Porter pushed the large umbrella, Kylie had thankfully brought along, out the door and put it up before to much water got on him or in the car. The rain was getting worse and worse by the minute.
He rushed to the front of his house. It took a while to find his stuff, Joel must have thrown it over the stairs instead of walking down. Everything was wet and trashed. A few things were missing, like his pillows and blankets, which he assumed were taken by a homeless person who thought it was abandoned, either that or Joel kept everything that was gone.
So much was missing that he could easily carry it all in one go. All he had left was a large duffle bag full of clothes, the backpack which he always took to work with him, and a hairbrush. He rushed back to the car and chucked everything into the boot. He opened the door and climbed in next to Jessy.
It was hard not to get water everywhere.
As Kyte sped off, following Jessy’s directions to her aunt’s house, Porter used his power to take the water out of his clothes and hair and the umbrella. He opened the window slightly and through the ball out, using his powers to stop the rain from coming in.
“You remember how to do that?” Anti asked once the car was dry. She was a little amazed.
“Yeah, I remembered how to do it yesterday.” He told her.
“It was really cool.” Jessy added. She was getting more and more nervous the closer we got to her house. She repeatedly fussed with her hair, even though it already looked good.
“You are remembering fast.” Anti complimented Porter. She wondered if he remembered how he learnt those powers, most likely not since he didn’t say anything about that.
Once they got to Jessy’s house the rain had calmed down. Heavy droplets still fell from the sky, wetting everything in sight, but at least the ground in front of them could be seen.
Porter looked up to the sky as he left the car and only saw grey. He missed the sun, especially with the cold wind that accompanied the rain.
Porter, Jessy, and Kyte huddled under one umbrella while Kylie and Anti were under another. They made their way through the apartment building until they made it to Jessy’s door.
Jessy hesitated, running a hand through her hair. She was more then concerned about how this would go. After a few seconds, she knocked on the door. Despite the quiet volume of the knock, the door was opened within seconds. A young woman, about the age of 25, enveloped Jessy in a hug. The panic and worry quickly dissipated from the woman’s face, leaving behind a look of relief.
“Where were you?” her voice cracked as she spoke.
“Aunt Carol, I’m fine. Look, all in one piece!” Jessy tried to smile as her aunt let go and looked over her. Carol reached up and raked her hand through Jessy’s newly short hair.
Jessy panicked, but for no reason she quickly realised as her aunt smiled at her kindly.
“Your hair looks great.” she said as she let go of Jessy’s hair. Jessy beamed in response. “So, who are all these people?”
“They’re my friends.” She pointed to each of them and told her aunt their names. “If you let us inside, I can explain everything.
After a second of thought, Carol guided them into her apartment and sat them all in her loungeroom. She looked unsure about trusting them, especially Anti who she eyed cautiously.
“Go on and explain.” Carol encouraged Jessy as she sat down across from everybody at the dining table.
“Well, I was at work when Porter came in to tell the boss why he missed his shift.” She paused to take in a breath before continuing, “He got attacked the night before and had only just got out of the hospital an hour or two earlier. The boss got angry and kicked him, then he made us go into his office where he turned into a giant wolf man and attacked us.” She cringed at the unbelievable story.
“A wolf man? How did you meet all these people then?” Carol asked. Strangely, she seemed to believe the story.
“I met them after a woman named Nia saved us. She’s really nice, she’s the one who cut my hair.” She smiled.
“You guys know Nia? Rebellium leader Nia?” Carol asked. Everybody but Kyte and Kylie were surprised by Carol knowing who Nia was.
“You know Nia?” Anti asked.
“Well, no. But I’ve heard of her. Every rebellium knows who Nia is.” Carol stated.
“She’s a witch. An earth witch, they’re the good kind.” Kyte informed everyone.
“You’re a witch? Why did you never tell me?” Jessy asked.
“Um… Well, because I’m the only witch in our family. Your mother found out and reacted badly, as she does with most things, so I decided never to tell another human. But I suppose I’ve broken that promise now.” She told them. Jessy looked to the ground. “Unless there’s something you have to tell me?” she concentrated on Jessy.
“The werewolf bit me and I survived, so now I’m a werewolf.” she sighed.
“And I assume you’re going to stay with Nia. That is best since I wouldn’t know how to help you.” Her aunt gave her a motherly smile. “But will I be able to visit?”
Jessy looked to Kylie, since she knew more about the cave.
“You’ll have to ask Nia, but people don’t really visit because of the spells placed on that area. It’s spelled so that no one can say its name or location, or even what form it takes. It also moves every eight days, so tomorrow it could be in another area of this town, or even another country. But it has pretty good cell service wherever it is, so you can keep in touch.” Kylie told them. “It’ll be back here soon enough. Never in the same location, but it’ll be back.”
“That’s good news I guess.” Carol said, but she didn’t mean it.
