Dr Heath ran off the elevator. He was exhausted. After handing his card and suggesting for him to invite his wife to keep him company. He flew out of the door. He dashed past the nurses desk only stopping when Zack called after him. “Hearth! Dr Hearth! He’s fine.”
Jared stop in his tracks. “Are you sure? ” He worded between breaths.
“Yes. Relax and calm down. After a sedation he settled down, He must have been having a wicked dream. His body was showing signs of agitation. I did up his oxygen and started monitoring his breathing. It’s been all quiet.“ He came around the desk for a more private exchange. “The big news is something else.” He smirks at the doctors curious eyes. “He moved his hands. He grab the bottom of my jacket. I think he is closer to consciousness then we think.”
A light lit Jared eyes. “Are you sure?” (This is great.) He turns a runs down to room 301. The shock left no other thought in his head, but to see Kile. He stops at the door. “Kile? It’s me Jared.”
The familiar smile painted it way across his face. He was still quite but he was there close to the surface. ( I’m here. I’m here.)
He put finger his hand. “Can you feel my hand. If you can squeeze as hard as you can.”
Two fingers grips his hands but very little pressure was applied. (I’m fighting. I’m here.)
“You are here, I know it.” (I will pull you back into this world with me.)
“So? What’s the verdict doc?” Zack asks from behind.
Dr Hearth turns with a gleam in his eyes. “We are close? He is just a few steps away.”
Kile relaxed in his medical bed. Staring at the bright white walls. “Why can’t I have a better colored room? Some paint to color them myself would be even better. ”
“Anxious to move around already?” Steve asks from the doorway.
“You’re here. I was wondering if I would get to see you again?” He sits up a little. “What brings you here?”
He point to the bandage on his arm. “I heard you could use a little so I gave a little.”
Kile looks at his arm. “When did I get a transfusion?”
“Just now in your mind.” Steve pull up a a chair next to his bed. “You still don’t know who I am, do you?”
Kile shakes his head completely at a loss.”I have been trying to figure you out but I can’t. Are you like my guardian angel or something?”
“I’m more of the something. I am your life-line Kile.” He reaches out to squeeze the boy legs. “I’m here to pull you back from the brink, when you heart and spirit starts to loose it’s way act the critical moment of your life. You can say. I’m your internal jaws of life. I will help you hold on as long as possible.”
“I might be waking soon. Does this mean we are at out goodbye.”
Steve smiles. “This is the end of my role for this leg of the path.” He winks, but our journey is far from over. His eyes light and room becomes too bright to see anything.
“Steve!? What’s happening?”
“Time to start the real path now. Good luck Kile.”
