He didn't say my name. He called even called the assigned holidays already and I wasn't on that list.
I'm sure as heck not going to be a Chosen One!
I stared at my lap in devastation, tears already beginning to spill out of my eyes. A sob escaped my lips before I could hold it back, alerting Wendy-Ann. She turned to me, piercing a through my body with a glare.
"Stop crying! You're not the only one who was left out!" she whisper-growled.
"Huh?" I looked up at her with teary eyes. "You too?"
Well that cheers me up a bit.
She narrowed her blue eyes at me. "Don't get too happy about it! There's obviously something wrong here if I didn't get assigned. They still have to mention the Chosen ones too!"
I nodded stiffly, internally snickering that at least I wasn't the only one. When I focused on her again, Wendy-Ann had an almost terrified look on her face, but she wasn't looking at me but rather behind me.
I glanced in the same direction, curiosity gripping me. Her eyes were locked on her parents, both of whom had stoic expressions and folded arms. That's how they usually looked when I saw them, always composed and unreadable. They are somewhat nice to me sometimes but that was the few times they actually showed up to any school events.
However, before I could analyze them further, Lord Solaris spoke up again forcing me to turn my attention back to the front.
"Now students! It's time for our main segment! The assignment of the Chosen Ones!"
The room erupted with excited cheers.
"As most, if not, all of you know that the Chosen Ones are the seven special individuals who will be tasked with controlling our sister planet, Earth. From controlling something as simple as the weather to protecting the humans that dwell there from a distance, these seven will deal with it and more! So I welcome our past Chosen Ones on stage to hand over the reigns!" Lord Solaris announced as six persons stood up and went onstage.
I recognized them a little from the last five years. First, there was Sir Marco, who was assigned as Monday. I was still in middle school when he was Chosen but he looked the same as before. He had light red skin that wasn't much different from mine. His wavy, dark brown hair was combed back in an elegant way. His dark green eyes were as serious as I remember, a trait that Mondays were known for. If I remember correctly, he should be 23 years old but he looked older somehow. I shrug it off as the stress of being Chosen.
Next was Lady Ari, who was assigned as Tuesday. Her name is said to originate from Earth where it represents grace and beauty. It suited her well because she seemed to move and look like one of those ballerinas I saw on Earth channels. Her light green skin looked almost like that of a Virdik despite being *Caerlik, her pale blue eyes complementing her long pitch black hair perfectly. However, like Sir Marco, she looked so tired. There were subtle bags protruding from her makeup and glasses which made me wonder how hard it must be to be a Chosen One.
Following behind her was Sir Wilbur, the current Wednesday. He, like many Wednesdays before, was a very calculating and it could be seen in how his dark brown eyes darted around the room, analyzing every movement in an almost paranoid manner. His violet skin was very unlike normal *Bruneks, looking more like a mix between pink and purple which was not surprising due to him being mixed race, similar many others. I chalked up his tiredness as paranoia due to the rumors that he was a very anxious person who barely slept even before he was Chosen.
Next was Lady Terra, the current Thursday who strutted confidently behind Sir Wilbur. She is one of the most loved among all of them and it was hard not to see why. She was very social and kind to everyone. She was not a graceful beauty like Lady Ari but rather an aggressive one. There was no Kidemonas who could top her in combat. As for her appearance, besides being a little muscular, Lady Terra had lovely rosy skin, which was normal for a *Rodinos. She had hazel eyes and shoulder length red hair that suited her perfectly. Unlike the others, Lady Terra didn't seem tired at all. She had her arm around Sir Wilbur's neck while making,I assume, a joke from the way she laughed.
After her was Lady Felicia, the current Friday. She was the eldest of the Chosen Ones, being 27 years old, but still the most playful. She was the most controversial among the Weekians because previously flunked out of school which made adults question why she was even Chosen. However, the teenagers loved her because they seemed to see her as a role model that they didn't need to be great academically to succeed. Can't say I disagree. She had dark pink skin and dyed black hair with a some streaks of pink in it. In my opinion, Lady Felicia seemed more like the youngest rather than the oldest with her childish behavior but I found rather endearing than annoying like the adults. But she looked annoyed today rather than tired. Her arms were folded and she had a deep frown.
Wonder who managed to piss her off.
Finally there was Sir Samuel, the current Saturday. He was the most loved by the Earthlings for the fact that it was on the weekend, something that they really treasured along with the holidays. He was loved here as well and especially by his admirers...and I may be one of them. I can't help it though! Sir Samuel was really handsome, from his dark purple, chiseled chest and pretty boy face that seem crafted by Lord Solaris himself. He also had these light blue eyes that struck something in me. It also didn't help that he was very talented and sweet to everyone when he was in town. My cheeks heated a bit as he gave us a small smile so I slapped them to calm down.
Control yourself Tuli Lu! He's like 10 years older than you!
My thoughts successful calmed me down enough for me to notice that Sir Sasha was not present. He was the current Sunday but he was rarely ever seen. I've heard rumors that he didn't really like his position but I wonder why. Apparently, many specific groups on Earth tend to love Sunday because of their religion so why would he not enjoy the assignment.
Heck, I would gladly take the position from him even if I'm not that religious.
As I thought that, I sullenly remember that I haven't been assigned yet. A deep, sad sigh left my lips as I already picture myself sadly looking for work only to be constantly denied because I wasn't assigned there. Already feeling depressed, I get up to head to the bathroom, most likely to cry for half an hour if I'm being honest.
However, before I could stand up, I heard something I never dreamed of hearing in my life...
"...for the role of Tuesday, we have Tuli Lu!"
I stood up in shock along with Wendy-Ann, who had a gobsmacked look on her face.
"WHAT?!" we shouted.
Everyone's eyes turned to us and I immediately felt sick to my stomach. The air around me became quiet and I felt naked as their eyes seemed to pierce into my being, judging me harshly in their minds. Unconsciously, my left hand shakily raised to grip the dark blue fabric of my gown tightly as I tried to catch my breath.
Why are they looking at me like that?
I looked up at the stage where Lord Solaris' mouth was moving but I couldn't hear a word he was saying. My eyes glanced at Wendy-Ann who was still frozen with the same shocked expression with Rue and Kendall shaking her a little. I wanted to run away but before I could make a move I felt a hand hold my forearm in a gentle grip. Panicked, I snapped my head to them and was shocked to see Lady Ari, who was giving me a sympathetic smile.
"Don't worry, Tuli. I'll take you up there. Just focus on me, okay?" she said.
I still felt everyone's eyes on me but I tried to keep my gaze on her as she lightly pulled me out of the row, towards the stage. I took deep breaths as I looked up at the stage where Goddess Lunaris, Lord Solaris and the former Chosen Ones stood. Their gazes were upon me, even more piercing than the crowd's which made me grip Lady Ari's hand a tighter.
"S-sorry!" I said.
She shook her head a little. "It's fine, I was just like you when I was Chosen as well. Don't tell the others but I actually threw up right after the ceremony was over." she chuckled.
My eyebrows raised at that. "Really?"
She simply nodded. "Yes so it's okay to feel scared about all this. I'll be your guide after all."
I went to ask her what she meant but we had already got on stage. She let go of my hand and directed me to Lord Solaris who was standing in wait. Nervously, I swallowed before walking up to him and bowing.
"Lord Solaris."I said in respect.
"You can raise your head kid. No need to feel nervous." he said in an amused tone.
Shakily, I nodded and raise my head to look up at him. He was so much taller up close that I felt like I was staring up at a giant. Not to mention, he gave off this dominating aura that made me want to step away but I held my ground, not wanting to embarrass myself anymore than I already have. Eventually, Lord Solaris told me to close my eyes as he rested his hand on my head and I felt a surge go through me. It was warm and comforting, like a cup of hot chocolate on a cold day. It felt like it belonged within me so I welcomed the feeling. My head was immediately filled with a calming melody that seemed so familiar but also unheard of. Before I could try to place where I heard it, Lord Solaris called to me.
"You may open you eyes."
I obeyed and looked up at him again. I felt heat flood my cheeks as he gave me a wide, proud smile.
"Well done making it here Tuli Lu! You earned it." He congratulated, resting a hand on my left shoulder.
Unconsciously, I felt tears fill my eyes and trickle down my cheeks but I didn't try to stop them as I gave him a wide smile.
"Thank you!"
