Being in animation school, a significant amount of our schooling is group critiques. That being said, more often than not, people will give feedback that is of the exact opposite opinion of what you're going for. When that happens, you smile, you nod, and you thank them, but you take it all with a grain of salt. One of the most memorable examples was halfway through the semester, when I presented my film, someone decided that the main characters in my science fiction film, that was revolved entirely around the concept of robots, should not, in fact, be robots. Just because. Most critique can help us grow and learn! But stuff like this helps us learn how to smile and nod.
