Suddenly, I could hear things being thrown around down the hallway. I knew this would happen eventually, I panicked. Sometimes a wish never comes true. Momma gasped in response to the loud sounds, she turned to the table and placed my cake on it. “I knew this would happen again,” Momma said, she looked at me and then Jamie. “Call the police,” she demanded, she was about to enter the hallway, but she paused and said, “And don’t come back here.” She continued making her way into the hallway I could hear her yelling at the two saying, “stop fighting,” and such. The only thing I can do is worry about Momma and Daddy getting hurt, or even worse, getting killed. I’m unexpectedly on my knees crying and wheezing Salina was trying to calm me down before I have an asthma attack.
I look at Jamie calling the police with his phone as I’m hyperventilating uncontrollably. My body froze in place for I couldn’t move because of all the shock that’s traveling throughout my body. “Hello, 9-1-1? Yes, I would like to report a domestic violence case.” But before Jamie could continue calling the cops, I hear a loud gunshot go off inside of the house. The first thing I hear is Salina screaming in horror, she yanked her hands off me and they landed on the top of her head. She was looking at Jamie, so I turned to look at him as well, and I was broken. My heart dropped all the way down to my stomach, my eyes widened, and my mouth dropped. I started screaming and crying too.
Jamie had got shot right in the middle of his forehead, he laid there on the living room carpet with his eyes halfway open. I crawled toward him slowly and I lifted his head up to the point where I could hug it. “No! Not Jamie,” Salina muttered as she dropped down on her knees and planted her face into the carpet. There was blood on the carpet, like before. It was in the same placement too. It was as if I had a vision a while ago, like I knew this was going to happen. William had killed his own nephew. I felt as if I couldn’t breathe because of how hard I was crying. Before I could say anything else, I hear another gunshot go off and this time, I see Salina fall to the floor. Blood started flooding out of her neck as it soaked into the carpet. I’m sitting here, terrified. I don’t even know what to do, I was frozen in place like last time. There was nothing I could do.
Questions are popping up in my head. Why is this happening, and why did I think this wasn’t going to happen. I knew from the start that they were not going to get along, you could tell by the expression on William’s face toward Daddy.
Speaking of Daddy, he stumbled his way out of the hallway and fell onto the floor about a foot away from me. “Daddy, are you okay?” I asked in a low tone as he grimaced in pain, I looked at his left leg to see him firmly grasping it. My breath shook as I spoke, “What’s wrong? Hang on let me help you.” I bend down on my knee and grabbed Daddy’s hand; I pulled it off his wound and put it aside. Soon enough, the blood started pouring out of his leg. I turn to look at Daddy’s face, he was sweating and wincing; he was obviously in pain and he couldn’t move his leg.
“Daddy, tell me what happened!” I yelled as he was gasping for air, but he replied. “He shot me. He shot me!” I shook my head in shame. To see my father like this, on the floor wounded, it breaks my heart. A tear was making its way down my cheek, but Daddy’s finger stopped it from doing so, he wiped the tear away, smiling at me. “You’ll be fine on your own,” he said with the most serious tone I’ve ever heard coming from him. I couldn’t believe what I was hearing, he would never say that unless he was in a dire situation. This is a dire situation. “No,” I muttered under my breath, I don’t know what to do other than cry. “No. No I won’t Daddy. I can’t live on without any of you. Please don’t leave!” His mouth opened to say something else but in an instant, he was shot in the head. His head drooped to the side and his now dull eyes stared out into the kitchen. His mouth stood open a little bit as well. I screamed out more than ever; now Daddy’s gone too. I stood there on my knees and bawled to myself, no one else was here to help. I was stuck. I couldn’t call for help because I don’t have a phone of my own to do so. We didn’t have house phone or anything.
The gunshot rung in my head repeatedly. It was nonstop. After three minutes of ringing in my ear, I finally hear some bells or ringtone. Behind me was Jamie’s phone ringing wildly and uncontrollably. Squinting my eyes, I was able to read the name of the caller. It’s Jazmine, Jamie’s girlfriend. I immediately grabbed the phone, still crying, and I pushed the green button which answered the call. I could hear shuffling in the background, I start the conversation off with a “hello.” Jazmine said hello in return but in a confused tone as if she never heard my voice before. “Hi, this is Susie. Jamie’s sister. I need your help,” she replied with a scoff and says, “okay, stop playing around. I want to talk to Jamie.”
I groan and looked at Jamie; crying, I tell her the bad news. “Um, Jamie can’t answer the phone right now,” I sniffled and wiped my tears away. “Uh, he’s dead. He’s dead Jazmine.” I tried my best to lie about it, but I decided to just tell her the truth. As straight forward as it is, she didn’t buy it. The only thing I could hear was the sound of her forced laughter; it made me mad that she doesn’t believe anything I’m saying. “This isn’t a joke, he is dead!” Her laughing continued, it almost made me feel nauseous just listening to the obnoxious laughter. Though I was repeatedly telling the truth, she hung up. I threw the phone onto the ground with vigorous anger and rage, I heard it crack in the process. My breathing quickened; I was obviously getting frustrated. I can’t let my anger overtake me, I only must worry about Momma and William Jay. Momma is the one that’s still back there in the hallway, I get up and stood right on my feet and I made my way down the hallway slowly and steadily. I stayed silent and on the right wall. I was breathing too hard so I would hold my breath every seven seconds.
But before I could go any further, I was stopped by a tall shadow. I already knew what was to come of me, so I stood still and waited until the shadow touched me. Soon enough, I could feel a hand touch my left shoulder and a cackle is what I receive from it. Shaking, I look up and made eye contact with the monster himself. His face was covered in blood, and his smile reflected all the light that was flashing on it. “Well, well, well. Looks like it’s just me and you. You don’t have to worry about choosing between the two of us. He's gone now.” A tear fell down my cheek, the sweat crawled down my face nonstop; he stared deep into my soul with that evil grin of his. William’s grip on my shoulder had gotten tighter and with that, he slammed my back against the wall making me gasp at how strong the impact was. I was trapped, I didn’t know what to do.
