When I finally woke up, it was to someone violently shaking me while calling out my name. slowly opening my eyes, the blurred world began to clear as my eyes focused to the early morning mist. Sitting up, I looked at the Person who had shaken me awake. I was looking up into the strong face of Andromeda, Shae’s wife.
“Milo!” The worry in her voice was prominent. “Are you okay? I found you lying here on the ground, did something happen? Did someone hurt you?” I just shook my head, slightly dazed. “Are you sure?” I nodded again, still a bit spacy. “I’m not too sure you are, I’m going to take you to my house and we’re going to see what’s wrong.”
Before I could even try to silently protest, Andromeda picked me up in her strong arms and leapt into the air.
The view of the village from above was spectacular. It had been a long time since I had flown. My wings were severely damaged from that night two years prior. I shivered just thinking about it.
“You cold?” Andromeda asked. Now that she had mentioned it, I was freezing. I quickly nodded. “Then let’s get you wrapped in some warm blankets.”
When we arrived at her and Shae’s house, a very angry woman stepped out of the house just as we landed in front of it.
“Where the hell have you be-” her shout was stopped as soon as she saw me. Shivering, pale, and wet. A small gasp escaped her mouth as Shae covered it with her hands. “What happened to him?” she quickly stood aside as Andromeda walked inside carefully as not to hit my head against the door frame.
As she laid me down on the couch in the living room, Shae came bustling through with an armful of blankets. Setting the blankets down, Shae, reached her hand towards me to push my hair out of the way of my other eye. I instinctively flinched away from her hand. If she saw the scars, she would have questions, and I don’t want questions.
“Milo honey, you’ve got to let me check to see if you’ve got a fever. You should also take off the mask.” I shook my head, tears starting to form in the corner of my eye. “Milo.” Shae’s voice turned stern. Tears started to stream from my eye as I Shae pulled the mask from my face and pushed my long, dark bangs from my face.
