Lizzy
Yesterday was a disaster. I was over an hour late for work, and my performance was dropping and unlucky for me, Kerry was noticing. I had to pick up my game if I wanted to keep my job, and now I needed it more than ever. Today I would do better; starting with clearing the debts in my life. A clear mind equals a clear life. Speaking of which, I finally had enough money to pay Sam back for the weed he had given me, and I wasn't wasting any time or risking any future altercations with him. I threw a jacket over my black top, leaving yesterday's ripped jeans on. First stop of the day was Sam’s place.
“Sam,” I knocked on his glass sliding door. I could see him through it. He was watching sports on TV. I reached into my back pocket and pulled out the money I owed as he came to the door.
“Anytime you want a hit, just let me know.” he said, as he took the money from my hand.
“No thanks, I’m done with that.” I said, meaning every word of it.
“For now.” he snickered. “Catch you round, Lizzy.” he says with a smile, and retreats back to his spot on the couch.
Once I had reached the Cafe, I searched the menu, knowing full well that I knew every item on it. Ah, first coffee of the day. “Caramel latte, please.” I said, as I took out my eftpos card.
“No problem, Lizzy. It will be ready shortly.” Aaron says, waving away my card. “employees don’t pay.” he continued.
“But Kerry,” I said, knowing I already wasn’t on her good side, and if I didn’t pay...
“Who cares. If she says anything, it will just come out of my paycheck.” He offers, and I smile at his kind gesture.
“Hey, are you able to work at two?” He looked at me with optimism.
“Yeah, it shouldn't be a problem. I have everything I need here.” I said, glad to get the work. I looked at my watch, 12pm. Since it was already 12, I figured I could hang out until my shift started and talk to Aaron.
Turning around, I scanned the room to find a seat, and to my surprise, spotted Kattie.
“Lizzy!” she said, a grin spreading across her face. Before I had a chance to gather myself, her arms were around my neck. Out of instinct, I wrapped my own arms around her waist.
“Listen,” I started to say, her hazel eyes looking up at me through long lashes. Feeling my knees get weak, I apologize for the day before. “The other day was embarrassing, I am sorry you had to come with me to the doctors.” As I take a breath in, her scent fills my nose.
“You already apologized.” She looks at me blankly. “Besides, I wanted to come, remember?” Her blank stare, turning into a smile.
“Yes, but over text. I wanted to apologize in person.” I express.
She laughs at my response and her smile just makes me melt, like always. “I was hoping I would see you here. What are you up to today?” Her enquiry showed that she was hoping we would get to spend more time together.
“I actually have to work in two hours,” I say, looking down at my phone for an update on the time.
“What are you doing after work?” She pressed.
“Nothing,” I state, feeling slightly embarrassed by my lack of plans.
“Would you like to go for a walk?” She suggests eagerly, and I was equally enthralled by the idea of a walk in the basking sun.
“Where did you have in mind?” I enquired.
“I was thinking we could walk near my place, there are some really nice trails; And then go get a bite to eat.”
As the words left her mouth I was instantly hooked… “It’s a date.” I said, Instantly regretting the words as they came out of my mouth. I did not date. I hooked up with people from time to time, but dating was just not something I ever did.
“What time do you finish?” She interrupted my thoughts.
“I should be done around six.” I replied, looking at Aaron for confirmation, he nods, not so subtly eavesdropping on our conversation.
“Okay, I'll meet you here then.” Kattie flashes me yet another one of her brilliant smiles as she gets up to get her coffee order. Once she has it, she turns to me and solutes, as she leaves.
I often pondered life's strange alignments. Like, how this girl was ever interested in me? She was well above a ten in the looks department, and myself? well, I was obviously pushing a five. I opened my latest book obsession on my phone and read until it was time to start work, often getting lost in the ways of the characters.
WORK WENT FAST, and before I knew it, Kattie was there waiting for me. As soon as I saw her, I couldn’t help but smile from one side of my face to the other. I walked over to her, very aware of what I looked like, which I usually never cared about. I called out to Aaron as I did, “Leaving, Aaron. See you next shift!” He aimed a grin my way and continued cleaning up.
Dinner was better than I could have hoped. We ate, we talked, and we laughed. Her hand slipped into mine multiple times during the night, causing butterflied in the pit of my stomach. “Would you like to come to my house?” She asked, nervously. An emotion I had not seen on her in our short time of knowing one another.
I looked her in the eyes and nodded ever so slightly, a small smile made its way up my cheek, us both knowing what was to come in the moments that our walk led up to.
We walked hand in hand along the street, making occasional eye contact. She smiled at me, giving me a look that I couldn’t quite work out. It felt as though we were in a scene from an old movie. Besides the fact that in old movies they were not dieing inside with nerves, thinking about the prospects of the evening. If they were, you could never tell.
As darkness fell upon us, we stood outside of Kattie’s house. The warm air created a soft haze around us. We didn’t even notice the temperature fall as the night went on. The street lights reflected on her auburn hair. It glistened, reminding me yet again that if anything were to happen, I wouldn’t be able to get past the obvious difference in attractiveness between us. I was suddenly made aware of the cool temperature as a cool breeze made its way through the air. Kattie lit up a cigarette and inhaled, exhaling into the night air.
“Would you like one?” she offered, holding one out to me.
“I have to say, I didn’t have you down as a smoker,” I said, taking the cigarette that she was offering.”
“Is that a problem?” she asked, looking in my direction as a puff of smoke encased her beautiful face. I had looked into her eyes, as I did many times before, yet this time, I saw them differently. Perhaps carefree or wild in nature.
“Not at all,” I breathed, enjoying the inner warmth that the drag was giving me. I couldn’t take my eyes off of her.
“What?” She laughed.
“It’s nothing, you're just so beautiful.” The words slipped out before I could stop them. She stared at me, her expression unreadable. I stared back as she ever so slightly licked her lips, allowing her hand to reach out and touch my hair; her fingers slipped into my curls… She looked at me for a few more seconds as my breathing intensified.
She pulled her lips inches from mine as she asked, “Is it okay if I kiss you?”
No words formed in my mouth, though my head allowed a nod. Her soft lips parted slightly as they landed on mine. Our lips merged, opening and closing in unison. Her tongue danced with mine as my head spun. I reached out, allowing my hand running down her back. She flinched slightly, but eased her body against mine.
She pulled away, only slightly, and breathed, “Do you want to go upstairs?” Her breath was fruity and intoxicating. Again, all I could do was nod, as she turned toward her house, slipping her soft hand in mine. I followed her like someone who had been put under a spell in a fairytale, my legs seemed to carry me, though I couldn’t feel them.
We reached her room. I took it in before making my way to her small bed, which was placed by the window in her equally small room. The room was not large in size, and there was a mirrored cupboard facing the bed. As I sat down on it, I noticed the window that was against it, displaying the clear blue night, the stars blazing brilliantly, showing off the stars in the sky as they shimmered with light.
I looked back at her, noticing that she was already watching me, I couldn’t resist her any more. I laced my fingers through her soft hair and pulled her to me. Her body fit into mine perfectly. Her lips pressed against my own, sending shivers down my spine.
“We need music.” she announced, standing and leaving my head spinning, my breath sounding raspy as I struggled to settle it.
Once the music was selected, she grabbed me again and slid her hand up my white t-shirt, forming a ponytail with my hair as she grabbed it, pulling my head back slightly so that she could place kisses on my neck. Each moment grew more intense. My breath started to catch in my throat, and my head was spinning. I didn’t even know a feeling like that existed. It reminded me of why people, myself included, were so obsessed with sexual desire.
She continued to lift my shirt above my head, revealing my plain black bra. She sucked in a sharp breath as she admired it, tracing her finger between my breasts. She leaned in again, placing another soft kiss on my neck, while her hands slid underneath my arms, unhooking my bra from the back, and slipping the straps over my shoulders. She pulled away, taking me in. “Do you want a hit?” she said, getting up and opening her sliding mirror.
“What?” I ask, still giddy from the moment before.
“Of weed,” she slid the mirror across, revealing a home-made bong in the cupboard. She takes a hit, watching me as she does. And somehow it is the sexiest thing I have ever seen. That is before she begins undressing. She passes me the bong, to which I take a hit as well and watch her slide off her shirt, never breaking eye contact. Her large breasts are held up by her beautifully designed bra. Blue shimmer is weaved through the black material. Multiple black straps make their way around her body. I hold in my breath for fear of gasping if I don't. Instantly I felt myself become turned on at the sight of her.
