It was a warm day. One of those, that you rarely ever have in late autumn, but appreciate a lot when they appear. Time started running towards the evening. For Kimberly it could run slower if someone would have asked her. While already in the Town Hall, waiting for her big moment, she could not help but feel anxious about the whole situation.
“Was it really a good idea to do this? Maybe i shouldn’t have come here.”
But there was no turning back now. She was here now, and she had to perform. On the other hand, it was very exciting.
“Will the people like me? I will give them my best performance.”
And then it was time to go. Standing in front of the crowd, Kimberly finally realized, what the number of people that followed her online, really meant. The Town Hall was filled. Up to the very last seat. A big amount of young people, but there were also a few older ones mixed in between the crowd. Stunned by all this expecting gazes, she didn’t know where to look, what to do. But she did not need too. The Host of the whole event, was taking up the microphone and proceeded to explain who she is, and started praising her in words, that made her blush. She did not want this. All this Shine, all this Fame. That was something she gladly let other people have. She just wanted to sing. After the introduction was done, it was finally her part. She stepped forward in front of the microphone. frightened but excited. She waited for the music to start and closed her eyes. Then she started to sing. It became dead silent in the town hall. No one dared to make a sound. Don’t interrupt this. As her voice echoed through the hall, she did not even notice, that all eyes were hanging on her lips, as if they were some treasure, one just had to gaze upon. She could not see all the faces, stunned in awe for what they were witnessing. She did not notice any of that. She was one with the song. Letting it flow from her deepest inner self. All the emotions, that the songwriter intended to get to the listener, were nearly visibly there, you could feel it. nearly grabbing it. This kept going for minutes. Until her first song was done. Kimberly finally arrived in the real world again. The song was over. Why was it silent? Did they not like the song? Why is no one saying anything? What was happening? She opened her eyes. Every single person in the audience, was sitting there. Still stunned by what they just were allowed to listen too. This went on for thirty seconds. While Kimberly already started feeling anxious, falling into her own thought, that this was a mistake, suddenly, applause was appearing. faintly from one side of the audience. And then it began to grow. People started standing up. Shouting, whistling, roaring. Cheers rang through the hall, like never heard before in this house. Now it was Kimberly’s turn to stand there in awe. Never had she thought, that people would react in such a way to her music. She did not know how to deal with it.
“What should i do?” she thought excited, yet completely confused. When the cheers finally started fading, she started focusing again. She was here to perform. And there were a lot of Songs still waiting to be heard. Two hours passed. Then the crowd started rushing out of the building. People talking to each other excitedly.
“I am so happy that i got a ticket for this concert,” a young man in a black coat said so another, who was apparently his friend.
“Yes me too. That was so much better that hearing it in a video.” the other answered. This or and other conversations, proclaiming the same message were happening all over in the crowd. The People loved Kimberly’s performance. Sitting inside Kimberly was tired. Happy, but tired. She was so happy that she agreed to perform life. It was an incredible experience. To bad, no one who was related to her could have heard it, she suddenly thought, then stopping that thought process at once.
“Stop being stupid,” she told herself. There are no relatives that would have cared anyway. So it is useless to think about it. A bit sad, but still excited from all the turmoil, she grabbed her stuff and went to go outside as well. On the back of the hall, so the crowd would not overrun her. The organizer had prepared small fences, to separate Kimberly from the crowd. As she walked outside she was still dazed, by all the people that were waiting for her outside, just to cheer. Everyone was watching Kimberly. No one noticed, the two people who were not their to cheer. One was a hooded figure, the face no visible, clothed in a big green coat. His hands in his pockets. Stepping from one leg on the other, as if he could not await something to happen. The other one, was not visible to the crowd. A sharp eye would have noticed his shadow on top of the building next to the crowd. But no one had eyes to look somewhere else but on the star of this evening. While she was still in happy thoughts, Kimberly started to walk slowly through the crowd. Thanking all the people for coming. Waving towards them. But the further she went, the faster she started going. She didn’t like this. The adrenaline and excitement started to fade. And her inborn fear of people started taking the upper hand. She wanted to get away from here. No one noticed the evil grin in the face of the green hooded man. No one paid him any attention. So no one took note of him, taking an object with a metallic gleam out of his pocket. He rushed to the front of the crowd. Pushing people aside. Suddenly he was noticed. A Shout in terror went through the crowd as they saw, that the thing in his hands was a gun. Kimberly turned her head, just in time to see the gun pointed towards her. There was nowhere to hide. Nowhere to run. Wherever one would try to run from a gun. She looked at the person. An evil grin on his face. Nearly Maddening. The guy had dark brown hair. His eyes gleaming in a green color from below his hood.
“Hello Sweety.”
It sounded more like a threat, than a greeting.
“You refused to be mine. You even got the police to catch me. But i'm not that easy to get away from. No one ever gets away from me! And you won't either. If you cannot be mine, you shall be no ones. So tell me sweety. Will you belong to me?”
His voice changed into a higher pitch.
“He is completely crazy,” Kimberly thought, while her mind tried to find a way out of this. Without dying of course.
“Well i don’t think a person can belong to anyone,” she said, calm, trying to get him into a conversation. Who knows. buying time could only help. Someone surely would come to help. right? The shadow on the house cursed. How did this situation came to be.
“He really dares to use his power openly…”
The shadow cursed again. Still no one noticing his presence. Die he really have to step in here? It was dangerous to do it infront of other people. And above all, it was forbidden. He had to stop that maniac before he did something irrevocable. But how? He was at least a hundred meters away from a direct line of sight. This would prove to be problematic. Why was it always him, that had to deal with this crap. Oh right. Because he chose to. The shadow sighted.
“Wrong answer.”
The man said. pulling the trigger.
BANG!
The Gunshot echoing through the air. Thoughts rushed through Kimberly’s head. Faster than anything she could grasp. As she was fighting with herself. With the unfairness of the world. Of this Situation. Time slowed down for her. All the anguish overwhelming her. If she had the time she would be crying right now. Begging, that the man would not shoot. But nothing like that was possible anymore.
“It is so ironic.” she said to herself.
“No one ever wants to think about, how their life will end. And yet, when it comes to that, one does not even know what to think…”
Deep in this thought, she thought by herself:
“People say that in their greatest pain and anguish, their true inner self will be visible. But if i think about it. Listen into my deepest inner self… There is only… Silence.”
Time started to rush faster, the bullet started moving again. She felt the impact. her eyes closing, while she was falling backwards. While she started to sink into the cold hands of unconsciousness, her last thought was:
“Silence…”
The shadow on top of the building did not just watch. With another curse on his lips he stepped on the edge of the building. If someone would have watched him. he would have seen a faint light of silver being visible in his eyes.
“You will regret this. I will make you pay for this,” he hissed between his teeth.
“Because of you, i have to break the rules again… I just hope, no one will see me, that way i did not break any rule.”
With these words, the shadow took a step over the edge of the building. Falling towards the ground.
Or was he…. flying?
