Bex could hardly comprehend what was happening. Blurs of color collided in front of her as she watched the two Lyssa's go at it. One Lyssa was a pure untamed animal. She bared her fangs and her nails were like the claws of a lion. Her red eyes seemed to glow with fury so much so that it was easy for Bex to keep track of her as a red blur of light would follow her every movement.
The other Lyssa was agile, always one step ahead of the red-eyed version of herself. She was flexible and fast. Her movements seemed more intelligent, more thought out. Whereas her opponent was just trying to land a blow, going for more direct hits and caring less about style, this Lyssa had some grace to her that seemed to be a perfected art.
They slammed into each other with loud booms. Bex was sure it was only a matter of time before one of her neighbors took notice and came to look outside. She looked around in worry, one hand holding her back, the other rubbing her neck.
"Stop!" Bex shouted.
"Gladly!" The mean Lyssa quickly grabbed the other Lyssa by her shirt collar and slammed her into the ground.
Bex watched as the Lyssa on the ground tried to catch her breath, her hands clasped tightly to the arm holding her down.
"Did you think it was impossible? Did you honestly believe I wouldn't get out!?"
Lyssa sighed and let her head fall back on the ground.
"What is going on!?" Bex screamed to get their attention.
"Oh Rebecca, foolish Rebecca. You are to blame for this. You broke the curse, to think I tried to get this imbecile to kill you." The mean Lyssa laughed.
"What curse?"
"Many, many, oh so many years ago a witch cursed us." The mean Lyssa dropped the other Lyssa and, in a flash, appeared in front of Rebecca.
Bex flinched and jumped back.
"What do you mean? What kind of curse?"
"You never told her, did you?" The mean Lyssa looked to the other Lyssa who was struggling to her feet.
"It never came up." Lyssa hissed.
"Classic me." The mean Lyssa shook her head.
"Rebecca get away from her!" Lyssa ordered.
Bex flinched when the mean Lyssa reached out to her and caressed her cheek.
"To put it simply, there was a girl whose heart we broke. Well, I broke. I thought she was weird and gross, so I only used her to get a free meal and well she was pretty good in bed. But that was all she was good for. Once I got back on my feet I tried to leave her. She was heartbroken and didn't take it lightly. So she cursed me. She wanted me to know what it would feel like to lose a part of myself. Thus our predicament." The mean Lyssa gestured to the other Lyssa who was cautiously approaching them.
"So... She like, literally made you lose a part of yourself? Like, split you in two?"
"Something like that. Once we were split she wanted us to fight each other until one won out. The other would be locked away in another dimension until the curse was broken."
"Tell her how the curse was broken." The other Lyssa demanded.
"No, that part isn't that important, I'd much rather kill her." She grabbed Bex by the throat once more.
Bex yelped and looked to the other Lyssa for help.
"Put her down!" Lyssa ordered.
"As you wish." The mean Lyssa smiled.
She threw Bex at full power towards the house. Bex slammed into the door, knocking it off its hinges and sliding into the house. She had to lay there for a moment to try and catch the breath that had gotten knocked out of her. Her head rang in pain and her whole body was in shock, tiny waves of pain radiating from her back.
When Bex did finally roll over to the floor she laid there for a moment, chaos happening behind her as the two Lyssa's quickly resumed battle. Bex's arms shook as they struggled to lift her up off the floor. Blood dripped from her nose to the ground.
Bex let out a staggered cry in pain, her vision going in and out of focus. If she thought she felt awful before, she certainly felt worse now. Before Bex could fully get up she was once again swept up into Lyssa's grasp.
She yelped in pain and her eyes met red eyes. The mean Lyssa held her close to her body, using Bex as a human shield.
"Leave her alone!" The other Lyssa demanded.
"No, I don't think I will. You are pathetic letting this human run all over you. It sickens me to my core. Humans like her, don't deserve to keep on living. She is scum and you should know that."
"Lyssa help..." Bex struggled in the mean Lyssa's grasp but with every movement, a sharp pain went through her body. She was sure a few ribs were broken at the least.
"Lyssa help me, boohoo. I'll help you, Rebecca." The mean Lyssa laughed before turning Bex around and grabbing her by the throat.
The nicer Lyssa ran in to save her, but she wasn't fast enough as the mean Lyssa zoomed up the stairs and held Bex over the top railing.
"Take a good look at me, Rebecca, this is who I really am." The red-eyed Lyssa sneered.
"No!" Lyssa cried out.
Then Bex was dropped off the side of the railing, falling a good 20 or so feet onto a hall table which broke beneath her. Bex felt her head slam against the tile floor and that was the last thing she felt before everything went black.
"Rebecca!" Lyssa sped over to her and quickly picked her up from the mess.
Lyssa cradled her in her arms and sobbed.
"Pathetic, as usual." Her eviler half appeared behind her.
"We are the same person!" Lyssa shouted at her.
"No! we are not, we are parts of a whole. You are weak and a coward! We are not the same."
Lyssa set Rebecca down and stood up to face her other half.
"We are the same person which means you love her as much as I do."
"Tsk." The other Lyssa crossed her arms.
"You do! Or else the curse wouldn't have been broken."
The red-eyed Lyssa turned away to avoid facing her nicer half. A stone-cold expression on her face.
"The curse can only be broken if someone we love with all of our heart is lost. Not until we feel the pain of losing someone we love, truly love, could this curse have been broken. Which means the curse has been broken for weeks! Why now? Why reveal yourself now when you've had all this time." The green-eyed Lyssa demanded.
The mean Lyssa clenched her jaw and shook her head, her eyes watering.
"You love her," Lyssa said.
"She deserves to die!" The mean Lyssa snapped, her tears close to spilling over.
"I won't let you kill her, and if that means I have to lock you away in that other dimension again, so be it." Lyssa got into a defensive stance.
"You are going to be the one locked away this time, not me!"
The two Lyssa quickly collided into each other and resumed battle.
The red-eyed Lyssa threw the green-eyed one across the kitchen island, knocking everything to the floor before Lyssa slid off and slammed into the fridge. When the red-eyed Lyssa appeared in front of her to finish her off, Lyssa grabbed her and flung her out the kitchen window, shattering it in the process.
The fight quickly led outside. As one Lyssa threw the other into the porch railing, destroying it. Then the other Lyssa threw her other half back inside, slamming her down onto the stairs. One was thrown into the couch, knocking it over. The other slammed into the coffee table, breaking it.
Loud booms and slap sounds echoed off the walls of the house.
Bex struggled to open her eyes, her lids heavy with fatigue. Eventually, she was able to get them open. When she tried to move she cried out in pain.
Both Lyssa stopped fighting to turn to her.
Then they looked back at each other, before once again looking at Rebecca.
Then they raced to her.
The red-eyed Lyssa beat her nicer half there, grabbing Bex off the floor and scooping her into her arms.
Bex cried out in pain.
"Let her go!"
"Give up and I will." The evil one said as she struggled to catch her breath.
"No, you know I can't do that."
"I've done my time, it's only fair that you do yours. I'm not going back in there, not now, not ever! I'll kill her just to break you. Test me."
"You love her too!"
"Shut up!"
The mean Lyssa appeared in front of Lyssa and kicked her hard, sending her flying back and crashing into the Tv stand and breaking the Tv.
Lyssa was beaten to a pulp, she was covered in bruises now and bleeding from her lip and ear. Every part of her wanted to just lay there and rest. It was so hard to get up and keep fighting, what she was she fighting for anyway? Rebecca? The girl made it clear she was done with her.
She didn't want to live forever with her. She didn't want to see her memories. She didn't want to kiss her anymore and be with her anymore. Rebecca didn't want her, and yet she was fighting herself so hard to protect her.
Why?
Lyssa laid in the pile of broken Tv and sighed, just giving up.
"Pathetic." Her red-eyed half glared at her.
Bex sobbed in pain in the evil Lyssa's arm, drawing both Lyssa's attention.
"Now it's your turn." The red-eyed vampire looked down at her.
They zoomed over to the kitchen where Bex was laid on the kitchen island. The red-eyed Lyssa grabbed a knife and walked back over to her.
"I want you to know what it feels like," she raised the knife in the air.
"Wait... Please..." Bex sputtered out.
The evil Lyssa clenched the knife yet she couldn't bring herself to do it. Her hand shook in rage mid-air and her eyes watered.
"You won't hurt me," Bex said.
Lyssa brought the knife down at full force.
"I know you," Bex said.
The caused Lyssa to freeze just at the tip of the knife touched Bex's chest.
"You don't have a clue as to who I really am." Lyssa spat.
"No... I know you."
"Shut up!"
Bex reached out to her and touched Lyssa's cheek.
"I know you Lyssa, all of you. That's why I know you won't do it."
"Lies!" tears spilled out of Lyssa's eyes.
Bex struggled to sit up, but once she did she reached out to Lyssa who flinched when Bex grabbed her face.
"I do, I know you too. I've seen you in the memories. I've felt what you felt. I know you and I know that this anger you project is just your way of hiding all the pain you actually feel. I know who you are, all of you, and I love you all the same. I'm sorry I hurt you," Bex had to pause to catch her breath.
"I know you won't kill me, because you are Lyssa, my Lyssa. And I trust you." Bex finished before collapsing into Lyssa's arms. Trying to catch her breath which was getting shorter and shorter.
The red-eyed Lyssa whimpered and tried to remain composed but the pain she felt in her heart was too much to bear. She dropped the knife and hugged Bex tightly.
"I loathe you, Rebecca. I loathe that I love you so much. You are a fool, all you do is play with my emotions." She said.
"Don't cry Lyssa, it's okay, we'll figure it out," Bex whispered into her before passing out again.
Lyssa set Bex back down on the kitchen island before grabbing her head and screaming out in pain. The Lyssa on the ground disappeared and the two Lyssa's merged back together, as one. Lyssa's eyes rolled back and she collapsed on the ground.
Both Lyssa and Bex were passed out.
The house was silent until the blinds hanging in the kitchen window fell down because the wind blew.
The house was completely destroyed.
And it stayed that way until Nathan's car pulled into the driveway, having arrived home after school.
"What tha hell..." He said as he eyed the flattened bushes, broken patio railing, and missing front door.
"What happened?" Abby asked as her eyes bugged out of her head.
"Rebecca!" Nathan ran inside.
"Holy shit!" Abby said as she eyed the destroyed house.
Broken tables, stuff all over the floor, shattered windows, flipped over furniture, it was all completely destroyed.
"Rebecca!" Nathan called.
"Ugh..." a groan came from the kitchen.
"Rebecca?" Nathan ran over to the sound.
When he got in there Bex slid off the kitchen island and fell to the floor. She had intended to land on her feet but her aching body gave way under her.
"Bex what the hell happened!?" he demanded.
"Mom is going to lose it!" Abby said.
"Call the police," Nathan said as he crouched down to help Bex up.
"No..." Bex muttered.
"No?" her siblings said in unison.
"No police..." Bex gasped for air.
The siblings flinched when they heard shuffling on the ground not to far away, their eyes were drawn to Lyssa who was also just getting up.
"Lyssa?" they said in unison.
"Rebecca, Rebecca are you okay?" Lyssa crawled over to her and took her out of Nathan's arms and into hers.
"Is that a trick question?" Bex forced a smile.
Lyssa sighed in relief, if Bex was smiling then chances are she is going to be okay.
"I'll take you to your room," Lyssa stood up and cradling Bex in her arms.
"How are you holding her like that? You must be like super strong." Abby commented.
"Abby, not helping. What the hell happened here? Is she okay? Are you okay?" Nathan pushed.
Lyssa ignored him and carried Bex up the stairs to her room and laid her down on the bed. The siblings followed her.
"My... ribs..." Bex winced in pain and squeezed Lyssa's arm.
"Sorry, my love." Lyssa readjusted her position so that she was more comfortable.
Bex closed her eyes and quickly went to sleep. Lyssa took a calming breath before turning to leave.
"Hey," Nathan grabbed her by the shoulder. "What happened?"
"Don't touch me," Lyssa growled.
He quickly retracted his hand as he felt threatened.
Abby stepped to the side to allow Lyssa to pass by her. They watched the vampire walked downstairs and then out of the house to leave.
Sure Lyssa was her same usual self, but she was also different.
After all, a part of her that had been missing for many years was finally returned.
She was whole again.
For better,
Or for worse.
