“Okay get off at the next exit,” Eric warned from the passenger seat.
Miguel pulled into his small town of Geyserville, which happened to be where Elm lived, “How long is your commute in the morning?”
“About 30 minutes, before I drove it was less though. My parents are both reckless driver who speed.”
“Wow, that is a while though!”
“It’s not so bad, there are some really good programming on the local stations.”
“Have you heard 87.7 The Stream? With Daniel Wong?”
“Who would not listen to that amazing ass 80’s station!” Eric commented rhetorically.
“So true! I love when they play the end of a song,” Miguel started.
“And then people call in to guess the song!” Eric finished.
They looked at each other then started laughing, Miguel had to slow down so that he could safely merge off, while cracking up.
“Turn to the right. Okay the next light you go through, then make an immediate left.”
“Okay, would you remind me again right before, just in case.”
“Yeah sure!”
Eric and Miguel sat in a comfortable silence, having no problem in the closed environment.
“Okay, turn at this next one,” Eric said, as Miguel burped. “That was a truly spectacular belch.”
“Wow most people are bothered by burps!” Miguel said, shocked by Eric’s open mine.
“Why would I be? It is a natural thing. Everyone burps… unless something is wrong.”
Miguel laughed at how something so may would call weird Eric simply embraced. With a fond smile still gracing his lips, Miguel needed a reminder, “Do I turn here?”
“Yeah and then first left.”
“Okay, thanks.”
“It is the house with the overgrown apple tree, the one with the fence too.”
Miguel quickly parked and they grabbed their stuff from the car. Miguel and Eric walked up to the front door, entering Eric’s house. Before he went in, Miguel looked at the number on the side of the house, and saw Eric’s address.
The last bits of hope drained from Miguel, Eric really wasn’t Elm. That meant that more likely than not, Evan indeed was Elm. Miguel had known for a while, but the reality of it just came crashing down on him.
There was nothing truly wrong with Evan, he was fun to hangout with him, he just felt no physical draw, where as with Eric he felt the physical and mental draw, but it was not the man he loved.
Eric called to him, “What is so interesting over there?”
“Nothing, I am coming, sorry!”
“Slow poke~!”
“Oh, shush!”
“You can’t silence me fool!”
“Make me stag! I am Diaphenia!” Miguel yelled, by then near Eric in the kitchen.
Eric laughed, “Your Parks and Rec cringe level is too damn high!”
“How did you get that reference?”
“Oh come on! I know all Porks and Rec stuff!”
“I concede smarty pants!”
By this time Miguel leaned against the frame of the door, watching Eric pour some water into two glasses.
“Want food? Any preference of what?”
“That would be great, I have no preference for what though.”
“Good, you are getting an apple, with peanut butter and cheddar cheese.”
“Uh?”
“It’s really good I swear!”
“I’ll try it?” Miguel said, questioning how his friend liked something that sounded so odd.
Eric quickly sliced the apples, making quick work of them as he was rather experienced with a knife.
