One day, at lunch.
“Hey Cecil, so do you wanna hang out tonight? There’s a new movie, and I think you’ll really like it.”
“ only if you tell me what every guy looks like!” Cecil giggled. “ What movie?”
“ you’ll see.” They continued to eat when a guy walked up to them, it was Jamil. Jamil was the boy that had caught Cecilia's ears. An Arab boy with such a smooth voice and this seductive way about him just drove Cecil crazy. She never told me Hope about it, it was kind of embarrassing for her.
“ Hey, I’m from the student council, and I was wondering if you guys would like to be a part of our talent show to raise money for”
“ look, we don’t do school functions, and we don’t-”
“ Wait a second, hope. let him finish, Go on.” the voice of an angel continued to ring in Cecil’s ear for the rest of the day, on the way home she, and hope ran into some trouble.
“ Oh, what do we have here? A handicapped, and a dike!” Emily S. The smartest girl in class since kindergarten, a lot about her has changed, but her smug way of talking stayed the same. Since we were kids Emily never really picked on others, but with the extra pressure of staying in the spotlight to be the all-American student was getting to her, it's that or peep pressure.
“ugh, what do you want queen of sticks.”
“ well i- wait, what? Queen. Of sticks?”
“ Yeah, you guys rule over all the sticks. I hear you carry them in your asses, no wonder you walk like that.” I could feel her eyes on me, and hope. The short silence told me hope hit a nerve.
“ Anyway, I heard some news about your little friend, Cecilia. You wanna hear?”
“ What about Cecil?” hope grunted, changing her stance for combat.
“ not her, I was talking to Cecil about YOU”
“ what?” hope he hesitated to try to figure out what it might have been.
“your little bodyguard has been acting very unprofessional, she-”
“ Shut up, Emily. I need to have a word with you, in private.” Hope drug Emily off with her, leaving Cecilia alone. The loneliness didn't last long though.
“ oh, Cecilia, right?” Jamil had seen Cecil standing alone, and felt the need to give her some company. Meanwhile, Emily was getting a good scolding from hope,
“ What the HECK do you think you're doing?”
“ I'm letting her know the truth of course.”
“ you already know the answer to that.”
“ Why do you feel the need to be such a-”
“ you say it, and it's bye-bye to the movies and any out-of-school activities for a month.”
“ you're not my mother.”
“ Trust me, I wouldn't want to be. Raising you must have been a handful.”
“ Well, not everyone can be rich, you snob.”
“ Being rich doesn't make me a snob-”
“ Just answer me this, why do you feel like you're so much better than us? It's money, and money doesn't last forever.” Emily let out a horrid laugh as hope waited for an answer,
“ You sweet child, I don't care about the money. What my father does has nothing to do with me, but what I care about is making your life a living hell. You think that just because you have a friend you can act tough, and bold the way you do?”
“ you got it all wrong!”
“ Oh, I know I don't! In fact, I found this-” she pulled out a small journal from her backpack. “ you dropped it in one of your classes, and the teacher asked me to return it to you.”
“ you sleazy-”
She flipped through the pages with an evil grin, “ some of the things written in here are so- what's the word?-”
“ private!?”
“ no, it's more dangerous to talk about daily.”
“ Look, just give back my book, and I won't pound you to death.”
“ Really now? You know I'm only a call away from your mother, and a conversation away from your complete removal in the school.”
“ why? What have I done to you?”
“ Nothing, and that's what bothers me. I don't want you here, and everyone else thinks so.”
“ not Cecil.”
“ not until she hears your secret, and I can guarantee it'll be everyone.”
Hope couldn't just stand by, and let Emily do this to her friendship with Cecilia. She pushed Emily to the ground as hard as possible, getting Emily's outfit dirty. She snatches her journal back and begins to run back to Cecil. Just as she came in sight of her she saw Cecil wasn't alone.
“ So Cecilia, what's with your friend? She seems kind of-”
“ what?” hope barked, “ go on, I wanna know what you think of me.”
“ hope, calm down-”
“ no! He thinks I'm a freak, just like everyone else!” hope gripped Cecilia’s hand, charging to her house. Cecil yelled for hope to slow down. They stopped once they reached the front door. Hope looks toward the neighborhood, only to see Emily slowly walking by with her phone to her ear.
“ Cecilia, there's something I have to tell you.”
“ What's wrong, hope?”
“ Let's go In first, okay.”
