The days after they had shared their names, they kept talking together, it really helped Katie, Luke was so good at helping her get through the times, when a new one was killed or tortured.
One day when the vampires came down to the cells, everyone was ordered to stand in a line in the hallway, Katie was really confused and so was all the others, no one knew what was going on or what was going to happen to them all.
Katie could feel Luke’s presence behind her, and it made her feel slightly more save.
A vampire walked down the line and roughly chained them, when he came to Katie, she couldn’t help but wince at his hard grib and the cold metal, that was wrapped around her hands.
After being chained, they were escorted by vampire guards to a mine.
“shwheatees grappresia Crimson Morgi.” said one of the vampire guards, who looked like he could be one of their generals.
Katie didn’t understand, what he said, so she leaned a bit closer to Luke and asked, “what did he say?”
“He said that we’re going to look for a gem called Crimson Morgi,” said Luke through gritted teeth, that had Katie a bit confused and she began to wonder what exactly, this Crimson Morgi was, Luke seemed to feel that she was even more confused now, and so he explained it in more detail, “the Crimson Morgi is a gem the vampires use in their weapons, they are able to store large amounts of magic in the gems, which they then use when fighting and that can give them a great upperhand.”
“So it really isn’t good, if they gets their hands on more of these gems?”
“Well that’s a way of putting it.”
Looking for the Crimson Morgi turned out to be more work, than Katie had expected especially since the vampires were watching them strictly, and they were quick to punish anyone, even if they did everything they were told and the air was filled with the screams of people being whipped all the time.
Katie’s attention had faltered a bit, she was tired and hungry, so she didn’t have a lot of energy and had a hard time concentrating.
Suddenly she screamed, she could feel a sharp burning pain on her back, something warm and wet started to run down, making her shirt cling to her back, her heart hammered in her chest and she was whipped again.
A vampire shouted something, she didn’t understand, but she felt the meaning behind it and hurried further into the mine looking for the gem.
Her back ached, it was worse than any other pain she had felt in her entire life, if she didn’t have a hard time concentrating before, she certainly had now, but she couldn’t stop looking, because if she did, the punishment would be much worse.
Just then her eyes caught something shiny hidden in a crack in the wall, at first Katie thought it was the gem, but at closer inspection it looked more like a bracelet, what the heck was a bracelet doing here thought Katie and reached her hand into the crack to pick up the bracelet.
It was hard to get hold of the bracelet, her fingers only brushed the rim of the bracelet, but after many tries, she finally managed to get a hold of it, she pulled her hand slowly out of the crack and looked at the bracelet.
It was beautiful, breathtaking, decorated with small markings and small red gems, Katie let her fingers glide over the decorations, before she slipped it around her hand, just above the chains, what she hadn’t expected, was that as soon as is was around her arm, it shrunk around her wrist and began shining and the mine began to shake.
A terrifying roar could be heard and it sounded like it came from deeper in the mountain they were in, Katie could hear footsteps running and she saw a lot of vampires running deeper in the mountain right were the roar came from.
There were a lot of shouting, the vampires shouted back and forth.
From the tunnel that led in to the heart of the mountain, came stomps that echoed throughout the mine, just the sound of these stomps, sent shivers down Katie’s spine.
It didn’t take long before you could see the owner of the roar and stomps, it was a giant lion, with a mane of flames, long sharp claws and blood red eyes, that looked like they could see right through you.
The lions eyes fell on Katie, and she was completely paralyzed, just as the lions eyes had fallen on her, so had the vampires, they started talking heated to each other, they also started to shout at her, but she didn’t understand what they said, but at some point it became clear that they were interested in the bracelet.
Katie looked at the bracelet on her arm and could feel it tucking her towards the giant lion, then a vampire suddenly appeared in front of her, he grabbed her arm and tried to take of the bracelet, but just as he touched it, the lion roared and jumped forward to attack, that was when chaos broke loose, prisoners ran for their lives, as well as vampires who tried to stop them, some vampires even tried to stop the lion, Katie was completely paralyzed from fear and could only stand and watch, as people fell for the almighty jaw and claws the lion had.
A hand landed on Katie’s shoulder, she jumped and whirled around, fearing that it was one of the vampires, but the one in front of her was Luke, he quickly grabbed her arm and started to run dragging her away, “you have to get out of here, while the vampires are distracted, or they are gonna come for you, because of your bracelet,” shouted Luke to her as they ran through the mine, past prisoners and vampires alike, Katie put two and two together and realised that the lion most likely had something to do with the bracelet.
Some vampires had noticed them and were coming after them, Luke had seen this and decided to take action, “Okay Katie, you have to run as far away as you can and as fast, and I’m going to try and buy you some time, so don’t worry about me and just run!” Said Luke a bit out of breath.
He let go of her hand and turned around facing the vampires, “now RUN!”
And so Katie did, she ran out of the mine and into the forest, her heart was hammering and she was gasping for air, her legs hurt, but she kept on running, she cried, she could feel the hot tears streaming down her face, she was worried about Luke, but she couldn’t do anything to help.
Katie didn’t know how far she had run or if it was far enough, but her back was hurting now that the fear and adrenaline was out of her blood, her clothes was stuck to her body because of the blood and the sweat, she couldn’t really see anything since it was dark, so she stumbled into a tree and slid down to the ground, there she could feel her consciousness slowly slipping, most likely because of the blood loss, she didn’t get to do more, before she blacked out.
