He pulls her by the arm and slams her to the wall in a quiet area of the train station, “What the hell do you think you’re doing?”
“B-baby, you’re sc-scaring me…” Haley replies, trembling.
“Don’t try to play cute! I saw what you were doing back there! Chatting up that stupid looking girl, playing all sweet with her!”
“I-I’m sorry baby! I just wanted to talk to her is all!” Haley puts her hands together and starts begging, “Please, please don’t get mad! I swear I won’t do it again!” She starts crying.
“Ok, ok, shut up already. Let’s go home, I’m starving.”
“Ok baby…”
----
I sit resting my head on my hand. I wonder if she’s ok...he seemed really angry with her. Maybe I crossed the line…? Ugh. I was feeling really guilty. I shouldn’t have flirted with her when her boyfriend was right there. I shook my head. It’s sad, but I can’t keep thinking about that anymore. What happened, happened and I won’t ever see her again anyway. Her lovely face, and those lips that I could kiss all day...sigh.
They finally get home. “What do you want to eat?” Asks Haley.
“Anything, just make me food.” He says.
“Alright...I mean. I’m not that good of a cook, remember? Maybe we should order food?”
He looks at her with a sharp glare. “You trying to keep spending my money?”
She begins to respond against what he said but looking into his eyes scare her. She closes her mouth and heads towards the kitchen, “Dinner will be ready in a minute…”
Haley takes out ingredients from the fridge and stares blankly at them. What in the world was she to cook? She had no real kitchen skills. Her mother was a drug addict always hopping from man to man, she never gave Haley the light of day or even taught her how to cook a simple egg.
“What are you doing? I’m hungry, hurry up!”
“Ok! I’m starting dinner now, it’ll just be a minute!”
Right now wasn’t the best time to anger him. He was hungry and if he didn’t get his food, Haley knew she would get the shorter end of the stick tonight. So she did what she could and threw ingredients together into a bowl. “A salad. No one can go wrong with a salad.” She thought. She even made a homemade dressing, thinking that he would appreciate her efforts. She brought out the plate to him. “Here you go! I’m sorry I took so long, I was making sure everything tasted good.”
“What the fuck is this?”
“Huh?” Haley stood there, frozen.
“I asked what the fuck is this? Am I fucking cow, do I eat fucking grass, huh?!”
“All passengers going to the airport please board on track 1. Again, all passengers going to the airport, please board on track 1.”
That’s me! I get up ready to go on my trip. I go down the stairs for track 1 but suddenly stop. I feel something weird. Something’s not right but...I can’t put my finger on it. All I can think about is Haley. I keep walking.
He throws the bowl at Haley and stands over her, preparing to hit her. “No! Please stop! Please!!!” Screams Haley as she crouches on the ground, her arms protecting her face.
I turn around, looking at the stairs. Something’s pulling me to them, but I don’t know what…
“That’s what you get bitch! Who do you think you are, huh?! You can’t even make me dinner! Do you think you’re irreplaceable? I can go find another one of you just outside you common looking bitch!” He yells.
Haley sobs. “I’m sorry…”
“The train headed to the airport is ready to leave. Final call for all passengers going to the airport.”
The voice on the intercom snapped me out of it. I take a deep breath, everything’s ok, it’s probably just my anxiety, and board the train to my month’s trip.
