Gabe walked over putting an arm around me. His attempt at comfort after
laughing was almost annoying.
“Sorry for laughing. It is just a little surprising you’ve never been kissed.”
Really this is what you get out of Samuel forced a kiss on me? I stand up
wiping my eyes just stretching.
“Yeah so what I am a nineteen year old who just lost her first kiss. The fact
remains that Samuel forced it on me.”
We went inside to get out of the chilly wind. He sat down at the table just
rubbing his head slightly.
“I really don’t know what to tell you Katerina. I’ve never heard of Samuel
acting in this manner. He can be a real asshole but usually understands the
boundaries of a person.”
If he understood then it must be he didn’t care.
Letting out a sigh I pour some coffee for us. I needed to be composed when
Abel got home from school. It was nice that our neighbor had a son about his
age. She was nice enough to pick him up from school everyday. We sat there
in silence drinking the coffee when Abel walked in the door.
“Sissy, we went to the park today. It was so much fun.”
A smile came to my face seeing how excited he appeared. He ran over
tackling me in a hug. Moments like these made my heart feel full. Gabe
patted his head while looking at me.
“I’ll stop by some other time. If I am gone for a long time the wife might hit
me.”
Okay the thought of that had me laughing out loud. Abel laughed in my arms
having the same mental image probably. After he left the house went back to
normal. My brother kept bugging me some that day; like he knew something
happened.
In a club on the other side of town Samuel was drinking a glass of whiskey.
He watched as some girls were dancing. Although his men were eyeing them
like hungry wolves to the slaughter.
“Go have some fun if you want.”
His voice was cold as taking another sip of the drink. Some of the men
went over to the women. The others walked over making sure the club doors
were completely locked. They started dancing with the women slowly
stroking down their necks. A spray of red enters the air. The women scream
out as the men were tearing into their throats. The others in there ran to the
back part of the club. Their eyes changed to pitch black. Horns protruded
from their heads as wings out of their backs. Samuel looked to a woman
pleading with him for help. She was crawling towards Samuel for help.
“Worthless little creature why would I save you?”
Her tears mixed with blood as she collapsed to the floor. The men licked the
blood from their hands laughing.
“Boss, should we feed their remains to the dogs?”
Samuel stands up drinking the last of the whiskey. He glances down at the
remains smiling.
He gives them a nod walking to the door.
“Oh make sure to finish off the people in the back as well. We don’t want
all the humans to know about us.”
His men take off in a run as more screams are heard. Samuel takes a cigarette
out lighting it. He waits in a car as his men set the building on fire. Some of
the men had dragged the dead bodies out putting them in a van.
“Think the dogs will enjoy their meal tonight?”
One of the men laughs lifting the last of the bodies into the van. Quickly they
all got into the vehicle taking off behind Samuel’s car. They drove to a huge
estate that was surrounded by walls. It could have been mistaken for a prison
from the outside. At the end of the driveway was the old man Katerina met
the night of her date job. Samuel gets out of the car bowing to the old man.
“The wolves have got some fresh food in the van.”
The old man laughs patting him on the shoulder.
The men step out of the van as these huge wolves run up licking the blood
from their fingers. They sit down waiting for them to throw the bodies out of
the van. One by one the bodies are consumed leaving nothing behind. The
old man walks over petting one of the wolves. They were the size of a human
but looked solely like their smaller counterparts.
“You know what I love about these dogs? You can beat them and even take
the life from them. Yet they still remain loyal to you. They know who is
their master.”
Samuel lets out a sigh walking over to the man.
“You know in old age you are getting sentimental. David you would have
just said they wouldn’t dare disobey your orders before hand.”
He laughs at Samuel.
“Yeah you might be right my friend. I am well over two thousand years old.
Maybe my years are starting to catch up to me slowly.”
He walks next to Samuel going into the mansion. The men had to clean up
after the wolves which wasn’t their favorite task.
The wolves took off running soon as they saw the hose.
“Great another damn night of chasing the wolves. Why can’t they just let
us clean their asses up?”
The men grumbled aloud to themselves. Inside the mansion David and
Samuel sat in a parlor room smoking together.
“So tell me now what you plan to do with that girl?”
Samuel raised a brow to him.
“Damn even you are asking me this shit now. Does it really matter since
I’ve claimed her as my own. You wouldn’t do anything knowing this about
her.”
David took another hit of his cigar looking at his friend.
“You’re right I wouldn’t...but that doesn’t include the other clans. If you are
serious about this kid you better watch out for her.”
David stood up looking at a painting hanging on the wall. It was a young
woman in her mid twenties. She appears to be in seventeenth century
Chinese clothing.
“I don’t want you to have the same pain I went through. We might be
demons but even we are capable of loving another creature.”
He had an empty look in his eyes glancing at the painting again.
Samuel stands up walking out of the mansion. He knew what David said was
true. The other clans would figure out sooner or later his interest in
Katerina. They might not realize why he wanted her but it wouldn’t matter.
Letting out a frustrated sigh he stretches. David Followed him from the
mansion.
"Yeah I know they will try something sooner or later."
Samuel gives David a pat on the shoulder then leaves the estate, not even
realizing where he was heading. He found himself hiding in the shadows
watching her. Katerina was playing in the front yard with her brother. It
looked like they were having a water balloon fight. After a while they headed
inside which had Samuel move closer to the house. He could see her making
food for Abel.
“You really are a carefree child aren’t you. No matter what has been
thrown your way.”
He smirks leaving her home. In the house Abel looked up seeing a shadow. He
ran over to his sister.
“Calm down would you?”
Abel points to the window.
“There was something out there.”
Letting out a sigh I walk over looking out the window.
“Nothing is here now so don’t worry about it.”
Abel looked spook’ d so I picked him up cuddling. It looked like the cuddle did
the job.
We sit down eating lunch as I think of what could have been outside. There
was a familiar smell near the window. I just couldn’t place it at the moment.
When we finished eating Abel went to take a bath. I cleaned up the dishes
then went to the window again. The smell was still lingering. Where did I
know this scent from? It hit me hard the smell of Samuel as we danced that
night. What in the hell was he doing outside of our house? I grab my cell
phone calling Gabe. He actually picks up on the first ring which was rare.
“Look you need to tell Samuel to stay the hell away from me. He was
outside my house. Seriously is he some kind of stalker? Plus how the hell
did he find out where I live?”
Gabe looked at his wife with a shocked expression. She leans in listening to
the conversation.
“I really don’t know either. If I see him I’ll tell him off for you. You
shouldn’t have to deal with drama in your own home.”
I wasn’t worried about myself but Abel. If a gangster was hanging around my
house it only meant bad news.
A few days passed with nothing out of the ordinary. It was nice but I still
worried. Getting into work there was Gabe waiting for me. He looked worried
for some reason. As I walked up he was making me nervous.
“Um..Katerina there is someone over there who wants to see you.”
Looking in the direction he pointed I stopped in my tracks. It was the actual
leader of Samuel’s rival. What in the fucking hell was going on here? Taking a
deep breath I walk over sitting down at the table with the man.
“Can I help you with something? It must be important to come to my
workplace.”
The man looked me up and down. I presume he was trying to figure me out.
He leans over the table lifting my chin.
“I wonder what he sees in a child like you. To me you are nothing more
than an average teen.”
Guess I was correct this had to do with Samuel. Couldn’t I just get rid of that
asshole along with anything to do with him?
“Well I do admit that you have nice breast it looks like. As for your the rest
of your body it’s nothing special.”
Really you dick! Just because I wasn’t a slender little twig you make a remark
like that. I liked my medium build. It meant I could wear what I wanted but
still had a nice shape as well.
I smack his hand away standing up. If I wanted to deal with abuse I would've
stayed with my mother.
“Look I have nothing to do with Samuel. If he likes me oh fucking well.
Now would you please leave here? This is a workplace not a zoo to see wild
animals.”
The man stood up laughing. His eyes were cold walking closer to me.
“You really do have spunk I’ll give you that kid. But you shouldn’t dabble in
this world. You might get yourself killed.”
Gabe and I watch as he walks from the café after those words. I slumped to
the ground realizing how stupid I’d been. I really just gave attitude to a Gang
leader. Was I trying to sign my own death warrant? Gabe ran over helping me
into a chair.
“Girl are you out of your mind? He is known for killing people who piss
him off. You’ve got some damn angel working over time protecting your
ass.”
Sometimes I wish he wasn’t into the angel shit. If I had a guardian angel they
never showed up to work. He got a glass of water making me drink it.
My body felt numb, still just looking at the empty cup. All I wanted was to
give Abel a better life. Now with all the bullshit what was going to happen to
that life. Gabe walked back over with his wife. They gave me a hug just telling
me to go back home. On the walk back towards my house it felt like I was
missing something. There had to be a reason why everyone was so curious
about Samuel. It couldn’t just be that they were in rival gangs. Thinking about
this all was starting to give me a headache. Once home I toss my bag on the
floor just falling onto the couch. Silently I screamed into the couch pillow. It
didn’t do anything but help me feel better. Since I didn’t have to work I could
at least go pick up Abel today. It would be nice to see his smiling face. When
it was close to school being out I headed over to pick him up. As he walked
out of the school a huge smile came across his face.
‘Sissy!”
He ran over knocking me down. It had been a while since I’d come to pick
him up. I’d not realized how much it meant to him till just now.
Walking back towards our house I stopped suddenly. Standing on the side of
the road was Samuel. Quickly I take Abel down a side road to avoid running
into him. I’d figured out there were three different ways to get to our house
from his school. Abel grabbed onto my jeans with a worried expression.
“It is okay no need to worry. Big sister just wanted to take a different way
home today is all.”
He loosened his grip but held his arms up. That was his way of saying he was
tired of walking. Picking him up I place a kiss on his forehead. We manage to
get to our house without running into that asshole. Abel ran off to put his bag
up from school. Mumbling under my breath I smack my face.
“Why can’t he just disappear already?”
As if knowing I was speaking ill of him in the distance was Samuel. He just
stood there with a smug smirk. He looked straight into my eyes. Just then
Abel tugged on my pants.
“I’m hungry.”
Giving him a gentle pat to the head I smile.
“Alright let's make you a snack. How about after that you get to go spend
some time with Gabe?”
He looked at me with a worried face once more.
“Don’t worry big sister will be alright.”
Honestly it was a lie. I wasn’t alright but the thought of making him worry
more was killing me. Gabe didn’t argue with me about the decision. He
actually thought it was good to keep Abel away for a while.
