Time passed, but Katie didn’t move, she was so scared of the other people in the cell, they weren’t human and they looked scary, as if they could kill you, if you annoyed them.
But that wasn’t the worst, the worst part of it all was, she kept reliving the old lady’s death.
The old lady wasn’t the only one that died, sometimes the vampires would come and drag one of the prisoners away, and they would never return, but that was not exactly proof, that they died, but the screams that would come shortly after sure was.
The vampires also gave them food, although the food was small amounts it was enough to keep them alive.
Not that Katie would know, since she was so caught up in her in thoughts, that she didn’t even realise, that it had been days since she last ate something, her stomach was rumbling painfully, her throat was parched, and even though it hadn’t been that long since she drank some water, a kind-hearted spirit had placed some more beside her.
“.........ey…..hey can you hear me?”
Katie screamed or would have if her throat hadn’t been so parched, she stared wide eyed at the source of the sound, she had been caught completely of guard, since there hadn’t been anyone that had tried to talk to her, she hadn’t tried to talk to the others either, so now her heart was hammering in her chest and her brain was already assuming that the vampires had come for her.
“Hey don’t look so scared, I’m not gonna hurt you,”the voice had spoken again, it belonged to a young boy, most likely her age, so around 15 - 16 years. There was something familiar about him, but she couldn’t really pinpoint what it was, maybe it was because he had wolf ears and tail just like the old lady had.
“Are you listening?” That was when it hit her, it was the same voice, that had told her to keep walking, when the old lady was killed.
“You really need to eat,” the boy said, Katie looked carefully at the boy, she didn’t really trust him, although he didn’t seem to want to hurt her, so she gathered up courage and asked.
“......... Why do you care?”
“Well…..it’s a bit hard to explain” answered the boy.
“You could always try.” Katie covered her mouth, the moment she realised what she had just said, but the boy just laughed. “Well I guess, that’s true, mmmh okay sooo do you remember the old lady, that talked to you? well she is…. no was my grandmother and if she wanted to help you, then that means you are a good person and I kind of also got interested in you.”
He was silent for a while before he reached for a bowl he had beside him and pushed it over to Katie, “here you should really eat something.”
“Thank you,” said Katie, her stomach reminding her painfully, that she hadn’t eaten for awhile, so she reached out to take the bowl with some kind of soup in it.
The first sip of the soup tasted absolutely horrible, and she nearly spat all of it out again. “Hey I know it tastes horrible, but you have got to eat it,” laughed the boy.
Katie looked at the boy and began to wonder what his name was, so once again she dared to ask a question, “What’s your name?”
At first the boy just looked at her, then he answered, “my name is Luke. what about you?”
“my name is Katie.”
