Chapter 2: Memory
‘Huh, where, where am I? Ah, my head, what just happened?’
Violet woke up, his head in pain and his eyes barely able to make out the view of his room. All he could do was ask himself questions. He sat up in an arching position, rubbing his head, he looked around and noticed he was in his room.
‘Thank God, it was a nightmare, for once I’m actually happy it was a nightmare.’
“Whisper whisper”
“Whisper Whisper Whisper”
Hearing voices from beyond the door, he decided to see who it was. He tiptoed his way to the door slightly cracking it open. When he looked through the crack he noticed three shadows all standing in the doorway.
After focusing his eyes more she noticed that two of the shadows were his parents'. The other shadow seemed to be conversing with them. Violet wondered who it was this late at night.
Though the shadowy figure’s features were undefined he could clearly see its size. It was much larger than his parents since the being was outside the house, he saw how the shadows hight was above the door frame.
It’s broad shoulders and large arms were peculiar, the Elves didn’t have features that fit that description.
‘No, it’s an Orc!’
Violet in a somewhat panic flung the door wide open, the sound of the cracking door seemed to alert the shadow. It vanished out of sight before he could get a good look at the being, no Orc.
“What, who was that you guys were talking to?”
“Son, you're awake.”
“Sweetie, What happened did you have a nightmare?”
“Answer my question, don’t try to change the subject!”
“We weren’t talking to anyone, sweetie, we were just letting in some air.”
“Your mothers right, we weren’t talking to anyone, well anyone but to each other.”
Violet looked at his two parents who seemed to be hiding something.
“But I saw you guys talking to a shadow in the doorway.”
“We’re telling you we weren’t talking to anyone other than ourselves!“
“But I saw.. you .. guys....”
Before Violet could finish his remark, he fainted, falling to the hardwood floor.
The next morning he woke up the same way he did a couple of hours ago. He didn’t hear any voices this time though. He noticed it was around midday already and got dressed.
Though the figure he definitely saw last night was intriguing to him, he decided to dismiss it. He knew his parents would probably say it was all a dream and deny everything that happened that night.
—————
After that night the village didn’t have any problems with the Orcs that would usually come for their women. Usually, they would come every three weeks or month and try to take one or two women, but for the past couple of months since that night nothings happened. It’s as if the Orcs vanished.
————
No one knew they were smart enough to plan an attack. They weren’t strategic, they always used brute force.
The day when they all came, the entire horde of 30 or more Orcs, was unprecedented. After their attack, they left most of the homes in the village demolished and took as many girls as they could.
The Elves couldn’t fight back against so many Orcs, all they could do was run away. That what they did, they ran, as they ran some were captured. Though the Orcs never captured the men alive, Violet was the exception. They knocked out the women they caught and took them with them as they all then vanished into the forest.
