Asheron sought, tapping his finger lightly on the wooden table. He had once again found himself pulled into an "emergency meeting".
Not two weeks had passed and he was surrounded by the very Lord's and ladies he had said he wanted to avoid.
Asheron sighed inwardly. He wondered whose land someone wanted this time. Or maybe another long lost noble had shown up who he had to house.
"Now," Elmeese, who was sitting at the head of the table, began sweeping his eyes around the table. "It has recently come to my attention that someone has gone missing."
Hearing this everyone began to look around seeing if there was an empty seat anywhere.
"Don't bother looking. The person wasn't a noble.
"But she belonged to a noble! My lover, Veronica!"
It was Henry who spoke. He was the young Lord from the meeting about Vlad.
There was a short pause.
"Have you considered that possibility that she left you?" Someone said with a hint of a laugh in their voice.
"Left me! Do you know who I am?! I am a noble. Any normal vampire would be a fool to leave me. Veronica wasn't a fool. And she is missing and I demand there be an investigation!"
"Oh, you demand. Why should we use our expenses to help you find some nobody?"
Someone else said with a snare.
"Yeah, why don't you find her your self. Aren't you a 'noble'."
Laughter to rippled through the room.
Henry slammed his hands against the table and turned to Elmeese.
"All the common vampires and knowing humans knew Veronica was my lover and yet someone still chose to abduct her. They are clearly unafraid of the power of nobles. This could turn into a serious problem.
"Unafraid of the power of nobles or unafraid of you?"
More laughter went around the room.
Elmeese was silent through the whole ordeal stroking his chin.
"You're right."
Everyone was shocked except Henry who showed a delighted smile.
"In some way at least. Someone should go scope things out just in case. We don't associate with the common vampires much, but they should still fear us. A noble should go to shake them up a little and remind them of who we are."
The room fell silent. No one wanted that job.
Finally, after a long pause, a sweet voice spoke.
"If I may, I nominate Lord Asheron to go."
Asheron instantly felt a sense of deja Vu. Of course.
Rose smirked at him from the other side of the table.
"We all know what his family's 'profession' was before they were officially given a noble title."
All eyes turned to Asheron.
Asheron closed his eyes for a moment, cursing himself for his choice of words at the ball.
"That is...I am just a noble like everyone else here. Henry should do it since it's his lover who is missing." Asheron said slowly.
"It can't be me. They know me in that area. Not...saying that I associate with these common vampires, but whenever I went out with Veronica at that club 'Randells', people would recognize me. They would take this more seriously if it was a... different noble."
Asheron felt that the excuse was sorry, but the others seemed to disagree. They all nodded their heads in agreement.
"Then it's settled," Elmeese said standing up from his chair. "Lord Asheron, go to this club 'Randells'. See if there is any suspicious activity-"
"Find out what happened to Veronica!" Henry added.
"-And...I will also send some of my people to look around the area." Elmeese finished with a look at Henry.
Henry grinned happily and bowed at Elmeese.
Asheron could say nothing. It was already final.
For the first time in his life. He would go to a club.
