"Boys... We have to talk." The three teenage boys looked up and stared at their father. He sighed and placed a hand on Will's shoulder, "It's... Important."
Leo straightened and gestured for Will to listen, "Alright, dad... We're ready."
Dan looked at Catherine and Lila. Catherine smiled slightly before she nodded. She took Lila by the arm and brought her out the ER for the moment.
Will looked at his father and two brothers in confusion, "What's going on?"
"Dad's talk." Tim scowled.
Will frowned at the action, "Dad?"
"I can't have you and your brothers worrying over such a small-"
"Dad!" Tim stressed, "It's not-"
"Let me finish, Timothy."
Tim huffed and turned away from their father. Leo sent him a look before he turned to Will, "Dad thinks we shouldn't worry over each other's injuries."
Will snorted, "Yeah, I agree with him. We can take care of ourselves. It's the lethal ones that we look out for."
Tim gaped at his brother, "Will!"
"He's right, Tim." Will shrugged. "If this is about it being your fault then-"
"It's not." Tim hissed, the red creeping up his neck.
Will snorted, "Sure, Timmy."
Tim gritted his teeth while Leo rolled his eyes. He placed a hand on Tim's shoulder and shook his head, "Tim, just listen to dad."
"I'm not saying you shouldn't worry completely." Dan let out a breath. "I'm just advising you that you shouldn't stop what you're doing just to fuss over your brother. You may do that if they're unconscious and have one of you cover but overall it is dangerous to be distracted."
"We understand, dad." Leo nodded as he nudged Tim. The boy huffed but nodded along.
Dan sighed, "I know it might take a while to get used to but I hope you three can understand."
While the three boys sat in silence as they digested the information they were given, Catherine drove Lila to where she had left her costume. The two females stayed silent as the drive continued.
"Delilah?" Catherine called out as she hit traffic.
"Yeah?"
"It's not your fault."
"I don't know, mom." Lila huffed and crossed her arm, "I feel like everything is becoming my fault."
"No," Catherine tightened her grip on the wheel and sighed, "I just- All I'm saying is-"
Catherine heaved a heavy sigh and leaned against the back of her car seat. Lila bit her lip and looked out the window. The skies were a dull grey and she noticed how there were less people out and about. It was just about dawn and she shuddered to herself. She turned to her mom and pursed her lip, "I understand where you're coming from, mom but- I just can't help but overthink. Leo is suspicious of Kitsune and-"
"He doesn't have any grounds to support-"
"I know!" Lila burst out, "I know. I just don't want them to jump to conclusions and blame someone and reveal their identities and-"
"Delilah..." Catherine let out a sigh as she placed a hand on Lila's shoulder, "Listen to me and calm down."
"I'm listening and calm." Lila gritted her teeth.
Catherine sent her a sharp look, "Are you sure about that, Delilah?"
Lila flinched at the sharp tone of her mother, "I- sorry."
"I just need you to be calm, if you panic you won't be able to think straight." Catherine turned back to the road and followed the traffic, "I'm sure they will be more distracted with the lessons Dan will be giving them."
Lila shrugged, "I don't really know, I'm just scared that Will will get wind of Leo's suspicion."
"Ah yes, William is quite observant." Catherine hummed, "I can cover for you."
"I know and- wait what?" Lila turned to face her mom fully. "You- what?"
Catherine laughed as she took a turn, "I'll help you. With Dan focusing more on the boy's training I can focus on helping you."
Lila's eyes sparkled, "Thank you!"
"Anything for you, dear."
With a start, Lila recognized the street and patted her mom's arm gently, "We're close by, wait-"
She scanned the road as Catherine drove slowly and her eyes caught the tree she hid her clothes in- the mailbox being her landmark, "Right here."
Catherine parked the car by the tree and Lila got out of the car. She looked around before she used her illusions to make herself disappear. With the flick of her wrist, she was lifted off the ground and she easily floated by the tree branch her sports bag was hanging from. She grabbed it and headed back to the car. She released the illusion and a sigh once she entered the car, her bag clutched close to her chest, "That was close."
"Is everything okay?" Catherine asked as she started up the car once more.
Lila rummaged through her things and released another sigh, "Yes. Everything's here."
Catherine smiled at her daughter and drove off from the street. There was a long bit of silence before Lila perked up and realized something.
"Mom?"
"Yes, Delilah?"
"Do you think... you can help me?"
Catherine paused and continued to drive. When they hit a red light, she turned to Lila and let out a sigh, "I would love to but you should know that I cannot help you when you incorporate the elements into your illusions."
"I know but... can you just- I don't know... be there with me and advise me?"
Catherine blinked before she smiled at Lila, "Of course I will. I support you fully in whatever you do."
"Really?"
"Just make sure not to get hurt."
"But-"
"I know what I said with William but- well... when you get hurt- I- who knows how far your brothers will go. No one will be with you to call for help. Then, your brothers will find out."
Lila looked down at her lap and clenched her hands, "I- I understand."
Catherine went to place her hand on her daughter's shoulder when a loud honk stopped her. She jumped and realized the light had turned green. She flushed as she drove forward and Lila stifled a laugh.
"Delilah..."
"I know, I'm not telling dad."
Catherine and Lila let loose a laugh as they entered the outskirts of the hospital. Catherine stopped the car in front of the main entrance. Lila froze, "Wait- I'm going in there with-"
"No, leave it with me. I'm just dropping you off since your dad might need the extra hand."
"You think they're being stubborn?"
"I'm not really sure but it's best to be prepared."
Lila nodded and opened the door of the car. She slipped out easily and left her bag on the seat. She gave her mom a smile and waved at her, "Take care."
"You too."
Lila watched as her mom drove off and she took a deep breath. She hugged herself and turned to enter the hospital. She did a quick sweep of the people in the waiting areas and walked into the ER. She walked past the many closed curtains and tried to remember where Will had been placed. She frowned when she couldn't find him and walked back out. She found a nurse and stopped him, "Uhm, excuse me?"
"Yes?"
"Did the patient named William Cosmose get checked out?"
"I'm sorry but you should ask the receptionist."
"Thank you." Lila bowed her head slightly before she walked to the receptionist and greeted the lady behind the desk kindly, "Uh- hi... Is William Cosmose checked out?"
"Cosmose... Cosmose..." The lady muttered as she scrolled through her computer. "Ah, he was transferred to Room 3012 to stabilize him."
"Thank you."
