I have been in college for about a week now and things are getting better. This girl that sits next to me is very friendly and cute. We have a class together on Mondays and Wednesdays. I think she is flirting with me, but I don’t really know. My roommate and I are getting close at a rate that is really suspicious to me. I have never been in a friendship or any type of relationship where I developed a closeness over a short amount of time. I am both scared and excited that I may have a friend, maybe even a best friend. I also don’t know anyone else other than my roommate, so I only spend time with her. Also, I’m too nervous to ask Rose to hang out.

“Hey, you want to go get some food? I’m starving, but I don’t want to go to the dining hall alone.” Ryan asked Jazmine who was lying in her bed seconds away from a beautiful, glorious, exquisite, nap.

Reluctantly Jazmine got up because she was always done for some food. Who isn’t? As she was walking to the dining hall, she remembered her mother’s words, “be careful when it comes to food, you already gained a few pounds, don’t want to gain fifteen more. Freshman fifteen is a real thing.”

Every time she goes to eat or does eat, she remembers what her mother told her the first day Jazmine moved into her dorm. Ever since then, she made sure to watch what she ate, and to watch her calories. She’s been doing pretty good with it, but there are times when she just binges. Every time she would see something that looked good, she would just grab and eat it, whether it is healthy or not.

After they ate, they went to the library. Jazmine needed to get a job so that she can pay the interest on the loans she took out to pay for tuition. She was very nervous about the whole job process. She didn’t know whether she should go to the first desk or what she would say to the person at the front desk, so she brought Ryan along to help with the uncertainty with everything. Also, it could help her feel a little more comfortable talking to the person at the front desk because she is around someone she knows.

When she got to the library, she went to the front desk and told her that she was wondering if they had any jobs available. They said that they were going to get the manager, but the manager was in a meeting, so she would be out in about ten minutes.

Jazmine knew that if she went to her dorm room, she wouldn’t come back to the library, so she waited there. The girl at the front desk asked for Jazmine’s name so she call her when the manager was ready.

Jazmine was looking around and she saw Rose and they made eye contact. Rose smiled and she waived at Jazmine and Jazmine waved back, trying not to smile too hard.

Ryan saw this exchange and said, “Jazmine who is that?”

“That’s Rose, the girl from the class, you know the one that sits next to me,” Jazmine responded.

“Girl if you don’t go over there and talk to her,” Ryan said while pushing Jazmine in the direction of Rose.

Jazmine walked over to Rose making sure she stayed at a constant speed, not walking too fast, not too slow.

“Hey Jaz, you look really cute today. Why are you in the library?” Rose asked when she finally reached the hearing distance.

“Thank you, I am looking to get a job here.” Jazmine wasn’t used to the random compliments, no one actually gave her compliments.

“Oh, I’m sure they would give you the job and if they don’t, then it’s their loss. Are you going to spend the money on yourself?” Ryan has always been so nice to Jazmine since they meet and Jazmine has been very grateful for that. It also makes her happy to see her and encourages her to go to the class they have together.

“Yeah, I’m spending the money on myself kind of. I’ll be using it for my bills I have to pay.” Jazmine responded.

“Aww, you’re so responsible. I wish I was, but I just spend all the money my parents send.” Ryan started off and then continued with, “so are you doing something tonight?”

“No, I don’t do anything but go to class and just stay in my dorm. The only time I’m out is when I’m at the dining hall eating. Why?” Jazmine said.

Ryan took a few seconds to answer and started off, “So do you want to…”

“Jazmine, the manager is here to talk to you.” The girl at the front desk said.

“Sorry, I’ll see you in a few, I have to go talk to the manager.” Jazmine left Rose and talked to the manager. He led her to a back room and he started asking questions.

Jazmine asked if there were any positions available. Se made sure she spoke very proper and was very polite so she can get the job. He asked if she could work from 8 am to 1 pm on the weekend and from 7 pm to 12 am on weekdays and if she could, she would get the job.

She said that she would do those hours because she does need the money. He then asked how soon she could work and she said the next day, which was Friday. When she was done talking to the manager she looked for Rose to see if she was still there. It seemed like she was going to ask her something and if she didn’t find out, she knew she wouldn’t stop thinking about it until she saw Rose on Monday. Jazmine couldn’t see Rose, so she assumed Rose left.

She went to Ravyn and told her her schedule and said, “Rayvn, you should apply too, then the 12 am work nights won’t be so boring.”

Ryan laughed and responded with, “I would rather go to parties and sniff coke, than work for someone.”

“Oh, damn. That’s intense,” Jazmine replied and they went back to their dorm.
