"Ahh!" Lyssa cried out in pain.
"Stop, she's on our side." Joan got in the way, blocking Lyssa from Yancy and Bruiser.
"The hell she is," Yancy said.
"She is! We need her." Joan tried to reason.
"Lyssa come on," Bex tried to pull her to her feet.
"I can't move." Lyssa whimpered.
Bex inspected Lyssa's back and could hear a hissing sound. She knew she had to get the bullet out.
"I'm sorry, share your pain with me," Bex said.
Before Lyssa could process it, Bex jabbed her fingers into the hole and dug around for the bullet fragments.
Lyssa screamed in pain.
"Share it!" Bex ordered.
"Never!" Lyssa cried out.
"Please just listen, this vampire is on our side. She's our rat. She feeds us intel." Joan tried to explain.
"You know who that is? That's the red widow. I always wanted a red widow to add to my spider collection."
"You can't kill her!" Joan said.
"Out of our way!" Yancy pointed the gun at Joan.
"Come on, we can't help them now." Rooney pulled Joan away from the line of fire.
Bex had just pulled the bullet out when she felt a gun being shoved into the back of her head. She was pistol-whipped and it knocked her silly as she fell to the floor next to Lyssa. Bex tried to blink the spots out of her vision as she watched them pick up Lyssa and drag her away.
"No, stop!" Joan cried out.
"Let's get out of here, come on!" Rooney pulled Joan away.
Bruiser picked up Bex.
"We are gonna make you watch." He smiled.
"No! You'll kill her, they're bonded!" Joan cried out, tears now streaming down her face.
Yancy hooked Lyssa to the wall, literally, hanging her body on silver hooks. Lyssa cried out and so did Bex.
"Is that so?" Bruiser said.
"Please, don't kill her," Joan begged.
"Lie with the devil, die with the devil." The men said in unison.
"Shit," Rooney said.
Bex stared at Lyssa and knew it was time to do something. She couldn't always count on her friends to save her, she needed to be the one to do the saving now. She looked to Bruiser before she tackled him to the ground.
"What the hell!?" he complained.
Bex punched him in the face and grabbed the silver dagger from him, jamming it in his arm.
"Ahh!" he cried out.
The sound of a gunshot was followed by both Lyssa and Bex crying out in pain.
"Make another move and I put one in her skull," Yancy said.
Bex struggled to her feet and looked at Yancy.
"Drop it!" He ordered Bex who was now holding Bruiser's gun.
Bex clenched tighter to it.
"Drop it or I pop a cap in her ass!" he put the gun to Lyssa's head.
"Rebecca please." Lyssa tried.
Bex whimpered and then pointed the gun at Bruiser.
"You kill her, I kill him," she said.
The room got silent.
"Bullshit." Yancy finally said.
"Try me." Bex spat.
"The moment I put a bullet through her brains you are dead too."
"Not before I pull this trigger."
"You ain't got it in you."
"I'm going to die anyway," Bex said.
"Kill it, Yancy, this bitch is bluffing," Bruiser said.
"I'm not!" Bex shouted.
Yancy lowered the gun just a bit, laughing. That was all Bex needed. She raised the gun and shot him in the gut. He got silent in shock and fell on his butt.
Bex ran over to him and kicked the gun out of his hands before dropping her gun on the floor.
"Lyssa!" Bex struggled to get Lyssa unhooked.
While she was distracted Rooney went for the gun. She grabbed it with her good arm and pointed it at Lyssa.
"Look out!" Lyssa shouted.
Bex froze and turned around.
"Move, I want revenge," Rooney said.
"I told you she's psycho!" Bex shouted at Joan.
"Rooney stop!" Joan ran up to her.
"This bitch did this to me! Not to mention all that she's done to you and many others! She deserves to die."
"If you kill her, you kill Rebecca too!" Joan stood in the line of fire blocking Bex.
"That's her own fault."
"Don't do this," Joan begged.
Bex quickly went back to trying to help Lyssa free. She screamed when Yancy grabbed her leg. Bex kicked him in the face and knocked him out. Then she stood on his gut and used the extra height to help unhook Lyssa.
Lyssa crumbled to the floor and Bex quickly went to her.
"Quick, drink from me." Bex offered her arm.
A gunshot made Bex flinch as it landed in the dirt right next to them. Joan knocked the gun from Rooney's hand. Rooney quickly round housed kicked Joan and sent her flying. Joan crashed into a shelf of torcher devices. Rooney went for the other gun, but Bex was faster. She tackled Rooney to the ground and punched her in the face.
Rooney grunted and rolled Bex off of her. The two quickly got back to their feet.
"Give up, you can't win this," Bex said.
"Please, I could kick your ass with one arm tied behind my back, oh look. It's your lucky day."
Joan groaned and got to her feet just as Bruiser yanked the knife out of his arm and also stood up. Joan looked for the nearest weapon in a panic and grabbed a shovel. She whacked him hard in the head from behind, knocking him out.
Bex went in to punch Rooney but Rooney weaved in and out, dodging her attacks. Then Rooney kicked Bex in the chin, causing Bex to stumble back and nearly fall back. Rooney quickly capitalized by kicking Bex twice in the stomach.
Bex fell back and tripped over Lyssa.
Rooney bent down to pick up the gun, but Joan knocked her in the back of the head with a shovel. Knocking her out.
Joan sighed and let the shovel fall to the ground.
"Help over here," Lyssa grumbled as she picked a bullet out of her thigh.
"Ugh, man what is she, a black belt in karate?" Bex complained.
"Try a champion kickboxer." Joan kneeled down to help her up.
"You could have warned me." Bex rubbed her chin.
"You could, for once, not get us in a bunch of trouble." Joan sighed.
"Here, Lyssa drink." Bex offered Lyssa her arm.
Lyssa quickly bit down and took several greedy gulps. Bex sighed as the euphoria washed over her. When Lyssa was healed up, she pulled back. Leaving Bex woozy.
"I hate to say it, but I need both of you guys to help before these two wake up," Joan said.
"What?" Lyssa complained.
"I need you to help me clear this place out. Obviously, we will never be able to buy from them again so, we have to clean them out. I can't come back to the guild empty-handed. There would be too many questions. I can make Rooney keep her mouth shut, but coming back empty-handed would be a red flag that something happened."
Lyssa sighed and got to her feet, helping Bex up.
"Fine, but if you ever bring Rebecca to another place like this again, I will kill you myself," Lyssa growled.
"Noted, now come on."
Lyssa put some gloves on and all three of them quickly loaded up the van to max compacity. Clearing off the racks on the roof and boxes on the floor. Then Lyssa carried Rooney to the van and set her in the passenger seat.
Rooney started to wake up and the first thing she saw was Lyssa's red eyes before Lyssa knocked her out again by chopping her in the neck.
"Was that necessary?" Joan complained.
"It made me feel better." Lyssa shrugged.
Joan groaned before starting up the van.
"Coming?" Joan looked at Bex.
"I'll take her home," Lyssa said.
"Suit yourself," Joan said before driving off.
Bex hugged Lyssa tightly.
"I'm so sorry I called you here, I panicked and Joan wouldn't help, I was just so scared. I'm sorry. I'll never do that again."
"Shh, nonsense. You need me, you call me. No exceptions. Not even for this. I will always protect you, no matter what."
Bex sobbed into Lyssa and held her tighter.
"There is something I must do before I leave." Lyssa pulled back.
Bex looked at her then looked back at the barn.
"Are you going to kill them?"
"No, death is a mercy they don't deserve. I think I will handle this your way." Lyssa smirked.
Bex followed Lyssa back in and watched as Lyssa grabbed Yancy's phone from his pocket. Then she called 911. She used a perfect American accent to describe her daring escape from two serial killers, and how her friend wasn't so lucky. She gave the address and then hung up.
Bex and Lyssa walked away but Lyssa paused by the wall of vampire monikers. She ran her hand over the wood and Bex could feel her pain, as Lyssa recognized some of the names. Bex hugged Lyssa from behind and held her as Lyssa silently cried.
"Come, Rebecca, let's get out of here," Lyssa said.
Then she scooped Bex up into her arms and sped away.
When they got to Bex's house no one was home. Lyssa led Bex to her room.
"I'll be going now." Lyssa dropped Bex's hand.
"Wait!" Bex grabbed Lyssa's hand again, "Can you stay, at least until my parents get back? I don't want to be alone."
Lyssa nodded.
"I feel like I need a shower to wash off all the nasty of that place, do you mind?" Bex asked.
"Of course not, I shall wait here for you."
Bex smiled at her and kissed Lyssa on the cheek before grabbing some clothes and heading for the shower. Lyssa smiled after her and sighed before getting up to change into something less bloody and dirty.
'Just take a shower with me, not like I haven't seen you naked before' Bex said through their bond.
'Are you sure?'
'Yes, now come on, the water is warming up.'
Lyssa walked into the bathroom where Bex was already naked and brushing her teeth with the shower running in the background. Lyssa did her best not to stare and got undressed herself. Bex scrubbed her teeth extra hard, the haunting image of Yancy's teeth in her head. When she was satisfied she washed her mouth out and stepped into the shower with Lyssa.
"Let me look at your back," Bex ordered.
Lyssa turned around and grabbed the body wash. Bex's fingers felt the base of Lyssa's spine, checking for any imperfections. But like always, the vampire was good as new after feeding.
"Well," Lyssa asked.
"All good," Bex said.
"Thank you, Dr. Cross."
"Oh, you have jokes huh?" Bex playfully pushed Lyssa.
Lyssa giggled and threw a glob of body wash at Bex.
"Hey!" Bex giggled.
Lyssa laughed as Bex used that soap to start washing up.
"Keep staring and your eyes might fall out." Bex teased.
If Lyssa could blush she would be, Bex giggled after feeling her embarrassment. Lyssa smiled at her, feeling that familiar warmness in her heart. Bex quickly resumed her shower, feeling an ache inside of her as she wanted to kiss Lyssa but couldn't.
Lyssa felt that ache too and also quickly resumed her shower.
They bathed in silence after that, focusing on the task at hand. When Bex moved to get out of the shower she slipped but Lyssa caught her.
"Thanks," Bex smiled.
"Always." Lyssa smiled back.
They stared into each other eyes and Bex felt her tears welling up. She couldn't take it anymore, she leaned into to Lyssa and to her surprise Lyssa leaned in too. Their lips met in a kiss, a soft, almost painful kiss as both of them had been longing for it.
Bex sighed in relief and wrapped her arms around Lyssa's neck, deepening the kiss. Lyssa pulled Bex into her embrace, pressing their bodies close together as the showerhead spayed warm water on them.
Everything just felt so right with the universe. Both girls could do nothing to resist what happened next.
Lyssa kissed back hungrily, her arms squeezing Bex tight. Bex let her hands wander, sliding them slowly down Lyssa's spine and then even lower than that. Lyssa slammed her into the shower wall, Bex grunted in pain but moaned loudly when Lyssa nipped her in the neck and began to suckle her blood slowly.
"Lyssa..." Bex moaned.
Lyssa picked Bex up and sat her on her thigh. Bex quickly began to gyrate her hips and grind into Lyssa. Her breathing became shallow and she closed her eyes to enjoy the feeling. Lyssa pulled back and turned Bex around, slamming her against the wall so that Lyssa could bite her from behind and grind on her at the same time.
Bex's hand pushed hard against the frosted glass shower door and it was a good thing no one was in the house because her moans were so loud they could be heard downstairs.
Afterward, the two laid in Bex's bed and Lyssa rested her head on Bex's chest as Bex ran her fingers through Lyssa's hair. They were both completely relaxed.
"We had a slip." Bex pointed out.
"Emm, that we did."
"Does this mean—"
"No." Lyssa cut her off.
Bex felt pain in her chest but Lyssa soothed it away by moving and snuggling her head into the crook of Bex's neck.
"You know how I feel about you," Lyssa said.
"And you know how I feel about you."
"It's more complicated than that Rebecca and you know it. I have to distance myself from you, I am already too attached. I have to prepare myself for the day I will lose you. Be it old age, illness, or an accident. One day you will die, and I will have to watch it. As it stands now, there is no guarantee I wouldn't kill myself just to be with you in death. Distancing myself is the only thing I can do to stop that from happening."
"I hate that it has to be like this. I hate it."
"Me too my love, me too."
"Did you find out about the dreams?"
"No, but I'll keep looking I am sure the answer is there."
"I believe in you," Bex yawned.
"Sleep, my love. It's been a long day for you."
Bex didn't bother trying to fight it, with all that blood loss and fighting, not to mention their little slip, she was exhausted. As soon as she gave herself permission to, she was asleep in seconds.
Lyssa closed her eyes and clung tighter to Bex. Listening to the girl's heartbeat. Bex smiled in her sleep and wrapped her arms tighter around Lyssa.
