring your voice down. I'm not talking about getting laid. I’m talking about a few casual dates.”
The rough talker sits back and talk another good swallow of beer. “Oh sure man I knew that. I was just spicing up the conversation.”
“How about the guy over there at the bar. He looks like hot stuff. You want me to bring him over?” He tweak his eyebrows up and down. “I’ll help you work some magic.”
Jared turns around. “He’s handsome but I don’t think it has long term potential.”
Mike sighs. “It doesn’t need to, this is random remember?” He leans in to talk low. “And he’s a red. You have a thing for blonds and reds right?”
He shrugs. “Not as a rule.”
Mike furrows his brows. “I don’t care. I’m getting him.” He was up and walking before Jared could react. His friend chatted up the stranger for a couple of minutes then waved him over. (Why am I friends with this guy. This is so embarrassing.)
As he came close the person turned around with a handsome pair of green eyes. His eyes telegraphing they liked what they saw. “I Dr Hearth. My name is Fred Keats, it’s definitely my pleasure to meet you.”
“Nice to meet you too.” (This guy has a hell of a gaze. Maybe it will be fun.) “Maybe we can exchange information and get to know eat other.”
“I’m about to leave so that would be a good idea.” The traded info. Then he was of. “So long Doctor.”
Mike laughs “Am I the best wing man or what?”
Jared nods as the stranger walks out the door. “The best ever.” He reaches into his pocket for his vibrating phone. “Dr Hearth.”
