She was going to be a nuisance. He was sure of it. He was also sure he would stay away from such a nuisance. She had such a slender body, and her long dark blue hair fit perfectly with her pale skin. Then there were her brown eyes. They were nothing special about them on anyone, but it seemed to mean so much to him and he knew why. But it didn’t matter to him because he would stay away from trouble. That was all she would bring him.
“I can see that mind of yours is working on something,” Chaddius said as they both walked to the student council room.
Licht was not a member and he always wondered why Chaddius bothered him with such things. Chaddius has asked him to join the council countless times but he saw no benefit to that in his schedule.
“It’s nothing you should worry about,” Licht said hoping Chaddius would get the hint that he didn’t want to talk about it. He didn’t.
“You know you have to be more convincing to me than that now, my good friend,” Chaddius stepped in front of him. They were right by the student council door.
“As my friend, you should also realise when I don’t want to talk about things.” Licht tried to reach for the door before Chaddius stopped him.
“It’s about the Ulypher girl isn’t it?”
“Stop.”
“She’s your mate, isn’t she? I saw how you both reacted to each other, I’m sure the others noticed as well.”
Licht pushed his hand away from the door and walked into the room. Chaddius followed.
“Don’t tell me you have some stupid idea in your head to avoid her because I’m not going to support that.”
Licht turned to look at him from where he sat in the room. The room was dim and Chaddius crossed over the sofa Licht was sitting on to brighten the room. Licht watched him.
“Thank you for being a good friend then.”
“I’m a good friend because I’m advising you from doing something stupid.”
“I can decide to be with my mate or not, Chadd,” Licht stared at him with anger on his face, “It’s the 201st century.”
Chadd stared Licht back from the windows with his eyebrows creased and a frown on his face.
“You know that’s not why you’re being stupid.”
He knew, Licht knew but he didn’t want to talk about it. He didn’t want to bring her into the topic.
Chadd moved his hands through his hair, “For god’s sake, Licht, move on! This is the perfect time!”
Licht had had enough. Chadd sighed.
“Of course, do what you do best,” he said with disdain, “Run away, it’s not like she’s going to leave him to run into your arms.”
Licht had heard what Chadd said and he knew it as well. He knew Beth wouldn’t return to him.
“Is there something in this school that makes people see and feel things they shouldn’t?”
Candy looked over from Lea’s bed at her when she asked that question. They had both settled in their rooms after orientation and had said goodbye to her parents. They were in Lea’s room right now. The entire ‘double room’ consisted of two separate rooms, a living room and a bathroom. A good school, Lea thought.
But now Candy was a bit concerned with her friends’ question. “What? You see ghosts, something else you saw? New powers?”
Lea didn’t look at her. But she replied that she wasn’t sure herself and that she just had a weird experience.
“When?”
Lea cheeks turned pink and this got Candy intrigued. She then began to think what would make her best friend feel rather odd about the school and world she was so enthusiastic to drag her along with. And it hit her.
“The Blue dude.”
“The what?” Lea asked surprised.
“The way you guys were staring at each other was weird, and he seems to be the lonely brooding type so definitely up your alley.”
“Sometimes I hate how much you know me.”
Candy just smiled at her and ate the chips and drank her coke that was on the desk close to the bed. Smacking her lips, Candy decided she would ask the real questions. “So, are you going after him?”
Lea didn’t reply and then she chuckled. “I don’t think he’s interested in me.”
Candy rolled her eyes, “With the way he was looking at you, you were the only thing he was interested in.” She commented and ate more chips.
“I thought so too!” Lea said with her hands up over her and she fell flat on her bed while Candy grumbled over trying to save her chips from being crushed. “But then when I smiled at him, he turned away like he was annoyed.”
“oof,” Candy replied. “That’s a bad sign, babe, bad. He’s the stubborn type too. Takes more work.”
Lea grunted and smashed her pillow on her face. “Why can’t I like cute and gentlemanly boys.”
Candy replied nonchalantly, “Sometimes we don’t choose when we fall in love at first sight.”
Lea took her pillow off her face, “Is that what you think it was? What I felt when I saw him…” Lea sat up, “…it felt like it was only us in the world, nothing else mattered and…I …I liked it.”
Candy looked at Lea while she ate her chips. Oh, boy, Candy thought, this year was already too eventful, but she knew she had to help her friend calm down.
“You have it bad, babe.” She replied to her. Lea pushed her pillow on her friend’s face.
“I’m not crazy.”
“You’re right,” Candy said and stood up, grabbing her chips and reaching for the door. “You’re crazy in loooove.”
Lea sent the pillow flying again but Candy was out of the room missing the attack by a hair’s breadth.
Lea sat there and thought of Licht again. She wanted to feel good about what she felt with him, but his behaviour would only bother her until she talked to him. And she wanted to, she really did because as much as she hated to think about it right now, she wanted to be in his arms.
