I’m just an ordinary, boring high schooler.
My name is Jessy, well my birth name is actually Jessica but my family and friends call me Jessy, I’m 15 years old and attend XX High School…and right now I’m in the middle of Science class trying to keep my eyes open but I’ve not been sleeping too great recently….
“Jessica Bolder!”
A bit dazed I lifted my head from the desk and responded,
“Yes?...”
“Can you tell me what I just said?”
“Uhmm…”
Miss Strong was my science teacher, newly qualified and started this year. She was inexperienced and naive. Apparently some of the older girls had locked her in the girl’s bathroom earlier in the month. I’m pretty sure since then she has tried to exert her dominance as a teacher, and maybe if I was one of the cool kids I would had some witty back chat response to give her but as I said, ordinary and boring…
“Sorry Miss Strong, I wasn’t listening”
“Well that will be detention for you Miss Bolder. I’ll see you here at 4pm on the dot and we can go through today’s lesson again”
I nodded until she turned her back writing up on the blackboard rolled my eyes, sighed and let my head drop on top of the science exercise book making sure I wasn’t caught again dozing for the rest of the lesson.
After Science, there was English class. Mr Alder was the ‘cool’ teacher or as my mum would say he was ‘down with the kids’. English was the only subject I actually managed to grasp as when I was writing my imagination could run wild and free and I wasn’t stuck in the same boundaries that Science created.
3:45pm fast approached meaning that detention would be hitting me in the face like a brick wall. After the last class finished, I looked at my phone and quickly text my mum telling her I would be late, put my phone in my pocket and proceeded to the Science block. I peered through the glass in the door, it wasn’t just me and Miss Strong (thankfully) but this is where anyone who got detention in a Science class today came – from the first years to the eldest. I opened the door and Miss Strong pounced on me…
“Glad you managed to find your way back Jessica, I was worried you may have dozed off in you last lesson”
I ignored her attempt at being funny. Some of the younger kids sniggered at me.
I saw down at the first empty table I spotted, not at the back or the front directly in the middle. I didn’t want any unnecessary attention.
“Right, Liam and Scott you can turn to page 12 of your Science books and do the questions”
Liam and Scott two first years I think, looking at them they look kind of young I guess they must have been misbehaving together in class. They had been made to sit as far as possible away from each other.
“Shelby and Sarah you can get on with the essay paper for the Science project”
Shelby and Sarah or The Stacey Twins, identical twins who were in their final year of school, they were popular and beautiful and always would be in trouble just for the fun. Their parents were well to do so they didn’t need to work hard for good grades, they would be fine regardless.
“Jessica, you can re-do what we did in today’s lesson on your own, page 74 in your book”
“Yes Miss”
I pulled the science book and my note pad from my bag. Time to start clock watching.
As time passed, I lost all my concentration on the subject, I twiddled my pen between my fingers and doodled in my note book, Miss Strong had her head down marking what I can assume was homework and another teacher who I didn’t recognise in the corner doing the same.
I glanced out of the window, it was spring time and all the flowers were blooming, right outside the window there was a cherry blossom in full pink bloom. I watched as the wind gently swept away the petals from their branches…I turned back to my paper and started to draw a tree.
I heard a tap, thinking it was a branch hitting the window pane I turned again to look at the cherry tree. At that point I saw someone sat in the tree branch, he was maybe a little older than me, dressed in a blue suit with grey hair and a cheeky smile…I rubbed my eyes with disbelief and he was gone…I looked around checking if anyone else may have seen him but everyone else was looking down at their work…I definitely need to get more sleep.
“Right, you can go” Miss Strong said looking at her watch
“And I don’t want to see any of you in here again”
I stuffed my bag with my books and headed out. On my way out of the school I checked where the tree was, there was no one there and no trace of anyone being there.
I just decided to forget about the boy in blue and headed to the bus stop to catch the bus home.
