Once Oliver had created a sizable sprout, he looked up to Felipe, as if for approval. For a moment, Felipe was too stunned to speak.
"Whoah," he said simply. Oliver seemed disappointed by the lacking response. Luckily, Isabella was there, and she looked completely flabbergasted.
"Do plants grow that quickly?! What kind of seeds did you use?"
"They're just regular bean sprouts." Oliver said, "They only grow quickly when I make them."
"That's so cool!" Isabella gushed "How do you do it?"
Oliver beamed.
"It's easy." he said, "All I need to grow the seeds is water, but they last longer if you plant them properly."
"Do you grow all our food?"
"Most of it."
"Can you grow any plant?"
"As long as I have the seeds"
Isabella's rapid-fire questions continued, and Oliver answered each happily. He seemed to relish the attention. Felipe soon grew bored with their chattering and decided to take a look around the outside of the house. He turned to tell Isabella that he was leaving, but she was too caught up in conversation, so he just left.
There really wasn't much to see. The clearing that the house was in was empty of anything other than grass, flowers, bugs, and weeds. Felipe supposed that he could explore the woods but... well, to be honest, he thought they were kind of creepy. The trees were tall and densely packed, and the underbrush was thick and untamed. And they were quiet too, as though nothing was alive in there but plants. The whole place looked like it could swallow him whole, and that no one would notice.
No thanks, Felipe thought before he turned back to the house.
While he was walking back, he took another look at the old shed. It was in complete shambles: One side sagged dangerously to the left, and from the looks of it, there were also holes in the ceiling. Most of the boards also looked rotted.
What had Eli said the shed was for? Secret operations? Wasn't this whole place a secret? What were they hiding in there that was so secret that he couldn't tell them about it? While Felipe was pondering these questions, his legs instinctively brought him to the door of the shed. When Felipe came back to reality, he had a decision to make: Go inside, or not?
It couldn't hurt to take a look, could it? Anyway, Felipe reasoned, Eli hadn't told them explicitly not to go in, he had just told them not to worry about it. But wasn't that the same thing?
Whatever, I'm going in. Throw me out for all I care he thought.
He opened the door, which took more effort than you would expect, and peeked his head in.
"Hello? Anyone in here?"
No reply. Felipe took a step inside, which make the floorboards creak loudly. A second later, a shadow jumped up from the other side of the shed, high-pitched sound, and threw something straight at Felipe's head.
