When I woke up that morning, I wasn't thinking that hard about anything. I sat up and blankly stared at the trophies that littered my bedroom walls. At some point, I forgot what they were all for and instead just regarded them as useless decorations.
Eventually, I got off my large bed and looked at my calendar. A small smile touched my lips when I noticed that it was 26th December, the day of graduation. I touched the date shortly and allowed my smile to widen as I began to get ready for the day ahead of me.
After taking a bath and brushing my teeth, I began to comb my dual dyed hair. While I was finished, my phone rang. I picked it up and looked at the ID. A warm feeling filled me when I saw that it was one of my best friends.
"Hey, Rue." I greeted.
There was some shuffling on the phone before she answered. "Hey Wendy! You excited for grads?"
"I guess, we should head to the arcade after I get Chosen." I hold my phone between my head and shoulder before I start to put on some make up.
I heard Rue sigh. "You're really determined on that. There's nothing wrong with getting a normal job, y'know."
A frown found it's way to my lips. "It's...the only way to make them actually care. They are actually planning to show up this time."
"Wend-"
I was startled at a knock on my door to the point that I dropped my phone. I grimaced at the sound of it hitting the ground and cracking open.
"Sh*t..." I pinch the bridge of my nose.
There was another knock so I decided to leave it for now and answer the door. I already knew it was our cleaner so I didn't bother to school my expression.
"Yes Penni?" I greeted sourly.
She gave me a sweet smile. "Breakfast is ready! I made your favorite to celebrate your graduation!" she said cheerfully.
Penni was a middle aged woman who had been working for us for as long as I can remember. She has light green skin and was very short. She was also the only person who worked here and she did pretty much everything. From the cooking to the cleaning to the laundry, she was always doing something. Sometimes I would volunteer to help her but she'd always refuse, saying that she liked doing things for us. Penni was basically the one who raised me.
I gave a weak smile back. "Thanks. I'll be down in a few."
She nodded before heading down the stairs.
Sighing, I close my door and looked at my broken phone, knowing the screen was definitely cracked. But I felt a smile come to my lips when I picked it up and saw I was correct. There was a small but surely damaging crack in the middle of the screen, making my smile turn into a smirk. I glance at my clock.
8:35 AM
I press a finger to my glossy lip. "If I start repairing it now that leaves 5 minutes for me to eat breakfast and fifteen minutes to get to school for grads preparation. I still have to account for the traffic though. But if I work on it while eating I kill two birds and save time to get to school but run the higher risk of making a mistake like spilling juice and destroying it completely. I could also work on the phone on my way to school but who's to say that I won't need an important tool at the last minute?" I brainstormed quickly, trying to think up the best solution.
"Hmmm...wait! I got it!"
...
"We're almost there miss Wendy-Ann!" I heard my driver, Paulis shout.
"Okay!" I replied, smiling widely at my fixed phone as I ate my peanut butter and salami sandwich.
The simplest solution was basically eat on the way! Wendy-Ann you genius!
...
Soon after, we arrived at my high school, Central Weekia Tech, a place I've been attending for five years now. A place that I now have to leave.
Thank god!
I frowned as I confidently strolled up the building's gate. A smile slid on my face, though, when I spotted my two best friends, Rue and Kendall. The three of us have been together since elementary school, where we first met. It started with us bonding over something we despised...or rather someone.
The two were leaning against the school's gate, chatting. Actually it seemed like Kendall was talking and Rue was simply nodding while she scrolled through her phone. I waved once I got close enough for Kendall to notice me.
The two were twins with Kendall being the younger one. Her skin was a light french rose color like Rue's. She was rather tall though, reaching about 6'1" which made her really popular with those clubs based on earthling sports. Her teal dyed hair reached her chin with her bangs covering her right eye, which was an emerald green. Her left ear was also pierced industrial style. She was a little obsessed with Earth's animation though.
"Wendy! I was just telling Rue about this cool anime started watching! It was about this introverted novelist who's parents died tragically! And-" she babbled.
I give her a skeptical look. "Isn't that how a lot of them are? They all seem to start the same way." I ask flippantly, waving at Rue.
What didn't expect was for the teal haired girl to grab me by the shoulders and shake me roughly.
"Let me finish! Let me finish!" she whined.
Starting to feel disoriented from the shaking, I tap her arms. "Okay! I'll listen! Just stop!" I beg.
The shaking instantly stopped and she pulled back to smile widely.
"As I was saying, he ends up meeting up a stray cat when he goes to visit his parents' graves and he ends up taking her home with him! It's so cute and funny! I was trying to convince Rue to watch it with me last night since she loves animals but she keeps turning me down!" she finishes with a whine.
It was then Rue decided to speak up. "How many times do I have to tell you I don't like animals?" she asked coldly.
We stared at her with unconvinced expressions.
"W-what?" she narrowed her eyes but anyone could see the pinkness of her cheeks.
Rue was the elder one. She was shorter than Kendall but definitely taller than me, reaching at approximately 5'6". Her lilac hair was held in it's usual low pigtails with the bangs falling over her left eye, which was the same as Kendall's. She had both of her ears pierced at the outer conch. Also despite all her denials, she adored animals.
"If you say so Rue." Kendall placed a hand on her shoulder.
The shorter sister nodded uneasily. "A-as long as you understand."
Her unease was proven required when the teal haired girl gave her a sly smirk. "I guess I can pretend that I didn't catch you fawning over 'Griffin Hatch-lings' Monthly' last night! Heehee!"
Rue paled. "T-t-that was just for animal studies class!"
"We finished that class like a year ago though. We're graduating too." I spoke up with a flat look.
She looked at me with a betrayed gaze. "W-Wendy you traitor!" she cried, making me chuckle.
"There's nothing wrong with liking animals though." I say.
The lilac haired girl grew quiet at that.
"Rue?" Kendall gave her a worried look.
Her sister frowned deeply. "It's nothing."
I reach a hand to her but as I got close, Kendall gasped making us look at her. The teal haired girl was pointing at the other side of the gate with a frown. I followed the direction and curled my hand into a fist when my eyes fell on an annoying familiar pink hair.
Remember when I said the three of us bonded over someone we hated? Well that person was currently trying to sneak into school unnoticed.
I narrow my eyes at her, already knowing that the twins were doing the same.
"Well well well, if it isn't Tulips!" I yell.
