In the stasis pod Lain was in a deep like slumber but it all felt like reality. She
opened her eyes looking around to see a cherry blossom tree. It was the only
thing that was around, everything else was just blank white space. Lain stood
up walking over to the tree.
“Please tell me that I didn’t die once they put me into that pod?”
Some petals from the cherry blossom fell to the ground. The place they fell
now stood people.
“Hello Lain. We are here to help you.”
Okay now this was getting weird Lain thought.
“So who are you all?”
They looked to one another then smiled.
“We were the wolf at one point in time. We came to you to help while you
slumber. It will be hard but each of us will help you in training.”
Letting out a sigh I walk over to them.
“So you were all the wolf at one time and Carson killed you?”
They gave a smile which confirmed my thoughts. If they were going to teach
me that would mean the wolf would vanish before I leave this stasis. It was a
bittersweet feeling since he did help me but at the same time we kind of
clashed.
One of the women walk over placing a hand on my shoulder.
“I do understand that it is bittersweet. Trust me we all wanted to be able
to end this...we have faith you will be the one to do what we couldn’t.”
Was this supposed to make me feel any better. My mind was in a million
different places at the moment. My main worry was the kids and Thaddeus.
If Carson found them would she hurt them or let them go free? I knew in this
stasis their was nothing I could do to help.
“Alright enough of this sucking up shit. You’re here to train me. I don’t
need pity right now.”
They all smiled looking to one another. The woman closest to mean swung at
me with such speed that I flew into the blank white space. It had felt like a
flying car rammed me at full speed. Each of the others came at me not
holding back. Every attack felt worse then the last. They weren’t going easy
on me which is exactly what I wanted.
Out in the real world Julia walked to the stasis pod just touching it. Her men
could tell there was something that she didn’t tell them. Her second in
command came over placing a hand on her shoulder.
“Boss what is the deal with her and you?”
Julia turned to him giving one of her faint smiles.
“Long story short I owe her mother my life. When I was a teenager my
father had beaten and raped me. He left me for dead in the woods. That is
when Lain’s mother found me. I couldn’t even barely open my eyes at the
time. When I woke up she was still there tending to my wounds.”
Her second in command rubbed his forehead letting out a sigh.
“Boss why couldn’t you have told us from the get go? You know we would
follow you into hell and high water.”
Julia patted his arm some just sitting down.
“You see Lain’s mother lived in a hidden village of wolves. They had been
hiding from the high Elder for a very long time. It had been so long that
people thought there were no more wolves. She told me her name was
Susanne. I spent the rest of my teens living in that village. When she
married I was her brides maid. Susanne had the first full blooded wolf in
over two hundred years. No one knew how she managed to give birth to a
full blood since she was half fox herself. When the village was found we
ran. Susanne made me swear to hide her child. It cost them their lives to
get Lain and I out of there. I placed her with a human I knew for a very
long time.”
The second sat down next to Julia just a little stunned from the story.
Julia leans back looking to the ceiling some. She missed her friend so much. If
she could help just a little even her life was worth the cost.
“That is enough of the past for now. Just make sure to keep to our plans.”
He nodded leaving her alone there. Julia looked over once more smiling.
“You will become stronger just like they wanted. Please don’t ever lose your
spirit kid.”
In the small village Vergessene the trio had to stop for the night. They paid
for a small hut to use for the night. Thaddeus sat down looking to the fire.
He was wondering what Carson had in store for them all. Since she wanted to
taunt them there but be something she knew they didn’t. Kibo leaned over
poking him some in the side.
“Maybe we can help if you talk to us?”
Thaddeus looks up over at her. She did have a point maybe with more then
one person they could figure more things out.
“Carson has to know something we don’t. I’m trying to figure that out. Plus
she knew we had been on Bonhour some how. If she is tracking us then we
need to figure that out first to deal with that issue. We don’t want to lead
her right to Lain.”
Bren sat up thinking for a moment.
“Your her son so did she ever inject anything into you?”
Thaddeus leaned his head back letting out a sigh.
After a moment he looks over to Bren. He had an exhausted look to his face.
“She has injected me more times then I can count. I was used as a lab rat
for a while. Maybe there is something inside of me that I’m unaware of? If
that is the case then perhaps one of you can smell it out. If so then we can
cut it out of my body.”
Bren grimaced at the idea of cutting Stone up but knew they had to do
something. If this was the reason they were followed they really could lead
the one person who wanted Lain dead to her. Bren gets up walking over
sitting down in front of Thaddeus starting to smell him from his feet up. He
stopped at his heart when he smelled something strange. It had a different
smell then the rest of his body.
“Um...we can’t cut out your heart...”
Thaddeus looked to Bren with his eyes wide open.
“Of course that bitch would put it in the one place I can’t live without.”
He lets himself fall back onto the hard ground floor letting out an annoyed
sigh.
“If this is the case there is only one option. The one thing not even Carson
would think of me doing. We have to find an old Vampire. They will cut my
heart out; then soon as it is out let their blood pour into the open cavity.
That will create a new heart for me.”
Kibo stood up dumb founded for a moment.
“No! We can’t do that. It is too dangerous. What if it fails? We can’t risk
that.”
Thaddeus leans back up slightly looking to her face, it had become scared.
He gives them a soft smile then leans up pulling Kibo into his arms.
“Calm down little one. It is our best option right now. I swore I would
protect you both. I can’t do anything if my mother can tract our every
movement. It is very risky but there is no other choice.”
Bren sat there just trying not to think of them losing Stone as well. Kibo
nuzzled her face into his chest crying a little.
“Don’t worry I promise we will do everything we can and I meant it.”
