Louis slowly opened the gate, making sure to close it behind him on his way in. His eyes averted towards a big red sign, immediately catching his attention. It read “ NO ALPHAS ALLOWED. Only betas and omegas.” In a comic sans font. Either he was about to lie, or he would be forced to sleep on the streets. He just hoped that who ever he needed to speak too, was a beta, for the simple reason they can’t detect or sense alpha and omega pheromones. “So be it.” He mumbled.
He approached the communications and help/resource desk that lay out in the open, being one of the first things you see on your way here. A dark skinned woman, who is chunky and seemed to be much older than Louis, looked up at Louis.
“What can I do for you today? Or I can say this late at night, sugar?” She spoke in a sweet, comforting tone.
“I need a place to stay. At least for a couple of nights until I’m able to get back up on my feet.” Lupus said somewhat anxiously, as he tapped his index finger on the wooden desk; out of habit.
“Alright, and your name sir?”
“Louis” he replied.
“Full name, baby.”
Louis felt warm inside. Nothing felt better than an older woman of color calling you ‘sugar’ or ‘baby.’
“Louis Aabis, ma’am. And yours?” He asked her in return.
“My name is Dominique. Dominique Valentine, but you can call me Mrs.Val.” She smiled softly, as she began typing away on the hot pink laptop that lay on the desk, along with some other office supplies such as pencils, pens, highlighters, etc., she then spoke up, making eye contact with Louis. “I’m going to have you fill out some papers, so it’s safe for me to assume you’re either a beta or an omega, correct?”
“Y-yes Mrs.Val.” He felt somewhat guilty. If anything bad happens, Such as an omega going into heat or if his cover is blown, he can get into a lot of trouble. It’s best if he just lays low for the time being.
“Okay, so I’m going to need you to sign this contract.” Mrs.Val mentioned as she slid a few papers worth, over to Louis with a black gel pen. “It basically explains that you can stay with us for a maximum of 30 days, up until you can find a job. If you haven’t found one, you are out. But if you have, you can continue living here and contributing to this small community by paying small living expenses once you get your stuff together. Stuff like this ain’t free y’know, baby.”
“Alright.” Is all he could muster out of his mouth. Without hesitation, he signed the damned paper.
As he slid it back to Mrs.Val, she spoke. “Only wandering souls such as yourself, come around this late at night asking for assistan- OH MY GOD.” she gasped. “What happened to your hand??” Mrs.Val questioned with concern as she abruptly stood from her seat, gently gripping Louis’ hand.
Louis scratched the back of his head with his other hand, laughing it off awkwardly. “ I just uh…… FELL. that’s right, I fell.” He said. He’d rather make up some excuse then tell this woman he had a tantrum in a parking lot, which resulted in him injuring himself.
“Okay, once you’re done going over the rules and procedures, you can head down to the clinic.” she mentioned worriedly. “Hurry baby, lets go over this quickly so you can get that fixed.”
She grabbed the pile of papers and began reading aloud the rules and procedures to follow.
1) Fornication with other residents is strictly forbidden.
2) Breakfast is served at 7:30 am, lunch 12:00 pm, and dinner at 5:30 pm.
3) If you have any children staying with you, please inform staff members.
4) If you need assistance looking for a job, please speak to one of the staff members at the resource department.
5) Lights out is at 11 o’clock.
6) Must do at least 5 hours of community service within your 30 day stay.
And the list goes on up until rule number 25. Number 25 being "Alphas aren't allowed under any circumstance. Failure to abide by these rules will result in prosecution and legal action." Louis signed the paper once Mrs.Val finished speaking.
“It’s down the hall, to your left. And it’ll be the first door on the right. I’m not sure if the clinic doctor is in, so just help yourself to some antibiotics and bandages.”
“Thank you very much Mrs.Val.”
“Now you get a good night's rest and have a great night, dear. Sleep well.”
“You too.” He smiled, before walking off into the hallway. He realized that she probably won’t get much sleep because she’s currently doing the graveyard shift, so he most likely won’t see her when he wakes up; which made him feel a bit sad.
As he turned the corner while being lost in thought, he felt a hard bump slam into his chest. It startled him, taking him out of his good mood. Louis onto clenched his shirt, ready to snap at any moment.
His face softened when he realized the person was just as startled as he was.
