Lila had taken our orders, but Sagion had no clue what to order. After a long discussion with Lila about whether her chick or bacon sandwich was better, Alia ordered spaghetti for him. I was thankful, because I was starving, myself. As Lila disappeared into the kitchen, Eros nipped at my legs. I tensed, and clenched my jaw. If I hadn't, I might've screamed at a dog in the middle of a restaurant. Lila was an old friend. She had helped our pack when we were going through a rough patch. In return, we offered her protection, and she was part of our pack. We were made up mostly of Alphas and Betas. Of course there were some Omegas like Aloe and Sagion, but they were rare. Omegas were rare in general. Everyone in the pack was older than Sagion as well. We didn't take anyone younger than 18. As I learned, Sagion was 16. He hadn't even finished school when they took over. His old pack didn't have any other omegas either.
I noticed that I was staring at him, and he was looking at the ground blushing. Oh, great. He probably caught me. I mentally face-palmed, and looked away with my own crimson face. Alia was smirking at me, and I glared at her. I was about to say something, but Lila burst's through the two-way doors carrying two trays above her head. For as old as she was, she was still reckless and energetic.
She bounds over, one tray holding the drinks, the other holding three plates of food.
"I figured you six could share," it was directed to the mates as she put the contents down, leaving me and Sagion.
"I'll bring yours out shortly, sweetie," She smiled at Sagion, completely ignoring my presence. I didn't really expect anything else from her. It was a love-hate relationship with her. She really cares about me, but wont swallow her pride and admit that she like this 'ugly, womanizing ba$!@rd'. She really loves me, and would help me out with anything in a heartbeat. Even if she complained and teased for ages before actually doing it. Sagion still seemed dazed, and everyone was off in their own conversations. I clear my throat loudly, grabbing everyone's attention. Everyone but Sagion's, of course. He's still staring out the window, aweing at some horses that passed by.
Alia glared at me, angry that I interrupted her important conversations about some stupid fighting technique. I didn't care, jerking my head towards Sagion. He was still watching animals, not exactly horses, but animals. I smiled lightly, happy that he was enjoying this. I look back at Alia, who was still watching him with a small smile of her own. Everyone else was still confused.
"So, Sagion," I facepalmed, regretting mentioning anything, "Do you know what happened?" She was gonna start with a story, then start interrogating him. I know it. He looked so confused and suspicious. ignoring his instincts, he slowly shakes his head 'no', and Alia all but grins at the poor boy. I am so sorry, Sagion.
"Wanna hear the story?" Alia still has a grin in her face, and now few of the others have similar looks. How evil. Nonetheless, Sagion nods, obviously curious. Alia grins again, and Lila bounces over again. This time, she reads the mood and quietly sets our food down, wandering to another table. She was giving us space, and I rally wish she would have stayed.
"It all starts with our ancestors," I cringe, knowing this was always how she started the story, "Three generations ago. They were just our age. Stupid, bored, and gullible. As you should know, they were the rulers of the land. They were seen as gods, beings that held the greatest power to man; magic. Most say knowledge, but with magic, you have everything you need to know, and with knowledge all the best spells.
"Our great, great, great grandparents were very.... magical. They were also willing. They knew the burden that this gift came with. They had to defend it. So many of their people were blinded by greed; needing the satisfaction of power. However, the more they were rejected, the more they detested our ancestors for withholding the power. They started to hating our forms, harassing our blood whenever they showed their faces. Quickly, our blood began to grow angry. Angry and afraid. They were afraid for what was to be of their power if it was stolen. So, they punished the humans. Giving them the form they detested so, sharing their power. They sacrificed this tiny bit of power so that the humans might be satisfied.
"This only served in growing the humans greed. Our ancestors were not as stupid enough to make the same mistake twice, so they hid. They ran to the clouds, the sea, the forests, and volcanoes. They hoped that the humans would not be able to follow them, and they were correct. They left them be, leaving them to die in the desolate refuges. Some of the places came to be sanctuaries, like heaven, and Atlantis. Others were known as the Underworld, and Wistman's wood. they are believed to be the true resting places of the remaining magic. We," she swept her hand around the table, gesturing to all of us, "Were born to take the magic back, and make the sanctuaries collapse, and give the power back to our ancestors, so that we can return to our old life."
"Wait, if this has been going on for years, how come it's acting up right now?" I feel terrible for Sagion. He shouldn't have to find out like this.
"Because of you, beautiful," I tried to make my voice soft, not wanting to scare or worry him. He looks over at me, looking even more confused than earlier,
"Wh...what?"
"You were awakened somehow, love," He seems so scared, I regret bringing him here in the first time.
