"MIldly mad" could be one way of saying that Eric is grieving a loss which is causing him cognitive dissonance. Eric's cognitive dissonance may be transient and once goes through the grieving process or finds something or someone to fill that void in his life, he may become right as rain. However, it seems Eric left behind she who met his need for companionship and went searching for, not peace, but a higher happiness. As has been said, "The worst enemy of good is better". Eric is a chronic malcontent addicted to unhappiness and will probably be forever frenetically searching for the unfindable. Eric needs to have an epiphany, an illuminating revelation, that peace comes from within. As John Lennon sang, "I don't expect you to understand the kingdom of Heaven is in your hand." Godspeed, Eric!
Follow Eric through lamentation, confusion as well as astonishing encounterments on his thrillingly wondrous quest for peace, in the midst of a horridly confusing world.
