At school, no one sits near the air-conditioner where you once sat. It's like the ghost of you sits there and we are all haunted by it.
Even though nothing is there.
We still go to the place between the forest and the school when the recess bell rings and allows us to go to a place to relax our minds. The teacher still haven't caught us in our area. I still lean against the green wire fence that divides the school from the mysterious forest we never explored.
Toby leans his body against the wall, except he sits down more often than he stands now. Shannon, who stood beside you and propped her body against the air-conditioner, now sits next to Diana on the large tree roots. Charlie comes everyday now that she's quit most of her in-school clubs, but she doesn't say anything.
In fact, no one really talks anymore.
Toby tries to start conversations, asking everyone about their day and if they were doing anything for the upcoming weekend. Shannon offers to take us to places that we've been to before; saying that we should go bowling next week or go to her house for a drink later.
But everyone will only answer with few words, and even Toby can't continue any conversation he starts. Plans that were beginning to take form are forgotten by the time the bell rings for us to go to class.
I think it's the guilt that made us this way.
