Throughout the middle of the day, they talked like an old friend that hasn't met for years. I held a knife firmly and swung it down on the closest zombie as we began to circle the minimarket and reduced the zombie so we can feel a little safer without worrying about the groaning that always close to us.
"You guys, please stop talking when we're in the middle of something. It's annoying." I swung again with less effort. And they complied as I cleaned the blood by swing it on empty air. Tyler shot the right side zombie and Andrew finished the last one by the back alley of the minimarket.
"Let's go back inside. It's getting dark." I called them out a few minutes later, they nodded before following me through the remains of what it called minimarket. The crashed cars, collapsed traffic light, didn't bother us. But what scares me is the lack of zombies in this area. Maybe it's because the spreadout not from our city, but actually the neighbor city, I caught a glimpse of smoke but decided to ignore it for awhile.
"Hey, Rere. If you don't mind me asking, why did you decide to stay here? I heard from a friend, there's a few evacuation zones not far from here. Why not going there?" I stopped and glanced at him.
"I never heard such a thing before, but what I know, this place is the safest place with enough supplies. So, why go there to share ours?" I said a little deeply.
"What matters to me is to get by in this stinking world and move on with my brother. Meeting you, it's a lucky coincidence. Isn't it?" He just nodded weakly and quietly followed again.
"It's getting late," I replied, staring at the evening light that started to disappear. Maybe, it's for the best to reinforce it here and my little brother who happens to never hurt anyone are very brave when it comes facing zombies. I guess our circumstances or you could say, this apocalypse really changes people.
The three of us came to the second floor again. We split up to get a decent rest. Andrew, with so much knowledge of the situation surrounding the apocalypse even after four days have gone by, helped us understand not to trust many people. Well... to be exact, Tyler still reluctant to accept it. Who wouldn't? When someone needs help, you can't just blatantly ignore them. And Tyler here, his feelings beats all the other brain part to think logically.
I turned and looked at his form, he was so worn out from the fighting. Sweating, tired eyes, sagged breathing, he coughed a few times. I gave him a water bottle and he gulped it down instantly.
"You did well," I assured him, "You helped us by noticing them quickly. If it weren't for you, we wouldn't have gotten this far. Rest up, okay?" He nodded and slouched down the sofa besides me.
Meanwhile, me and Andrew still not tired, but I guessed our minds are. With what's happening, we still need to think of our next step. Food, water and weapon supply, I guessed we got that covered here. Of course, I didn't take Andrew supply, but I still asked him if he needs more. He just shrugged and said that it's enough for three days. It's amazing how he can calculate his spendings.
Andrew walked over to me and sat besides the bean bag chair which conveniently, lays there. I guess the staff here must really like to laze around. So many pillow, bean bag chair and sofa. Really? How come the owner did not notice this?
"Is he alright?" He asked me, though his eyes focused elsewhere, my brother.
"He'll be fine, he just needs some rest. He's tired from fighting them so I guess he doesn't need any meds or anything." He simply nodded and closed his eyes without further question. Well... it's not my place to tell that Tyler not just tired from the fighting, but also from the things inside him. Who wouldn't? He focused on two things at the same times, of course it would exhaust him.
I guess today was okay. Sometimes I hope this nightmare would end but, fate seemed to hate my guts more.
