"Talk about what?" Tim demanded as he walked over to his parents. He stared them down as he searched their faces.
"About this whole thing." Dan sighed. "I can't have you three worrying yourself grey every time one of you gets hurt. I believe it's time I teach you three a lesson."
"In what?" Tim frowned as he tried to understand what they did wrong.
"Lessons about being a hero. A real one." Dan shook his head. "Not every scratch and bruise should get you this worried."
"But you were worried too!" Tim protested, "What part of this isn't worrying?"
"I was at first because when Lila called... I had thought it was serious. I thought William was at the brink of death." Dan explained. "You should remember that your mother and I had fought someone much bigger than what you are facing right now. We were injured far worse than William yet we kept fighting."
"We learned early on that anything that isn't life-threatening or lethal can be brushed off."
"While it may seem extreme..." Catherine started as she noticed Tim's incredulous look, "It is just part of the business."
"Yeah, but we were family before teammates," Tim added desperately.
Catherine shook her head, "I understand but the hero business is dangerous. The moment you signed up for it, you are supposed to expect injuries along with it."
"We never got any injuries, we were careful!" Tim protested. "It was just... The moment she came... We just-"
"No, I needed to prepare you no matter what kind of opponent you had." Dan shook his head. "It was my mistake delaying this kind of lesson."
"But... Will-"
"William will be fine," Catherine assured. "He's strong."
"But-"
"What other argument are you going to make up, Timothy?" Dan sighed exasperated. "We promise you three won't be too hurt. We can't lose you too early. We're just making sure you won't make the mistake of getting distracted in the middle of battle and endangering all three of your lives."
"I-"
"Tim, it's fine," Leo muttered as he walked to his side. "I kinda understand where Dad is coming from."
Tim opened his mouth to protest but closed it after the look Leo gave him. He looked away and scratched the back of his neck, "Sorry."
"It's alright, Timothy." Catherine smiled encouragingly at Tim.
Leo ran a hand through his hair and Lila noticed his slightly red eyes. She looked down at her hands and sighed. He turned to look at Tim and nodded, "Will's awake."
Tim stiffened at the declaration and refused to meet anyone's eyes. He muttered something before he walked away from the group. Before he could get far, Lila stood up and grabbed his wrist, "Wait."
"Lila?" Tim whispered with wide eyes.
"I'm sure... I'm sure Will would want to talk to you." She whispered, "Alone."
"But-"
"Stop with your 'but's." Lila rolled her eyes and gave her brother a little push, "Take it."
Tim bit his lip and nodded. He walked towards the ER with his head down. Leo and their parents watched him walk away while Lila turned to her eldest brother, "Leo..."
He raised an eyebrow at her as she gestured for him to come over childishly. He complied with her wish and left their parents to discuss things among themselves. He wrapped an arm around Lila's shoulder and brought her to one end of the hallway, "Yeah?"
"It's not your fault, ya know?" Lila whispered as she squeezed his hand.
"I-" He paused and ran a hand through his hair, "I don't know, Lila. Can we not have this conversation now?"
"No. You avoided it last time and I'm going to drill it in your head." Lila scowled. "It's no one's fault."
"Not even Kitsune?" Leo raised an eyebrow, "You know, I never really got your opinion on her."
Lila gulped as she realized her mistake. Maybe she shouldn't have called him over. She paused and reconsidered. She can't help seeing Leo so... Down. She shook her head, "I don't really know. I've never seen her in action before. She... I only heard of her from you guys. I haven't even seen her use her powers."
"Do you think..." Leo trailed off, his stare going into space. "Do you think she knows who we are."
Lila stiffened, "What makes you say that?"
"From what I heard from Will and Tim... Her taunts seemed personal- like she knew exactly what made them tick." Leo paused, "She also attacked us where we- as civilians- were."
"Do-"
"Not only that," Leo continued his rant, "but she seems to be able to predict out moves too easily. She also knows exactly what to say. From what I heard, she speaks differently from Will and Tim."
"Leo..." Lila cut him off with a sigh, "It's... It's best that you don't think about it too deeply."
"But why not?" Leo stressed.
Lila hesitated, "Worrying over something makes you overthink. Maybe they're just coincidences."
"Too many." Leo sighed.
"We don't know." Lila shrugged. "After all, you mentioned her debut being at the Circle, right?"
"I don't know, Lila. It just seems too fishy for me." Leo shrugged.
Lila opened her mouth to argue once more when Tim walked out of the ER. Leo noticed him immediately and patted Lila on the arm. He smiled reassuringly at her before he chased after Tim. Lila sighed and turned to the ER entrance.
With a deep breath, she walked in. When she did, she was greeted by the bustle of nurses and doctors around the curtains and beds. She did a quick sweep before she approached the bed where Will was placed.
The older boy smiled at his sister when he saw her enter, "Lila... How are you?"
"That should be my line." She joked as she sat the end of the bed. "So, how is it?"
"It's not that painful. I guess I slept through the more painful parts." Will shrugged, "I'm not that weak. I guess Tim and Leo were worried because it is our first time actually getting hurt."
"And the fact that you took a pretty strong hit." Lila pointed out.
Will flinched, "Yeah, I kinda expected it- especially coming from Tim. So I kinda... Prepared a little."
"So that's why you didn't get a concussion." Lila realized. "What did you do? That was a pretty big blow. Especially, from what I heard, the fact that it had Tim's sound boom and a bit of lightning and wind pushed into it."
Will shook his head, "There was more lightning definitely. I placed a water barrier but the lightning kinda cancelled it and allowed a big backlash."
"This you fell unconscious." Will nodded at the observation.
"Either way, I'm not mad at Tim... Well, maybe a little bit but I blame Kitsune more."
Lila flinched, "Oh?"
"Yeah, her and her stupid mind games can just fuck off."
"You might be hurt, William, but that doesn't excuse your language." Catherine scolded as she walked in.
Will have her a cheeky smile, "Can I feign a concussion."
Lila snorted as Catherine shook her head, "Please don't."
"Well, I mean... I'm a pretty good actor." Will teased with a wide grin.
"We all know and you can't lie to the instruments." Leo snorted as he, Tim and Dan walked in.
"I can try." Will stuck out his tongue.
Lila covered her smile, "Are you sure you didn't get a concussion, I feel like you and Tim switched."
"Shut up, I'm still a prankster." Will huffed.
Tim laughed out loud and placed himself beside Will, "Glad to see you're back in commission, Will."
"I was never out of it in the first place." Will snorted.
"Boys... We have to talk."
