The moment Will was discharged from the hospital, Dan jumped at the chance to begin his lesson with the boys. While he couldn't jump to the more practical lessons, he stuck to theoretical lessons during the healing process of Will's arm. The boys followed his every word with every bit of their concentration. After seeing Will hurt during a fight with Kitsune, they started taking her more seriously. So far, she hadn't attacked since that night.
Lila watched her brothers from the kitchen as their father continued with their lesson. She felt a hand on her shoulder and she turned to see her mom. Catherine smiled at her and gave an encouraging nod, "Do you want to talk to them?"
"No... I still feel bad for what I did." Lila shrugged and looked back at her brothers. They were currently pitching in ideas on how they could go about their practice. "But I do know I can't avoid them forever."
"That's true." Catherine mused.
"What... what if they find out that I do have powers?"
"Hey now... it's our little secret, remember?"
"Yeah but..."
"We'll cross that bridge when we get there." Catherine shook her head, "Now, about that training you wanted..."
Lila perked up and looked at her mom with wide eyes, "We can do that now?"
"Sure, let's go somewhere private though." Catherine placed a finger to her lips, "While Dan and I didn't tell the boys about Apophis nor about our little... secret rooms under the house- you aren't them."
Lila's eyes widened, even more, when Catherine placed a hand on a nondescript tile on the wall and the wall beside it opened up. Her mouth was agape when Catherine led her into the elevator and pressed the lowest number. The door closed and the elevator brought them down at shocking speeds.
"Woah!" Lila let out as she steadied herself.
Catherine laughed, "Dan and I had three floors built under our house... About... a 9 feet difference for each floor." She paused when Lila let out another shocked noise, "The first floor is our communication room where we can contact the prison and our home planet. The second floor is where we keep our weapons as well as our costumes. It was also where Dan used to make weapons."
"Dad made weapons?" Lila asked as they passed the first floor.
"Yes, he did. Quite talented too." Catherine let out a small chuckle, "Then, the last floor." She smiled, "Was our training room."
"Wait, if you guys had a training room... Why didn't you let my brothers use it?"
"While we allowed them to train, our training room was a lot more... complex than just dummies they can practice their powers on." Catherine shook her head, "It has different gadgets that tests your agility as well as courses that allowed you to test your endurance as well as usage of powers while doing another activity like running."
"Multitasking..." Lila muttered, "They weren't able to do it properly cause they needed to really focus their powers."
"Exactly," Catherine agreed, "before Dan would let them use this, they have to be able to multitask properly. Seeing as how Dan never saw the need for them to use it that way, he just... let them train on their own."
"But with the threat of Apophis probably coming closer, and with me there too... He saw they were too..."
"Out of practice and needed guidance." Catherine finished. "He noticed how they focused on the wrong things during their independent training."
Lila remained silent during the rest of the ride until they ended up on the last floor. The door opened and she couldn't stop her gasp at the look of the room. It was huge.
"Mom... what in the-"
"Language, darling." Catherine chided as she entered the room. Lila struggled to follow as she got distracted by the many buttons and objects around the room. "This is our training room."
"It's- It's so big." Lila deadpanned as she looked around, "How did you- how did you have this built?"
"With your father's powers, he could terraform almost anything."
"Is this all based on your capabilities?" Lila ran her hand over a spear. The tip lit up and she could feel the cold air as the tip formed with ice.
"Yes, but most were geared for me to use to help Dan." Catherine shook her head as she picked up a pair of metallic gloves, "Some were just prototypes while the real weapons were brought up to the second floor."
"Cool..." Lila muttered as she picked up a staff.
She twirled it around when she hit a button on the wall. She let out a squeak when a robot, the size of a dog, dropped to the ground. She let out a small scream when it lunged at her. In reflex, she twirled the staff and it hit the robot's head. The head twisted to face the back and the robot stopped. A claw appeared and grabbed the dog and retracted back to a hole in the wall.
"Yes, be careful." Catherine smiled fondly as she watched her daughter, "Dan made it that the walls had buttons so that when we fought some robots if ever we hit the buttons it will activate and drop down more enemies for us to fight."
"Cool." Lila looked at the seemingly harmless buttons with new light. She looked around for a bit before she spotted a secluded area, "What's this?"
"Oh, that was for me, darling." Catherine chuckled as she ran a hand through the control key board. "It was to test how strong my illusions got."
Lila's eyes lit up, "Can I use it?"
"I don't see why you can't." Catherine waved a hand to the entrance, "Go on in."
Lila left behind the staff and walked into the secluded area. She watched the walls as they were pushed back and revealed cameras and sensors. She looked over to her mother who nodded and she breathed in. With a wave of her hand, she adopted her Kitsune persona and watched as the sensors went crazy and the cameras started to click. Catherine gestured for Lila to do more and she nodded.
She flicked her wrist and watched as a copy of her brother, Leo, appeared. She swallowed and snapped her fingers. The copy moved and created flames in his hands. She looked over to her shocked mother who continued to stare at the control panel. Lila frowned and canceled the illusions before approaching her mother.
"What's wrong?"
"It's... it did not register as an illusion. The only illusion it detected was your Kitsune form."
"Oh..." Lila blinked in shock. She looked up and waved her hand. Within the secluded area, she created three illusions. The copies of her brothers. She snapped her fingers and they began to move and summon their respective main element. She allowed them to move around a bit and turned to look down at the control panel. Nothing.
"Mom..."
"This... this is more than just illusions, Delilah," Catherine mumbled. "These are full-blown copies, almost clones even."
"What? But my powers are just-"
"Your powers may just be limited to illusions and elements but with enough practice and a creative mind," Catherine paused and looked at her daughter, "You can create a new power."
"But that's-"
"It's not impossible." Catherine shook her head, "Father did it once."
"Grandfather?" Lila tilted her head as she let the illusions- no- copies fall. "You- you never mention him."
"Yes, because he- he did what no one thought was possible." Catherine shook her head. "You and him are the very first people to create a new power with what they already possessed."
"What did he do?"
"He destroyed a whole city."
