We all shuffled into an elevator, they were big enough to fit ten people comfortably. One of the walls was covered in buttons for floors, but I didn’t see ours. I noticed a cog half in the wall and turned it. The button wall moved to show more floors.
“Wait go down, I saw 211.” Charles said. I went down until he pressed it then let go. The wheel continued to spin at a slow rate, showing that there were over seven hundred floors. Something told me that this was impossible but I ignored it, magic can do a lot of things.
“How’d you figure that out?” Wilden asked me.
“My great detective skills.” I joked, Wilden laughed. The sound was pleasant and made me smile. I would gladly make more jokes if it meant I could hear that more often.
“So, do you guys surf?” A boy named Josh asked randomly as we waited for the elevator to take us up. Understandably, it was taking a while.
“I don’t know, I’d like to think I was good at it.” Wilden asked. “Do you eat dogs?”
I laughed. It was a good comeback.
“You shouldn’t assume all Asians eat dogs. I don’t eat dogs.” Josh stated.
“Don’t assume all Australians surf.” I said to him. The joke was mean, I realised after a second and by laughing at it I had given Josh a reason to think of me as a demon.
He crossed his arms and pouted like a small child even though he was probably older than me. People snickered.
The elevator dinged and we all stepped out. I had no idea how but the hallway was nicer then the loungeroom/lobby. The ceiling was high and had gold trimming were it met the white walls, it was huge with only four doors on each side, eight in total. The first door in the hallway was open and showed the coolest room ever, a recreation room.
Through the door, I could see a very large tv surrounded with shelves upon shelves of DVDs, CDs, and videogames. The tv stand had several different consoles including an Xbox, PlayStation and Wii. There was a very large U-shaped leather couch with a coffee table in the middle. Behind the couch was a pool table and snack bar.
“How do they afford all this?” Daniel looked the most amazed by it.
“They probably have witches who conjured everything up.” Wilden answered.
“Cool!” Charles had run down to the end of the hallway while we all marvelled at the rec room. “Guys, we have a kitchen!” he called across to us, it was a long way from one end of the hallway to the other.
I teleported over there because I couldn’t be bothered to walk, it scared the crap out of Charles. The kitchen was amazing too, all I really cared about though was the fact that there was a huge fridge with every food you could ever want and the cupboards were filled with snacks.
“We’re going to get so fat.” Charles said from behind me.
I left everybody to look at the kitchen while I went back to the hallway and found room 6, my room. I was super happy that it was next to the kitchen. I put the key in the hole and turned it, the door opened noiselessly. I stepped in and my eyes went wide, this was the best kidnapping ever.
I couldn’t decide where to look. It was amazing. All the furniture was made of dark polished wood. The bed was huge, bigger than a king, with dark red curtains attached to the posts. There was one door which led to a bathroom with a shower in one corner, a very large mirror above the sink and a bath and toilet in the other corner. The other door led to a walk in wardrobe that was way too big with shelves and hanging racks all over the place, one wall was completely covered by a mirror like in ballet studios. Back in the room, there was a fancy desk with a mac computer on it and a lot of stationary and paper in the draws. On one side of the bed was a large empty shelf and on the other was a bedside table.
“Wow. What have I done to deserve this?” I asked myself as I walked around more. I discovered four large cardboard boxes next to the desk and I went to investigate. I figured that since this was my room, this would be my stuff as well.
I cut the tape with some scissors I found on the desk and opened them. The first box was full of clothes, clothes I didn’t remember wearing. I never realised I had enough clothes to fill a box. The second box contained books, right up to the top, all packed neatly together. Okay, I was an extreme book worm. The third contained a bunch of random stuff like socks and notepads and shoes and Knick Knacks, I found a little glass giraffe with gold spots covering it and put it on the bedside table next to a lamp, I could tell the object meant a lot to me but I couldn’t tell why. The forth box held a bunch of rolled up posters, and pictures of random people who I didn’t know. At the bottom of the box was six packets of blue tack. I unrolled a poster, it said fall out boy on it, I assumed it was a band I liked.
I walked back to the door and poked my head out. All the doors were now open, but the only room I could see into was number 7 where I saw Wilden going through a bunch of boxes like I was. I walked over and stood at the door. His room was exactly the same as mine.
“Do you have boxes too?” Wilden asked when he noticed me there.
“Yeah.”
“I can tell the stuff in these are mine but I don’t remember anything about them.” He told me.
“Yeah. Do you think we’ll be allowed to take the stuff out?” I asked for his opinion. I didn’t want to be the only one to do it.
“They’re in our rooms, so I think it would be fine.”
I went back into my room and took the clothes box into the wardrobe and started unpacking. The bareness of this room was unsettling me, it didn’t look right so I was eager to get everything out of the boxes. After I had all the clothes done, I unpacked the other boxes.
Eventually everything was unpacked, my walls were covered in posters, my shelf was filled with books and other random things like these figurines in boxes I had found at the bottom of the poster box, there were loads of those. My bed had the black sheets and doona I had found in one of the boxes and I had hung twinkle lights I found around all the posts of the bed.
I stepped back and admired my work. It looked more lived in now, but I still felt as if I was standing in someone else’s room and not my own.
“Your finished already? I’ve only unpacked two boxes and most of the other boys have only done there beds.” Wilden stood next to me and admired my work with me.
“It looks like a room now though.” I hoped I would get used to it here because from what I could tell I would be here for a while.
“By the way, Ms Lika is here, she said she’s going to answer our questions.” He said as he left my room and I followed.
We walked into the rec room where everybody sat on the couch and listened to Ms Lika who was standing in front of the tv. I sat next to Wilden and crossed my legs, the couch was too wide to put my legs over the side properly.
