“Heaven,” Victor twirled around the office with a large smile painted on his face while he sang. “I’m in heaven.”
Maynard sighed and continued to fill out his paperwork, keeping one eye trained on the ridiculous Alpha dancing around without a care. He wanted to ask the man to stop, but these last few days have been stressful for everyone and he didn’t want to ruin to little bit of fun that Victor was having.
“And my heart beats so that I can hardly speaaaak~”
The doctor assumed that the stress was only going to get worse once he was called back down to Azaki’s room. There was no way that the man was going to take to his new status as a bonded Omega well, and his psychological state aside, he needed a lot of coaching on how to be an Omega in the first place.
“And I seem to find that happiness I seek,” Victor took this opportunity to grab a coat rack and begin twirling more passionately now.
Maynard couldn’t help but let out a small chuckle as Victor attempted to dip the coat rack, which only cause all of the coats and hats that had been on it to fall dramatically to the floor. Victor seemed to perk up at knowing he’d gotten a reaction and chose to increase his volume tenfold.
“When we’re out together, dancing, cheek to cheek~!”
Maynard turned his attention back to his paperwork, trying his best not to encourage Victor’s increased enthusiasm. He carefully arranged the pamphlets on his desk in order of importance and grabbed the mouse to his computer and navigated to the print option.
As the sound of the tray pulling the paper into the machine on the other side of the room rang out, Maynard motioned toward the printer and glances at Victor who nodded and began to move his performance in that direction which upping his enthusiasm another notch.
“Oh! I love to climb a mountain,
And reach the highest peak,” The Alpha scooped the papers from the tray with a dramatic twirl,
“But it doesn’t thrill me half as much,
As, dancing, cheek to cheek!” He handed the documents over to the doctor with a sense of flair that should only be reserved for Broadway and Maynard allowed himself to chuckle again.
“Thank you,” Maynard stated while looking through the papers and arranging them in his pile. There was now plenty of starter documentation for Azaki to go over. Hopefully this easily digestible information would be a good start and not too overwhelming for the man.
He still deeply feared for Azaki’s mental state right now, and hoped that with the bond that maybe Malakai would be able to keep him from falling off the deep end. “Are you ready to go check on Kai?”
“Yes!” Victor exclaimed with a graceless pose and a smile. “Let’s get this done so I can take my sweetie-baby back home.”
Victor’s lightly freckled cheeks twinged pink at his words and Maynard grinned in satisfaction. It was nice to see that a person as ridiculous as Victor had found someone, despite how little sense the pairing made to him.
The older gentleman stood and straightened his lab coat before scooping up the paperwork and heading toward the door. Victor followed with his usual bounce in step and exited the room behind him.
That’s when they smelled the distress in the air.
It burned their noses like gasoline.
Victor started to sprint down the hallway with Maynard hot on his tail. The doctor was unsure as to why he reacted so quickly to the scent, but as a Beta he had much less insight into the scents that the two of them had picked up in the air.
When they finally rounded the corner to Azaki’s room they were met with a strange sight. Asza was slowly lifting himself off the floor and looked as if he’d just exhausted himself, Azaki was cuddled into Malakai’s chest while keeping his eyes trained on Asza like he was prey, and Malakai was rubbing loving circles into his Omega’s back with a satisfied smirk on his face.
All five of the Beta guards were staring at Azaki like he was some kind of alien. ‘What the fuck is happening?’ The Doctor questioned himself while taking cautious steps forward.
Victor was no longer smiling. His eyes were calculated as he scanned over the situation. When he noticed the Doctor starting to advance, he grabbed Maynard’s arm (a bit more harshly than he’d intended) and held him in place.
Maynard turned sharply to question the man but felt his inquiries die in his throat at the expression on the Alpha’s face. Victor looked like a Prime to Maynard for the first time. His eyes were predatory and trained on Azaki like he was about to pounce on the threat. Maynard stilled in panic.
What the shit happened here?
It seemed like Asza finally noticed the new presence of Victor and Maynard and allowed his eyes to shift in their direction for a quick second before returning to Azaki who was wearing a smug grin on his face. Something in Asza’s expression seemed to relieve a bit of the tension in Victor who took a calming breath.
It was at that moment that Kai seemed to turn his attention away from his Omega and noticed the growing audience. The man leaned into his Omega’s ear and whispered something with a low drawl.
Whatever he said seemed to release the tension in Azaki’s shoulders, and the Omega turned his back on the crowd and buried his face into Kai’s chest. Maynard watched as Azaki was lead back into his hospital room, Kai giving everyone warning looks that implied that they wait a moment before following.
As soon as the door shut behind them, Victor ran to Asza and pulled the man against his chest tightly. “Are you okay, sweetie?”
“I’m fine,” The smaller Alpha could barely be heard over the practical smothering that Victor was subjecting him to. “Like I’m scared of some Omega.” He tacked on, almost as if his pride was partially on the line.
“W-What just happened?” One of the Beta guards finally broke the silence with a tone that was painted with panic.
“Dude, no idea, that Omega feral or something?”
Asza exhaled deeply and peeled himself off Victor’s chest. “The Omega smelled Kai on me and went batshit.” He looked up into Victors eyes as if willing the man to stay calm. “I’m sure he couldn’t help it. You said he was dormant until now, right?”
Maynard nodded, realizing that the question had been directed at him. “Y-yes, Azaki was dormant until he met Kai. He’s probably running completely on instinct right now.”
“That Omega must have some fucked up instincts.” Victor bit angrily in the direction of the door which was followed with a growl that made the hallway seem to shake for a moment.
Asza responded by popping the man on the head with his palm and giving him a soft smile. “Chill out, I’m fine.”
“Really?” Victor practically whined.
“Yes, babe.” Asza drawled into his chest.
The statement was followed by a moment of very awkward scenting between the two Alpha’s. Everyone else in the hallway opted to look anywhere but at the downright scandalous act between the two Primes that was taking place in front of them. When they’d finally finished. Maynard cleared his throat in discomfort.
“I’m guessing Kai was able to calm him down quickly?”
“Yes.” Asza replied coolly while still rubbing his wrists up and down Victors arms to calm him. Gone was the adorable Alpha singing and dancing around his office. What was standing in the hallway was a killer, through and through, and it was furious that someone had threatened it’s mate. “I’d never seen Kai go full Alpha like that, it was actually pretty cool.”
Victor responded to the chipper tone in Asza’s voice as if he’d been snapped out of a daze. It seemed like the cloudiness in his eyes cleared and left the Alpha looking around confused before burying his nose in the smaller blonde’s hair.
“The boss was really cool.” One of the Beta’s said while trying to imitate the subtle flick of his finger that Kai had directed at the raging Omega. Another Beta chuckled at the terrible impression.
Maynard stiffened and started to walk toward the door. It sounded like Azaki was currently his Omega and not himself, he wasn’t sure if that would make this process harder or easier.
He sighed and swung the door to the scentless ward open and headed off to check on his patient, much more worried than he’d been before.
